MasukLance was so angry that he didn’t even sleep in the house, but Cassandra was grateful his father wasn’t paying much attention to him.
“That witch,” Mercedes snarled. “I am sure she seduced him, that’s why.”
“I told you, Daddy,” Lena added. “They had been too close, and little he would be influenced by her.”
Cassandra could hear their voices from the kitchen as she did the dishes, a small smile hung from her lips, she was secretly grateful for the small chaos in the house.
“Rest assured now, child.” Niko’s voice was a little faint. “She will be married soon, and Lance will adjust to that.”
“He isn’t picking up the phone,” Mercedes complained her voice a little shaky. “What if he does something stupid?”
“Well, I hope he does,” Cassandra said in a while whisper as she ran the faucet again.
Lance didn’t come home through the night, his mother had been worried, but he didn’t come home neither did he answer any of their calls, even in the morning, he didn’t come home.
“That boy…” Mercedes muttered as she glared at Cassandra who dished their breakfast. “He isn’t picking up any of our calls.”
“I am worried about him too, this is the first time he has acted like this,” Lena grumbled, dragging her spoon lazily to her mouth, as she glared at Cassandra who brought in their jug of milk. “All because of that witch.”
“Cassandra, have you tried calling Lance?” Niko suggested. “Since he isn’t picking up our calls, he might answer yours.”
“N-No,” she stuttered, and in anger, Mercedes rose from her chair and in anger slapped the girl across the face.
“How selfish…” She ranted, the emotions raw in her voice, Niko got up in an instant and he pulled her away quickly. “He is protesting because he doesn’t want you to be married to some crazy man, and here you are being so nonchalant about it. It’s almost as if you don’t care.”
“Calm down,” Niko said holding his wife tightly, his eyes shooting towards Cassandra who stood rigidly her hands clumping against her cheeks. “You shouldn’t have slapped her, I told you the McKnights are coming for dinner, what explanation would I give if they saw her like this?”
“Don’t act like it’s a big deal, you’ll be fine after you put some ice,” Lena grimaced. “I think you should call Lance as well, he would answer the calls if they were from you.”
“I will call him.” Cassandra whispered as she climbed the stairs to her room, she checked her face in the mirror, her cheeks stung.
She bit her bottom lips nervously, she didn’t want to call him, but her aunt would hit her again if she didn’t.
Reluctantly, she picked up the phone and dialed his number, it rang a few times before he answered, and her heart pounded in her chest when she heard his voice that was husky with sleep.
“Cassie…” He moaned.
“L-Lance,” she stuttered, suddenly the words were stolen from her mouth, “Your family… they are worried about you.”
There was a deafening silence at the other end of the line, she glanced at the phone wondering if he had dropped the line, but he was still connected.
“Y-You are not answering your calls.”
“Is that the only reason you are calling?” He wondered, even though she wasn’t seeing him physically, the fear was the same. “Here I was happy thinking that you missed me.”
Cassandra fell silent.
“Cassie…” He purred again. “Tell me the truth.”
She shuddered, suddenly falling to the bed because her legs felt weak.
“Did father force you to do this? Because it seems like that’s what you want.” He concluded, Cassandra was at a loss for words. “Are you trying to avoid me? You claim to love me, yet you’re not doing anything to fight for our love.”
“I-I can’t make the decision,” she stuttered,
“You can.” He affirmed. “If you don’t want to get married to that mental man, then all you have to do is tell me.”
“What?”
“We can run away together.”
Her eyes widened, he was suggesting that they eloped together, she disconnected the phone abruptly, turning it off, if he complained she would tell him that her battery suddenly died.
Her heart pounded in her chest, as she stood up and went downstairs.
“Did you call him?” Mercedes asked again, she stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
“Yes, but he didn’t answer.” She lied.
“What is wrong with that boy?” Mercedes cursed under her breath, even though Lance was a grown man, Mercedes babied him a lot, she shot a glare in Cassandra’s direction noticing the red patch on her cheeks. “Put some ice on your cheeks.”
Cassandra nodded her head, hopefully, they could bring the wedding as soon as this weekend, she couldn’t wait to leave their goddamned house.
Even if Blake had a mental illness, she would do her best to live with him, and with the right care, he would get better.
She would make sure of that.
