Alruin

Mojo slowly turned and looked at me. The anger and malevolence in his eyes suddenly disappeared as a cheeky smirk crossed his face.

“Oh, you were not supposed to see my own blade get bloody,” he remarked slowly, then regarded the dead man again, “You see, here, freedom is a luxury for those who offend us. Those who commit crimes, who trespass and blaspheme against the goddess. I put a price on his life.”

I felt sick to my stomach, but managed to keep a straight face, “The price you put on his life was mind.”

“It was a fair trade. No life is worth more than another.” He replied flatly and sighed, sauntering towards me still with his weapon in hand, “but you have proven to be very smart and who knows, you might just get away. Unless, of course, you have something to live for.”

I stared at the ground thoughtfully, my heart burning with self-loathing and regret. What or who did I have to live for anyway? Those beasts? Lorak? Malric?

I couldn't exactly pinpoint anyone, but I k

AlruinSomething was off.I could feel it in the way the ground rumbled beneath my feet. Why the hell was I barefooted anyway? What town was this? I looked around, unable to recall how exactly I had gotten here. The buildings I could see were dilapidated and abandoned, its roofs and walls besmirched by wind and time. I was a hundred percent sure that in all our travels, we hadn’t crossed this town, not once. Malric had to be in one of these buildings, maybe he would be able to make some sense of what the fuck was actually going in here. The air was bleak, as if the very life had been snuffed out of it. The dusty town was windy, making the air brown and hazy, forcing me to cover a palm over my eyes. I edged forward and suddenly heard a loud voice that rippled through the air and shook the ground, sending a shudder into my tired body.“You finally made it here.”I looked up, barely able to see the sky as the wind gushed past my face, “Who are you? And where am I?” “When the beasts

MalricOur shoulders touched that night, but neither of us flinched. Alruin went to bed finally, but I didn’t join him, I couldn’t. It felt like I had already broken something sacred between us, a trust of friendship that he had established before we began this journey, but he didn’t say a word about it. Maybe I was thinking about it too deeply? I couldn’t tell until Alruin actually opened up to me. Aside from Alruin’s indifference, there was something unwelcoming about this city. I could see it in the manner the people looked at me. They weren’t a very secretive town, and didn't know how to hide their emotions either. Most would look at me, some even point, then whisper to each other. It wasn't an unusual thing to be the center of attraction, but the negative energy made it seem like my presence in Dunemire was wearing very thin. “There’s something off about this city now,” I said, gathered around a small breakfast table with Cain and Nyari, “but first, where is Alruin?”Cain

Alruin We were so close to kissing.I was conscious, my body wanted it, my wolf desired it and I had almost let it happen, had it not been for Cain. What the hell was wrong with me? This wasn’t the time to indulge in such frivolities and with Malric of all people? Goddess, Alruin! You need to get a grip of yourself. As I walked out of the room that morning, it became more obvious to me that Cain didn’t understand whatever chaos was hidden in the magic I allegedly possessed. I saw the fear in his eyes last night. He clearly had no idea of what I was capable of and neither was I. Maybe it was time we actually got moving. Only Marla would be able to help me now. I stopped when I saw Nyari standing at the end of the hallway, a calm smile stretched across her lips. She waved at me and I joined her. “What are you doing here, Nyari?”“I could barely keep up with Malric and Cain’s jogging. I got worn out after a few minutes and decided to head back to my hut,” her lively eyes suddenly da

Lyra“It’s time.” Eli said, frowning at me as he stood at the door.I applied the last touch of my makeup and grinned at him through the mirror, “You don’t approve?” I asked.“No, I don’t.”I shrugged and rose to my feet, “Somethings I just have to do even though they do not sit well with you, Eli. I have to get to the root of everything that is happening before I can start working my way back up, how many times do I have to explain this to you?” “It’s not just about finding the truth, my lady,” he replied through clenched teeth, his eyes suddenly darting with worry, “but going against Drekka isn’t the smartest thing to do. You’ve literally sent down elders from our pack to Vantheir because you don’t want Drekka to know what you’re doing.”“That’s because he will report it all to my father if he finds out.”“He will eventually. Nothing escapes Drekka’s eyes.”“Good.” I said flatly and walked past him, “by the time he does, it will be too late; I will have everything I need.”Eli, al

Malric Cain rushed past me and a surge of energy suddenly burst through my veins, jerking my cold limbs back to life. I sprang forward, overtaking Cain, but there was no way either of us were making it on time. As the beast’s massive claw was inches away from Alruin, something suddenly happened. As though he had eyes on the back of his head, Alruin ducked out of his way, sinking his claws into the beast’s belly. I stopped, shocked at how quick his reflexes were. I saw the shock on Cain’s face too and he started muttering something under his breath. The beast howled in pain and Alruin, with blood-soaked claws, dug his claws into the beast's head, killing it instantly. He panted heavily and closed his eyes. When he finally opened them, he stared at me impassively and for a second, I couldn’t see any trace of the gentle Alruin I once knew in those cold eyes. “We need to find a way to shut the leak through which they came in,” he said, walking past Cain and I. “I have a feeling so m

Malric Cain was injured badly.Something terrible had happened and it was quickly spreading all over the city. Alruin refused to talk about it with me because he felt ashamed. So, he decided to lock himself up in our room while Nyari went on to treat Cain. I didn’t want to force the issue, so I decided to go to Nyari for answers instead. I waited until it was evening and the boisterous streets began to thin out. She walked out of the hut she had been treating Cain in, sweating profusely, thin with exhaustion, but that tired face broke into an excited smile when she saw me waiting. “Malric.” She called nervously.I frowned, I still hadn’t gotten used to being addressed so casually, but I hid my discomfort. “Hello.” I said and glanced at the hut, even though I didn’t want to, I found myself asking, “How is he?”“He just needs more rest,” she said, her eyes fixed on my jaw with fascination. I felt like a spectacle standing in the middle of an empty museum and she was the only spectat
