Aria

It's dark in here, and it smells like rotten corpse.

I don't know how I'm sure of this, but I'm sure somebody died in here, I just hope I don't end up like they did.

My eyes are bound by a dark clothe, and my hands and feet are tied behind me.

I contemplate calling for help, but I can't find my voice.

"I'm scared, mother. I don't think we should do this. What if it's all a lie?" A small voice sounds very close to me, and I release an exhale.

Someone that can help me.

"Everyone must play their part, child." A dry voice responds.

My skin prickles when I hear the voice. There's something dark, and sinister about it.

"You have already been sentenced to death, mother. How do you think the Alpha would react if he discovers this?" The voice persists.

Alpha? Are they talking about Cassius?

If Cassius is here, maybe he can help me. Unbridled tears sting at the corners of my eyes.

Where am I? Where is Piper?

Oh, Goddesses! Piper!

I hope she's alive. I won't be able to live with myself if something happened to her.

Danger.

My wolf whispers in my mind.

"The King doesn't know what needs to be done. That is why I am doing it. One day, he will thank me." The dry voice replies.

"Or kill you." The child mutters back, and if not for my wolf senses, I won't have been able to pick that up.

"H-help," I surprisingly manage to let out a weak cry.

I immediately feel eyes on me, peering, and I shiver. "Please, help me. I beg you, don't hurt me."

The tears begin to flow down more freely. I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, with people who sound like they want to hurt me.

And I don't even know if Piper is alive or not.

"Oh, dear child. We don't want to hurt you. I see in your path great pain, but it is not I who shall inflict such pain upon you."

What is she talking about?

I feel her inching closer to me, and I involuntarily shuffle backward.

"Now, don't be afraid. I am Akira, and once a time I knew your parents. A time before the prophecy. I only want to help you." I begin to feel her hands on me.

Her skin feels even drier than her voice, and the closer she gets to me, the dizzier I feel.

"Please, no!"

"Please, I beg you. Don't touch me. Please!" I cry desperately.

The door to the room I'm in closes shut, and I assume the younger person has left.

And, I'm all alone with this crazy woman.

"Shush! I'll make this quick and as painless as possible. The real pain will come after the ritual, so hold still."

Ritual?

I feel her hands wrap around my ankles, and neck as she carries me. I'm lifted in the air, and placed on a flat surface.

"Please, what are you doing?" I ask frantically. Before I can repeat the question, I feel a sharp pain in my neck.

"Arghhh!" It's agonizing and hot, and suddenly I begin to feel hot all over.

It's like she's stabbed me, but at the same time the wound feels hotter than anything I've ever felt before.

My skin feels like it's being peeled off my body, and I writhe and yell in agony, begging and pleading with her for it to stop.

"Please, I'll do anything you want. Please spare me." But she doesn't stop.

She begins to pour some kind of liquid over the place I'd been stabbed, and the pain triples.

Her hand holds me still while she continues pouring the liquid over me.

In the scuffle, my blindfold is accidentally ripped off, and the first thing my eye falls on causes my brain to freeze.

A girl, not more than 16 years, is nailed to the wall. Different weapons protruding from her body, and her blood is pure black.

The sight is so frightening, that I let out a violent yell, and slump again.

***

The next time I wake up, I'm not sure I'm even awake.

I'm convinced I've been killed, and I'm with the moon goddess, but the pain radiating up my arm keeps me conscious.

My clothes are now like rags around me, and my heart feels like it's beating too slow.

"Don't move!"

The voice is so loud and deafening, that I hug myself tightly, and let out a piercing scream.

Not again, please.

I can't do this anymore. I don't want to be hurt again. I wish everything would stop.

The voice is followed by quick steps that appear right beside me.

I can't see the person clearly, but I can see shadows around them. They wear it like a cloak.

If I wasn't at the brink of passing out, I'd have been curious about them.

"I'm sorry if I scared you. I thought you were-" The man stops speaking when he really takes me in.

I struggle to raise my eyes up, and I meet the most beautiful grey eyes I've ever seen.

Who is this man? And how did he find me?

He doesn't look like one of the guards at the pack house. In fact, he doesn't look like any man I've ever seen before.

For one, his hair is darker than midnight, and his skin is paler than the moon on a dark night.

"Who are you? And why do you smell like that?" This time he peers at me closer.

Smell like what?

Instinctively, I sniff myself and realize what he means.

I don't smell like anything.

Because it's like I don't have a scent at all. And worst of all, I can't feel my wolf.