Cassandra stepped back out of both fear of being caught and surprise, and Blake’s eyes narrowed noticing the way her body shook but he remained waiting for her response. “Cassandra?” He called, and she felt herself shake.“It was an accident.” She lied, trying to control the tremor in her voice, but seems like Blake picked it up. “I didn’t look where I was going, and I bumped into something, I didn’t even know it would scar.” She covered it quickly with her hands, and Blake’s eyes narrowed in confusion, it didn’t look like a scar from a bump, it looked like someone grabbed her, and probably struck her there. His eyes narrowed, there seemed to be something wrong with her.“Okay.” He simply said as he stepped back noticing how uncomfortable she is. “I should leave for you to change.” He leaves the room, this isn’t the first time he felt something suspicious right after she comes back from seeing Lance, there is something about them that makes him uncomfortable, like their relationshi
“That is impossible.” Cassandra got up in an instant her heart pounding in her chest, it felt as though she was punched in the face by the cruel words that left Lance lips; there was hardly anything he wanted that he never got. The golden child of her uncle’s family, and that is why he is so entitled to having everything, but this time around, she doesn’t think she could ever unhand the ray of hope she now has. Blake has made life worth living, and even she could dare to say, he made life easier to live. How could she divorce him?“What makes it so?” He pressed his lips together, his other hand stroking his chin. “Cassie. What did I say about refusing me?” “Lance, I can’t divorce my husband.” She put it to him, in a more confident tone. “We are married, and your parents won’t ever allow us be together; moreover, this is wrong, we have to stop.” He paused for a while, his icy blue eyes focused on her trembling body, and then he let out a mocking laughter, Cassandra flinched slightly
“You seem sad,” Blake noticed; his cold voice breaking the silence as he reached for the mayonnaise on the table, for some reason that was his favorite bed spread, and he enjoyed it, even though most people called him weird for it. Cassandra’s eyes snapped towards him in shock, she had completely zoned out. “Is anything the problem?” He noticed from the way she spooned her food without taking any bite in particular, it was unnerving, watching her lost in thoughts over breakfast. “Grace told me your uncle came here, while i was away.” He reminded and and she swallowed down a huge lump in her throat. “Is anything the problem?” “Um… no.” She started, the words hung in her lips, she was dying to tell him what had truly transpired, she knew if she told him her uncle was trying to force her to give out her rights to her father’s company; he would help her. But at the same time, she risk losing everything; her uncle might decide to tell Blake the truth, and she would lose all hope, and
“Do you think I don’t know what’s going on with you and Lance?” He suddenly deadpanned, and Cassandra’s eyes widened in shock, and her eyes worriedly darted towards Grace standing in the distance… She wondered if Grace could hear their discussion, and then shook her head, nearing her uncle she grabbed him. “Don’t talk so loudly,” She snapped as she grabbed his shoulder dragging him to the farthest corner of the room, away from the ears of the maid. “So, it is true,” Uncle Nico had expected her to deny it, but knowing Cassandra, she wasn’t the type of person to lie. “I took you in, took care of you, provided for you, and this is how you pay me back. Sleeping with my son, aren’t you shameless?”“I am not sleeping with your son because I want to,” since her uncle was the one bringing it up, maybe if she confesses to him, he can do something about it. Like making sure Lance stars clear of her. “He threatens me, he hits me, I can’t refuse him.”“You know what you are accusing my
“Where is Blake?” Cassandra asked curiously as she climbed down the stairs, her hair was held in a messy bun, and her eyes swollen. After that heart felt discussion with Blake, she had fallen asleep in his arms, a little too exhausted from crying all night. But the small sleep she had helped to alleviate her mood, and when she woke up, she didn’t find her husband beside her. She rubbed her bleary eyes, as she watched Grace curiously. “He went out now,” she muttered with a small smile. “Do you want anything? Should I make you coffee?”“Did he tell you where he is going to?” she asked curiously and Grace shook her head, a little sigh escaped Cassandra as she went to sit on the sofa. “Should I bring you the coffee?” she asked and Cassandra nodded. Grace dashed towards the kitchen and then came back almost immediately with a small smile on her face and a cup of hot coffee. “Thank you,” she muttered as she received the cup from Grace.“Blake said you might not be feeling well
“That ungrateful brat,” Nico yelled as he slammed his fist on the table. “I got her married to Blake and now she thinks she rules the world?”“That’s why I told you we should give that kind of man to Lena,” Mercedes snapped equally angry for the embarrassment, “She didn’t even do anything to defend us, I bet she poisoned his mind against.”“I just hope this doesn’t affect the relationship between his grandfather and me.” Nico reached for his neck tie and pulled it off. “Who knows what that bitch has told him about us? That’s why I always told you to be gentle with her.”“Gentle?” she snapped feeling attacked. “You never had a problem with how I had treated her in the past. Why are you complaining all of a sudden?”“I can’t always get involved in the relations between the ladies of the house.” He muttered with a tight frown on his face. “But if she was your daughter you won’t he doing that.”“Will you both stop fighting?” Lena suddenly snapped, commanding silence from both her parents
