Chapter 2

作者: Peach Iced Tea
After the SATs were over, Camden happily hugged Mom and coyly said, "I feel so good because Clay didn't take his exams this time, Mom. Maybe I might even be able to score full marks and be named the national top scorer."

Mom ruffled his hair affectionately and said, "Of course. After all, you're the best, Cam. Clay can't win against you. Go ahead and tell me what you want for your present."

Camden tilted his head to the side before suddenly looking at me. "You're giving me a present even though I did so well on the exams? Why don't you give Clay a present instead to comfort him in advance?"

Camden was always like that. Although it looked like he was speaking up for my sake, in reality, every word that he said was to trample me under his feet.

Cassandra pulled out her phone with a smile and said, "I have to reward you for being so thoughtful of Clay's feelings even though you did so well on the exams, Cam. Although you didn't sit for your exams, Clay, Cam still wants to give you a present. That's why I'm going to give both of you a present, alright?"

Both Camden's and my phones chimed seconds after the words left her lips.

"1,600 dollars?" Camden exclaimed. "You're so good to me, Cass! I love you so much!"

He then hugged Cassandra and planted a kiss on her cheek. "You should check your phone too, Clay! How much money did Cass give you?"

I wasn't even able to lift a finger before Rebecca snatched my phone out of my hand and tapped on the transaction notification.

One cent.

"You're being a little too biased, Cass," Camden said, shooting a faux-stern look at Cassandra. "Why did you give Clay so little money?"

Cassandra spread her arms and said, "You misunderstand me, Cam. I'm a very fair person. I gave you 1,600 dollars because you scored full marks for your SAT. Clay didn't even take the exams. I'm being nice to him for even giving him a single cent."

"Well, that does make sense when you put it that way," Camden said with a nod. "You can't blame Cass for only giving you one cent, Clay. It's not her fault that your stomach acted up during the exam."

I quietly retrieved my phone from Rebecca. I then rose to my feet and turned around, preparing to leave.

After all, they were only planning to celebrate Camden's achievements regardless of whether I was present or absent.

"Clay, don't tell me you're upset because I did well in the exams?"

I didn't even manage to get a word in before Mom and the others immediately shot warning looks at me as if they were terrified that I would make Camden unhappy in the next second.

"No," I answered. "I'm just going to my room to get my present for you."

I returned to my room and immediately spotted my most precious treasures on my desk.

It was Holwille University's badge. Rebecca had given it to me, telling me that she would wait for me to join her at Holwille.

Cassandra had given me the brass fountain pen, telling me that I would certainly achieve success in my studies.

Mom asked the church to bless the study charm, telling me that I would definitely pass my exams with flying colors.

However, I didn't want any of these items anymore. Just like how I didn't want the people who gave them to me anymore.

I grabbed them before heading back to the living room, saying, "These are for you, Cam."

Mom's face twisted when she realized what I was holding.

"Didn't I give you that study charm, Clay?" she asked.

I smiled as I looked at her, saying, "That's right, Mom. I don't have much money, so I couldn't afford to buy something new for Cam. So, I had no choice but to give away my most precious treasures to him."

Mom was briefly stunned before she said, "But I told Cass to give you some allowance."

"I spent all of the money to comfort Cam when he was feeling out of sorts," Cassandra explained, scratching her head awkwardly. "Besides, Clay doesn't need to spend money anyway. We can just treat it as him doing his part to make Cam feel better."

I couldn't help but feel how ironic her words were at that moment.

Camden could get everything that he wanted because his results weren't good and he was feeling out of sorts. Meanwhile, I couldn't even afford to buy a few mock test papers.

I had to work to earn money for myself. But they had no idea that I returned home late every night due to my part-time job because they were busy comforting Camden whenever I came home.

I had a gut feeling that I didn't matter to them at all in their hearts.

Since Camden was so important to them, and they trusted him with all their hearts, I didn't mind giving them a grand present.

"Didn't Cam ask you to give me a present to comfort me, Mom?" I asked. "I don't need any comfort. I just want you to give him a new present on my behalf, Mom."

A relieved smile broke across Mom's face when she realized that I was being mature.

"What do you want to give him?" she asked. "You can count on me to fulfill your wish."

"Why don't we host a celebratory banquet for Cam? Let's invite everyone we know and celebrate together!"