KaidenI had wasted enough time with this…stranger, Darien. Time was far spent, and I wondered where Aria was and how she was doing. Despite the fact that she had my shadows with her, I couldn't help but worry.“I'm done playing this game with you, Darien. I’ll be off, consider that as me letting you off.” I said.He let out a dry laugh, then his face turned serious like he didn't just laugh a while ago.“I guess you're done asking questions, shadow king.” His eyes held a taunting look.“And I guess you're done with your pretense too.”“You and I know very well who is the pretender between us.” His lips curled.“I shall put the rest of my time in better use.” I walked past him, heading towards the doors of the dungeon.“Not so fast, shadow king.” I felt a whoosh behind my ears as he appeared before me, with the tip of his sword pressed on my neck.“Just one more move, and that would be the end. Then by tomorrow, the headlines would be, “Shadow king found dead in the dungeon with his

  • Scent of Betrayal   OVERDOSED

AriaRiven was still unconscious. The physicians from the tower said he had been injected with some kind of drugs, in an over dose. Though it wouldn't cause him any harm, it was the reason for his unconsciousness.“How do you see Avarish milady? Beautiful, isn't it?” I heard Varaeys say.I snapped out of my thoughts, I hadn't even been observing anything. The carriage window was slightly opened so I poked my head out.“Careful, else some rebels chop your head off with a clean slice.” He chuckled, but I didn't find it funny as I slowly turned to glare at him subtly.“Ahem, I guess your sense of humour is quite low milady.” His lips curled. For someone I just meant, he was hell bent on getting on my nerves.“Come to think of it, I don't even know your name.” He raised a brow.“I'm—” I paused, unable to continue. What if he finds out who I truly was? That I was the granddaughter of the deceased head of the Flynn pack. What if he was one of granny's frenemies?I had to be careful, but if

  • Scent of Betrayal   THE SAVED HEAD

Aria I felt my heart beating so fast that I feared I might have a heart attack. It didn't help that to me, it seemed the horses were running quite slowly. “You have to be calm, milady. You look like you’re about to faint.” I heard Varaeys say as the horse galloped. My lips pursed as I threw him a slight glare. Someone I knew was about to die, and he was cracking jokes. If we were in a vehicle, I was sure we would have reached his goddamned pack since. What was Riven doing in Avarish? It was quite far from the rogue pack. I wondered what he could have done that could have led to them, wanting to behead him. “What was his offence?” I asked, amidst the noises that emanated from the galloping. “Nmm, I don't know. But, I know he was sent to another pack of ours to be beheaded. I heard he committed treason, but the pack didn't have the ability to behead him so they sent him to us. Avarish has quite a reputation of punishing traitors, even for other packs.” He uttered. Treason? I scof

  • Scent of Betrayal   OFF WITH HIS HEAD

Riven I looked at Piper, unsure if what she was hinting at or what she meant by Kaiden took us for fools. “And what do you mean by that?” “Alot Riven, quite a lot.” She laughed as she deliberately walked slowly towards me, sashaying as her hips swung from side to side. Now that I noticed, she was dressed in a gown, shorter than normal; at least to me. Then she stood in front of me, using her fingers to draw lines on her chest through the shirt I wore. My body stiffened, and I immediately felt tense. “Stop it, Piper.” I growled. “Stop what?” She tilted her head to the side, feigning ignorance. “Whatever shit you're trying to do with me.” I gritted my teeth. “Oh really, so it's working. I was right, you indeed feel…something for me.” She chuckled. “In your dreams.” I said, albeit knowing she was right. But I would rather die than accept that. Those feelings were something that was slowly dying off, and it wouldn't take long before it disappeared, at least. “What do you mea

  • Scent of Betrayal   Learning to Bond with the Shadows II

AriaThe figure walked towards me, and I noticed the person’s posture, it looked stunted. But it could possibly be a child, right? But why would a child be on a horse in this kind of environment, something didn't seem right. Unless it's what I'm thinking…The figure removed the mask, revealing a matured, manly face with long blonde locks, and green eyes. His head was bigger than the rest of his bother, he was a dwarf. The shadows had left me again, in the presence of strangers. I didn't understand the game they were playing. One moment they were hovering around me protectively, the other, they were gone.“I'm Varaeys, the second prince of Avarish, the merchant kingdom and wolf pack. You are pretty, and I shall sell you for a great fortune.” The short man stroked his chin as his eyes raked my body.I stared at him for a while, and then at his horses and men. Who uses a horse in this modern age? And here he was, spewing about how he was going to make a fortune off me.If I thought I had

Aria I said nothing in reply to his question, but instead took careful steps till I was at the door. “I'm right.” He chuckled.Did I really care for Kaiden? Deny it as I may, deep down, I knew the answer to that question.“You know, even if you decide to run away from me, I would still catch you. Or maybe not.” He paused, staring at the shadows with a look filled with hate, disgust and fear.“Considering those…things hover around you. But tell me, where were they when you were captured, sold, treated like an animal?” He asked.I had no answer to the questions, and I had no idea why they were here now. But I knew one thing, if I needed to escape this place in one piece, I needed them. “You're finally scared of something.” I muttered, “And I guess it's to my advantage, as I can leave without fear of you harming me.”“You think I’ll kill you.” He laughed dryly, “I know I’m a monster. But do you think of me as the worst monster to ever exist?”For a fleeting moment, I thought I saw pa
