Upon waking I couldn’t move my arms. Looking around I noticed I was back in his bedroom, chained to his bed. Well, that’s not good. I yanked on the chains to see if they had any give, none. Who has a way to chain someone to their bed? You know what? I don’t want to know.
Looking around the room, I noticed that it was mostly in black and mahogany. Very clean and overly tidy. I guess someone has a clean freak problem.
Voices outside pulled my attention to the door.
“So, you’re just going to keep her chained up?”
“If she didn’t try to run, this wouldn’t be an issue. I can’t go chasing after my mate every five minutes and I need to know why she wants this old thing.”
“This isn’t the way to start out a healthy relationship.”
“I’m aware, but it’s the only way to get her to stay in one place for long enough. I’ll deal with the pack business later, Kade.” I could hear the door handle turning and pretended to still be asleep. “Now, none of that. I know you’re awake. We could hear you pulling on the chains out in the hallway.”
I opened my eyes and glared at my rather handsome captor. Grr, scratch that, my annoying pig-headed captor. This mate thing is going to drive me insane. “Why don’t you be a dear and let me out of these.” I asked with my most innocent voice and added a bat of my eyelashes for good measure.
“I don’t think it would be wise for me to willingly put myself in danger like that again.” He moved closer to the bed while saying this, looking me up and down to make sure I had no way to escape. Little did he know, my fire could burn through these chains if I wanted to. I just need to figure out how to get the ring back and make a cleaner exit this time. “I can see you’re trying to work out how to get out of here again. I wouldn’t bother. The entire pack is aware of what you look like, and I’ve doubled the border patrol.”
How can someone be so hot and insufferable at the same time? I asked Vix, while glaring into those crystal blue eyes.
I don’t know, but he is our mate. It’s up to you to seal the deal on this one. Just know I’ll be very angry if you mess it up. I rolled my eyes at her words without thinking.
“And why are you rolling your eyes at me? You’re not getting free with that attitude.” I glared even harder at him. If looks could kill he’d be on his way down the river.
“And why in the world do you think I would give you the pleasure of seeing me annoyed?” Knowing full well this question just answered itself.
“Well, little mate. It appears you have become annoyed enough to talk with me. So, what’s your name?”
Could telling him my name get me in deeper than I already am? I guess not. “Saber.”
“Where are you from?”
“Some mystery is needed in a new relationship, don’t you think?” I batted my eyes at him. May be playing nice and flirting a little would get me out of the chains easily then I could escape.
He grumbled something not loud enough for me to pick up. “Fine. Then what kind of shifter are you? How did you get into my pack house without being noticed?”
“My, my, so many questions, big guy. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were after all my secrets.” I said with a small pout of my lips. “Can’t a girl keep some secrets to herself?”
“Well, if that’s all you’re going to give me…” At that he turned to walkway. All I could see was rippling muscles on his broad back. He didn’t have his shirt on this entire time, and I failed to notice? He turned suddenly, giving me a very nice view of sculpted abbs and pecks to die for. “Unless… you’d like to answer some of my questions?” He wiggled his eyebrows at me, only then did I notice my mouth wide open like a fish as I gaped at him. Dammit!
“Fine, what else do you have for me?” I asked with a rather large sigh, this bed is rather comfortable.
“What does-“ he held up the ring on the chain around his neck, that I failed to notice again. Get your head in the game, Saber! “-this, mean to you?”
“It’s an old trinket from my family.” Not completely a lie. I’m just hoping he doesn’t know the history behind it.
“Oh, your family, you say?” His diamond eyes twinkled dangerously. “So, that would mean that you’re a fox shifter.”
I can’t confirm it. I can’t deny it. So, I just laid there and looked at him with an uncaring look on my face.
“I knew it! I knew there were fox shifters still out there.” He pumped a hand up in the air in triumph. How old is he meant to be again? 25? 26? I guess that explains it. “Where are the rest of you?”
I glared at him. “Over my dead body will I ever tell you that!” He glared back. Apparently, I lost the flirting thing I was going for. Quickly melting the chains, I snapped them off at the ends far away from me. Leaving the cuffs and quiet a bit of chain to use as a weapon. Springing up, I went to smack him with the chain, but he saw it coming. Even with the shock written all over his face, he grabbed the chain and pulled me to him. “So, it’s true.” He mumbled. His lips were centimeters from my face. I could feel his hot breath. Looking down at his full lips, I wanted so much to kiss them and claim them as my own. But knowing better, the Skulk depended on me, I went to headbutt him. He yanked me back by the chain and spun me around so that my body was pushed against his lean chest. “I can’t let you leave then.”
“What does tha-“ I didn’t manage to complete the sentence, for the next second his canines were buried in my neck, marking me as his territory and forever claiming me. The world started to fade out. But I heard a muffled sound, a voice saying, “I’m so sorry, I can’t lose you too.”
