Chapter 19

Josh's POV

I couldn't breathe. The room felt like it was spinning as I scrambled to gather my scattered clothes, my hands shaking so badly I could barely button my shirt.

"This can't be happening," I muttered, searching frantically for my car keys. "This isn't real."

Katy watched me with that same satisfied smile, making no effort to cover herself. "Running away so soon? That's not very gentlemanly of you."

"Stay away from me," I warned, finally finding my keys on the nightstand. "Whatever game you're playing, it's over."

"Oh, Josh," she said with mock sympathy. "The game is just beginning."

I didn't wait to hear more. I bolted from the hotel room, taking the stairs two at a time rather than wait for the elevator. My car was in the parking garage, and I drove home in a daze, my mind racing with fragments of memory that made no sense.

Two glasses of champagne shouldn't have knocked me out completely. I'd had more than that at business dinners and remained perfectly lucid. Bu

Chapter 21Zara's POVTwo days. Two entire days without a single word from Josh. No calls, no texts, no surprise visits. Nothing but deafening silence that grew louder with each passing hour.I sat curled up on Green's couch, staring at my phone for the hundredth time, willing it to buzz with his name. But the screen remained dark and mocking."He doesn't love me anymore," I whispered to Green, who was folding laundry nearby. "I pushed him away that day, and now he's done with me.""Zara, honey, that's not true." Green sat down beside me, her voice gentle but firm. "Josh is crazy about you. Anyone with eyes can see that.""Then where is he? Why won't he talk to me?" My voice cracked. "I've never seen him act like that before. So cold, so distant. Like I was bothering him just by existing.""Maybe he really was just sick. You said he seemed off.""He rejected me, Green. Josh has never, ever turned me down before. Not once." Tears started flowing freely now. "And the way he looked at me

Chapter 20 Josh's POV Morning came like a death sentence. I'd spent the entire night staring at the ceiling, replaying every moment of yesterday's nightmare. The 24-hour deadline felt like a noose tightening around my neck with each passing minute. But I had a company to run. Employees depending on me. I couldn't hide at home forever, no matter how much I wanted to. I walked into my office building feeling like a condemned man. Each step toward my floor felt heavier than the last. When the elevator doors opened, I steeled myself for whatever fresh hell awaited me. The sight that greeted me in my office made my blood boil. Katy was sitting in my chair, her feet up on my desk, scrolling through her phone like she owned the place. "Get up," I said through gritted teeth. "Get up right now." She looked up with that infuriating smile. "Good morning to you too, Josh. Sleep well?" "I said get up from my chair." "Oh, but I'm so comfortable here." She stretched languidly. "Besides, y

Chapter 18Josh's POVLife had never felt more perfect. A month had passed since the lawsuit was dropped, and it was like a weight had been lifted from both our shoulders. Zara and I were stronger than ever, our relationship deepening with each passing day. This morning, I found her standing in front of the bathroom mirror, her hands resting on her growing belly. At three months pregnant, she was finally starting to show, and the sight took my breath away."Look at this," she said softly, turning sideways to give me a better view. "I can actually see it now."I moved behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist and placing my hands over hers on her stomach. "Our baby's really in there.""Getting bigger every day." She leaned back against me. "Dr. Elizabeth says everything's progressing perfectly.""Have I told you how beautiful you look pregnant?" I kissed the side of her neck."Only about a hundred times this week." She smiled at me in the mirror. "But I don't mind hearing it again.

Chapter 17 Zara's POV I stormed into Josh's office without knocking, my fury barely contained. He looked up from his computer, his face immediately shifting from calm to concerned when he saw my expression. "Zara? What's wrong?" "What's wrong?" I slammed my hands down on his desk. "You gave MY project to Katy. The Nexus project I've been working on for weeks!" Josh's face went pale. "What are you talking about? I didn't—" "Don't lie to me, Josh! Henderson & Associates called me yesterday. They said the transfer came directly from your office." "Zara, I swear to you, I never authorized any transfer." He stood up, moving around his desk toward me. "Someone else must have—" The office door burst open behind me. "Josh, I need to talk to you about the Nexus—" Katy stopped mid-sentence when she saw me. "Oh. Zara. I didn't know you were here." "Perfect timing," I said, turning to face her. "I was just asking Josh why he gave you my project." Katy's eyes flickered between J

Chapter 16Zara's POVI woke up to the sound of keys jingling at the front door. Josh's arm was wrapped around me, and I realized we were still on the couch, both of us barely dressed. I was in my bra and panties, and Josh had his trousers on but no shirt."Zara!" Green's voice rang out cheerfully as she walked through the door. "I'm home and I brought Chinese—" She stopped dead in her tracks, taking in the scene before her.I felt my face burn with embarrassment as I scrambled to cover myself with Josh's shirt. "Green! I can explain—""Honey, no need to explain anything," Green laughed, setting down her bags. "You're with your man. I get it. Just maybe next time use the bedroom? The couch is where I eat my cereal."Josh was trying not to laugh beside me, which only made me more mortified."I'm just going to my room and pretend I didn't see anything," Green called over her shoulder as she disappeared down the hallway. "But next time, maybe hang a sock on the door or something!""Oh my
