Alruin

Something was wrong.

I could see the confusion on Marla's face when an informant came into the coven later that morning. Malric was supposed to have returned by now, with Chase by his side of course. I stared at Marla with intent, my eyes already demanding answers to the questions in my head even before I could voice it out. Her eyes were grim as she stared at me.

"What happened? Where is Malric?"

She scoffed in disbelief and said, "He turned around."

I squinted at her, utterly baffled, "Sorry? He just turned around and left? Where to? Why?"

"I don't know. None of the spies I sent to watch over him could get close enough to listen to their conversations," she replied, "but something happened earlier. They stopped watching when he got closer to our borders, already concluding that he would be here anyway, but after about thirty minutes of waiting, there was no sign of him."

I bolted to my feet, my eyes blazing with anger as disappointment was written all over my face

AlruinI mounted my horse a few minutes later, making up my mind never to return to the coven again. What else did she have to teach me that I hadn't learnt yet? Besides, none of it was practical. The last time I had truly used my powers had been weeks ago and I had nearly killed one of the damn witches. I sighed and grabbed the reins firmly. Surely, I wouldn't be missed here either. When I found Malric, I was sure he and I would be able to figure everything out, whether we had Marla's help or not. I heard the loud neigh of a horse, followed by heavy galloping behind me. I turned around and frowned when I saw a man riding towards me. When the dust cleared and his face came into view, I looked away with a frown. He came up right beside me, pulling his horse to a halt. "What are you doing here, Cain? Does word travel so fast around here?"He nodded, "As a matter of fact, yes. I heard you were leaving the moment your conversation with Marla was over, and it wasn't Marla's mouth I had

MalricWe had been travelling all night and by the time we caught the first glimpse of the sun, all three of them had released exasperated groans and yawns. This was why I didn't want any company on this journey, I would have been able to fend for myself just fine.Chase squinted at him as we got closer to the coven, "Are you a werewolf, Garrick? They do not really take kindly to werewolves. You know, the whole war and all." Garrick glanced at me before replying, "Yes, I am, but I do not shift unless on a full moon night. I do better with a sword most times so I learn not to depend too much on my wolf." He glanced at the new member of this little, unfortunate team of mine, whom everyone still considered as our prisoner. "You any good with a sword?""Kind of," he replied dryly and coughed. He had drowned his face in the river when we had finally let go of him and Garrick had to pull him away so we could leave.Garrick stared at me solemnly, "He kind of knows how to use a sword, Alpha

AlruinI could feel the presence of someone else in the room.My eyes suddenly tore open, my wolf was unsettled and the air was suddenly bleak and eerie. I sat up and saw her standing at the door to my bedroom, a stern, hateful look in her eyes. I heaved a sigh of relief, and wiped the beads of sweat off my forehead. Where had she suddenly turned up from? "How long have you been standing there?" I asked, frustrated that her silent presence had woken me up. I had barely gotten any sleep since I returned, having to spend so much time with Marla in the coven."You know he almost killed her before he left," she said, "Malric. He had his hand around her neck, ready to strangle her to death and it was all your fault. He also left because of you, you chose to be selfish and not return, meanwhile he kept his own word, like the man he is."I sighed and ran my fingers through her hair. Was this what she really came here to do? Gloat and rub Malric's absence in my face? Nyari was unbelievabl

Malric"You think they will just let us in?"I hadn't asked myself that question yet because I saw no need to. As I held my horse's reins while it drank water from the little stream we had found, I glanced over at Chase and squinted at him in confusion, "What would be their reason for not letting us in then?" I asked. Stroking his horse's mane, he just shrugged, "I don't know, Alpha Malric. The manner in which you left, it was a little hasty, as if you were not welcomed there. Correct me if I am wrong, of course, but if a conflict happened before you left, don't you think it is reason enough for there to be an obstruction? Also, how are we sure that Alruin is back anyway?"I frowned and looked away, "We don't." I replied flatly, "but there is a chance he might return, if he wants to. And now that we have found out about Lorak's new partnership with Lyra, I need to get the information to him. Even if we do not travel on the same path anymore." "And who was Lorak to Alruin though?

Lyra"You are ready."I sighed and crossed my legs on the footstool in front of me. Andralita had a way of showing up unexpectedly and she had the habit of doing it when I was at my most relaxed. I opened my eyes slowly, she was sitting on a couch just across from me. I squinted at her, trying to get a glimpse of that hideous face of her through the heavy mass of hair that served as a curtain to mask her deformity. "You should consider a hairdo one of these days, you know." "I have been watching closely, your heart has opened up much quicker than I expected," she said, ignoring my snide remark, "it makes me wonder how you became so stone-hearted. It would take years to get over a true lover, but you have done that in a few days. Your father loved you, treated you like an egg and turned you into a spoiled brat, so tell me, where did you learn how not to be loved?"I glared at her, my heart suddenly racing as my chest burned with a strange heat. "You really think you know me, Andrali
