Liam leads me into the dining room as a wave of cadets enters around us.
“Is there assigned seating?” I ask, glancing around.
“Not really. Usually people sit with their year groups. You only really know your own cohort. That’s the trainer table though.”
He jerks his chin toward the table set slightly apart from the rest. A monolith of a man with black hair and a beard is already seated there with a tray in front of him.
“You can sit with me today though, or you’ll end up alone. Since there’s an extra table, we’ve spread out a little more over the summer.”
Liam leads me to the service hatches and hands me a tray. The food looks and smells amazing.

Zahra's POVI devour my lunch, still feeling the weight of a lot of eyes on me for most of it. Towards the end of the meal, Zanthe stretches awake — thank the goddess, or shifting later would’ve been awkward. There’s a lot of banter and chatter at our table.