It was bright and sunny the day I arrived at Galewin University. Sunlight streamed through the gaps between the clouds, making the campus' cobblestone path glitter like shattered gold.I pulled my suitcase behind me and stood at the college entrance. I tilted my head back to look at the sky. It was very blue, and it was very clear. My phone was constantly vibrating in my pocket during my journey to Galewin University. Mom, Cassandra, and Rebecca were the ones who were calling me. Camden also called me a few times.I ignored all their calls. My phone stopped vibrating as much on the third day.It fell completely silent on the 15th day.…Galewin University gave me plenty of money for my scholarship. In fact, I had enough money to cover all my school fees and living expenses.I didn't have to work in a bar anymore. I didn't have to put on a uniform and promote the alcohol that was on sale to the patrons of the bar. I didn't have to stand at the door of the private room and count

"Clay!" Mom shouted. "Please listen to me… I know I was in the wrong now. I've learned my lesson. Please don't abandon me, Clay."She reached out and tried to grab my sleeve, but I swatted her fingers away."Did you ever stop to think about me when you turned off my alarm, Mom?" I asked.Cassandra lunged at me and pulled me into a hug. "It's all my fault, Clay! I was the one who played favorites with Cam. I was a fool and let him pull the wool over my eyes for eight years. "Don't go. I'll buy a house for you in your favorite area. You can enroll in any college you want. I'll handle the money—""That's enough," I said, batting her hands away. "In the past few years, you always told me that you would take care of me if I didn't do well on my tests. But you used all my allowance to make Cam happy instead."I had to work a part-time job just to earn enough money to buy mock test papers. You kept claiming that you were going to take care of me, but did you ever do that?"Cassandra's

"You faked your illness, Cam?" Mom asked."No!" Camden shouted, shaking his head wildly. "Clay's slandering me, Mom!"He rushed to her side and grabbed her hand before continuing, "That recording was made with AI! Clay forged it because he hates me! You have to believe me, Mom.""Let's verify its validity right now," I said. "Let's find a proper hospital so you can take a psychology or psychiatry test. It doesn't matter which hospital. I'll repeat the year with you if it's proven that you're ill.""I won't go," Camden frantically answered.Cassandra frowned. "Why not? Clay will repeat the year with you once you prove that you're ill."Rebecca looked at Camden and said, "Cam… Don't tell me you don't want to take the tests because…"She paused for a moment before continuing, "Did you make everything up?"Camden's mouth fell open as he swept his gaze across Mom's deathly pale face, Cassandra's tense jaw, and Rebecca's hesitant eyes.Someone in the crowd scoffed and said, "There's

"I won't," I said without any hesitation."What did you say?" Mom asked. "Say that again?""I said that I won't," I said."You… Are you just going to stand by and watch Cam die?" Mom asked, looking at me with bloodshot eyes. "Where's your conscience, Clayton Silva? Cam already wants to jump off the building, but you're saying you won't repeat the year with him. Do you want to send him to his death?"Rebecca approached me and held my hand."Stop being difficult, Clay," she said softly. "You even insisted that you weren't going to go to Holwille University. I know you think we played favorites with Cam. I understand why that would upset you. But I also know that you have a kind heart. Repeat the year with Cam, okay?""I said that I won't," I repeated, retracting my hand."Does this family have loose screws in their heads or something?" someone in the crowd mumbled. "Clayton's results are so good. He even won the Oliviad Math Tournament, but he showed up to the banquet in a waite

Mom pointed at the screen that was still showing that I had scored zero points for my SAT."Clayton got zero points! Why would you invite him to join your college? If he got accepted into college even though he submitted blank answer sheets, why wouldn't Camden qualify for a spot then?"The admission directors were rendered speechless by Mom's words. They finally understood what was going on at that moment.Camden was Mom's precious treasure while I meant nothing to her.A displeased look crossed their faces before they said, "Our presidents told us that we're here to invite Mr. Clayton Silva to join our colleges. Is he here? We're looking for him."The corners of my lips curled up into a smile before I stepped forward from my corner."I'm Clayton Silva," I said, approaching the admission directors. The admission directors immediately fixed on a smile when they saw me. They then hurried toward me to greet me.The director of admissions of Holwille University managed to grasp my

The guests couldn't help but discuss among themselves upon seeing the results on the screen."Zero points?""Is this a joke?""Didn't they say Camden was the top scorer just now?"Mom stared at the screen. Her voice was shaking when she stammered, "T-That's impossible. Why did Cam get zero points too?"Cassandra also began to panic. "Y-You're right! There's no way both of them got zero points. Maybe there's something wrong with the system. The admission directors are already here. They must have come all the way here for the top scorer! "Don't worry, Cam. There must be something wrong with the score. There's no way that you got zero points," she said while holding Camden's hand, patting it lightly to comfort him.I leaned against the wall in the corner and quietly watched everything unfold. The corners of my lips curled up into a smile.Mom and the others had no idea that I activated a system on the day that Camden was diagnosed with Sibling Rivalry Disorder. The system allowe