I looked down at her. Now sleeping like an angel in human form. Her almost bleach white hair spread around her like a halo. With a heart shaped face, but not a fat one like the ones you get and give on the human Valentines Day, a rather fitting one for her face. Her hazel eyes had staired at me with so much contempt. Her solid smooth nose led to a slight point with full, red lips underneath. It looked like she had been traveling for a while with baggy clothes, loose around her rather toned body.I sighed. Well, this wasn’t the plan, but I’m happy to have her. I’m happy we found her. Grumbled my wolf, Dezz. This isn’t how I imagined it, Dezz. A little help with what to do next?Human, it’s all up to you. I’m not getting involved, but if you lose her, I’ll eat every dead animal I come across till the end of time. Thanks. I mumbled back sarcastically. He gave a mental flip of his tail and curled up in the back of my mind. Now, what am I going to do with her? Normal female wolves marked
My body felt heavy, I tried to wiggle my toes and failed. What is going on? Slowly the feeling in my feet, then my legs started to come back. And I felt worried? Why would I be worried? What happened? Wait, this isn’t my worry. With that a flood of memories came back to me and I sat up ramrod straight in his bed. Looking around his room, I noticed him asleep in an arm chair that wasn’t in the room before. When did he move that in here? I was probably only out for a few minutes.I moved to get up off of the bed seeing the bathroom to the left of the bed. I felt stiff all over. Looking over at the man sleeping on the chair, a pair of ice blue eyes where looking back at me.“I hope you weren’t planning on trying to run again. The last three days and the bond setting will have weakened you.” I looked at him with my mouth open like a fish. Three. Days?!“What do you mean three days? There’s no way. And I never consented to you marking me. Isn’t it a rule for y’all too that you ask permissi
I had taken an intentionally long shower in the hopes that the weirdness from before would be gone by the time I was out. Looking around the bathroom, I realized I forgot clothes. Sticking my head out the door, he was gone. Slowly I walked out into the bedroom. He could return at any time, I better get dressed quickly. Going into his closet, I found his clothes hung up in perfect color order. All the seams of the pants and sweatpants were on display. Again, I wondered at the neat freak nature he has about him. Grabbing a pair of sweatpants down with a string, I pulled them up to my waist and tied it off. To say they swallowed me, would be the understatement of the year. I had to roll up the pant bottoms to even be able to walk. Looking at the shirts, I found one with the band The Pretty Reckless on it. I love that band. I pulled it on over my head. It looked more like a dress than a shirt on me. Whatever, this will have to do.For a while I sat on the bed and waited for him to return.
Stomping up the steps to the pack house, I could hear someone catching up to me. Turning around I started to speak without looking at the person. “Look, Kade. I’m just going to go up to the third floor and find a room. Please, if you must follow me, give me at least a little space.” Looking up, it wasn’t Kade I was speaking to but Aziel.“What’s wrong with my room?” He questioned me with a puzzled look.“I thought you would be entertaining later and I’d rather not be involved.” I glared at him. Crap. I didn’t think I would still be this mad about the blonde touching him.“What’s that suppose to mean?” He wasn’t getting it or did he want me to spell it out for him. Glaring at him from the top step of the porch, I didn’t know what answer was correct. Fine, if he wants to play games, let’s play.“That beautiful blonde you were speaking to at the practice field. I thought maybe you would want to ask her out on a date.” I said while acting as innocent as possible.“Oh, that really did both
I watched him moved around the kitchen. For someone his size, he moved with the ease of a dancer. His shirt clung to him like a second skin. Hearing a beeping, he pulled his phone from his pocket to check the text message he had received. “What size clothes do you wear?”“Why? I don’t plan on staying here long enough to need new clothes.” I grabbed the knife from him and started dicing the onions he was working on before the text.“If you want to wear my baggy clothes, I don’t mind, but I thought you would like something more your size and comfortable.” There was a smile in his voice, and I could hear the hidden laughter. I guess I did look like I was wearing a circus tent.“Medium top, 34 b bra, medium underwear, and size 8 or medium pants.” I continued to dice the onions. They were starting to make my eyes water. I don’t understand how a plant can reduce me to a mess of tears. Tearing up, I walked to the sink and turned on the water. I felt a warm, strong chest come up behind me. Le
We went out the back door this time. The forest was located about 100 yards away. We walked towards it without talking. When we got to the edge, he turned and looked at me. “Now no trying to run off. I have scouts out in the forest and I don’t think you would be able to get away again with that mark on your neck.” Oh, yeah. My personal homing beacon. I don’t know how I’m going to manage to escape and stay gone with this thing on my neck.“Understood.” Looking towards the trail in front of us, I started to stretch. Feeling eyes on me I looked between my legs while touching the ground. He was looking at my butt. “Do you mind?”Startled, he looked away. “Are you ready to go? I figured we would follow this trail; it loops back around and comes out at the front of the house.”“Sure, let’s get to running.” I took off on the trail and soon heard him following me. Slowly he caught up and we were running next to each other. For about a mile, we ran without talking. After the next rise there wa
We had spent the rest of the day not talking. He told me about his library and I buried my head in a book till he reminded me about the date.Standing in front of the mirror, I stared at my reflection and ran my hands down the dress one more time. No make-up. And a too tight dress. What was I meant to wear on my feet? Finally, I turned and walked out of the bathroom. No one was in the room but there were two shoe boxes sitting on the bed. Reaching for the first one, I found a pair of rather tall black heels. That’s a solid nope unless he really wanted to see me fall on my face. Turning my attention to the second box, I found a pair of ballet flats in black with rhinestones in the shape of a butterfly on them. They were beautiful. Pulling them on, they fit my feet like a glove.Looking around, I gave myself a minute to find my strength to go on with this. I walked out the door and found Aziel standing at the front of the stairs. He had on a button down top, in red to match my dress. So
Aziel had been avoiding me for a week. The night after our date, I heard him stop at the door to the room I chose to sleep in but, soon after he walked away. Kade and I had been spending a ton of time together. It appeared that my guards had become more lax with the news of Liv’s pregnancy spreading around the pack. Kade shielded me from it but the guards we passed, or the pack members who came to the pack house, were all about it. The pack members talked about how quiet their Alpha was being, wondering when they would have the interloper out of their midst. I agreed with them. What was the reason for me staying here if I had been replaced? And while it shouldn’t hurt, it made my heart ache to hear anyone speaking of it.Kade and I were out in the forest again going for a run when we bumped into a very excited Liv. She was practically glowing.“Oh, Beta Kade, wonderful news! They’ll be able to do my first scan today! I was just on my way to tell the Alpha.” She beamed with the news an
