Chapter 246

Auteur: Gathered Light
"So, you'll have to sleep early tonight. We're leaving early tomorrow morning," Jacklyn said as she ruffled Theodore's hair.

That was when Jacklyn realized that Liam had already left without her noticing. She glanced down at her phone and saw a message from him, telling her that something had come up and he'd had to leave.

The next morning, Jacklyn and Theodore grabbed their things and had just reached the elevators when a reporter called.

The gist of it was that they wanted to interview her because she had won the Golden Cup Design Competition. But because they were in Swanford, Jacklyn didn't want to be in the limelight, so she declined immediately.

However, after she hung up the call and got out of the elevator, a swarm of reporters, who had been lying in wait, suddenly rushed over to them.

"Ms. Anna, just a few questions. How do you feel about winning the competition? And we heard that you flew back here from overseas. Will you be staying in the country?"

Jacklyn was so s

Lydia glanced at Theodore nearby, then tugged Lucy's hand. "That boy's mother is awful, and he's clearly no better. You need to listen to me—good kids don't mix with bad ones."Lucy yanked her hand free and darted to Theodore's side, eyeing Lydia with distrust. "Theo's a good person. I don't even know you, and you're not my grandma. I'm not going anywhere with you."Lydia lost her composure. Her words tumbled out, sharp and breathless, "Why do you have to be so difficult? If I say I'm your grandma, then I am. The only reason you weren't raised as a Lloyd is because your mom switched you at birth."Lucy didn't fully understand what Lydia was saying. Her eyes were clouded with confusion as she stared at her, latching onto the one thing she did know."You're not my grandma," she repeated over and over.Lydia, growing furious at her refusal to listen, seized Lucy's wrist roughly. "You're a Lloyd. That means you do as I say! I won't let a Lloyd child be raised outside this family. You'

As Lydia spoke, her gaze drifted toward Lucy, who stood quietly at Romy's side. Lucy stared back with wide, curious eyes, entirely unfazed by the presence of a stranger."At least she isn't shy," Lydia thought.Romy stiffened immediately, instinctively placing a protective arm in front of Lucy."What are you trying to pull?" she snapped."I'm taking Lucy back to the Lloyds," Lydia said.Romy looked down at the clueless child, her chest tightening. As much as it hurt, Lucy's biological mother was with the Lloyds, and they had every legal right to take her back."Fine, but then I get Noah."Lydia's expression hardened. "That's not going to happen. Both children belong to the Lloyds. But don't worry. While we'll never accept you as one of us, you'll be allowed to visit."Jacklyn stepped out from behind Romy just in time to catch Lydia's words. She let out a sharp click of her tongue, unable to hold back a cutting remark. "The Lloyds really are unbelievable. You always expect every

Eugene's face tightened, but he set his jaw and said firmly, "Maybe Jackie isn't thinking about me right now, but I can win her back, little by little. She and I have been through so much, Liam."No one knows her like I do. If I don't give up, she'll come back to me.""Is that so? Then, be my guest," Liam responded flatly. With that, he turned and walked off, leaving Eugene standing alone.…During a break in filming, Penelope had just returned to Lloyd Manor and settled into her seat when Lydia stormed in like a hurricane. She marched straight up to Penelope, eyes bloodshot and blazing with fury, as if Penelope were the enemy."How dare you! You've been lying to us about Noah this whole time? We've been too easy on you, Penelope. That's why you think you can get away with something like this!"Lydia rolled up her sleeves, tossing aside every ounce of aristocratic restraint. This wasn't just about a lie. It was about the Lloyd family's bloodline. If Penelope had the gall to sw

"This is all your fault! I would've won if you hadn't slammed into me!" Noah snapped.Lucy got up, brushing dirt off her clothes, and shoved him hard. "It was an accident, and I'll apologize, but that doesn't give you the right to push me."Penelope saw Noah get shoved and rushed over, panic rising in her chest. She stepped in front of him and glared at Lucy, her eyes blazing. "How dare you put your hands on him? You're such a rude little brat!"Lucy lowered her head as Penelope scolded her, lips pressed tight in stubborn silence.Romy's heart ached at the sight. She stepped in front of Lucy to shield her. "How can you talk to her like that? You know perfectly well she's your…"She stopped herself, unwilling to drag adult issues into a moment between kids. Lucy might not have been her biological daughter, but that didn't make her any less innocent.Penelope shot her a venomous glare. "What are you going to say? If she weren't a girl, we wouldn't be dealing with all this drama in

Eugene stumbled away, a chill washing over him like he'd been dropped into a frozen wasteland. He couldn't bring himself to face the truth. But whatever it was, it wasn't Jacklyn's problem.Jacklyn turned from the closed door to Liam. "What are you doing here today? Don't you have to be at the hospital?"Lara had been admitted a while back. Even with everything going on with Romy, Jacklyn had noticed that Liam hadn't visited in days.He shook his head. "I'm not going back. Not unless—"He trailed off, the words catching in his throat."Unless what?" Jacklyn asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes."Unless I marry Cecily."…Meanwhile, in the VIP hospital room, Cecily peeled an orange and held a slice to Lara's lips. "Feeling any better today?" she asked softly.Lara sighed and patted her chest. "This sickness isn't going anywhere until Liam marries you. God knows what's gotten into him. He's obsessed with Jacklyn. He doesn't even care about me anymore."Just look how many days

Eugene's eyes lit up with sudden clarity. If Anna were actually Jacklyn, then every hurdle in Lloyd Group's partnership talks could vanish in an instant. He froze mid-step before turning to face her, his eyes blazing. "Jackie, it's been years. Let's leave the past where it belongs. Come back to Lloyd Manor."Jacklyn stared at him, stunned by his nerve. Even now, he wouldn't quit."Are you out of your mind? We're done. Leave now, or I'll have security drag you out."But Eugene stood his ground. He couldn't let her go. He'd lived through the heartbreak of losing her once. He wasn't sure he could survive it a second time."I'm not leaving, Jackie. I know I messed up before. But if you come back to Lloyd Manor, I'll give you everything, even Lloyd Group."Jacklyn scoffed. "Thanks, but I'll pass."Eugene's expression darkened. He stepped forward, hand reaching toward her, just as the door swung open again.Theodore, nestled in Liam's arms, glanced between them, blinking. "Mommy, wha
