Talia’s POV

The moment Jason left with Viki, I finally allowed the tears to fall.

I held them in through the accusations, the betrayal, the cold indifference, but now, with no one left to see me break, I collapsed.

Solon caught me before I hit the ground. I sobbed into his chest as I clung to him. He wrapped his arms around me without hesitation.

“You don’t have to hold it in anymore,” Solon cooed. “Let it out.”

“I just don’t understand,” I said through choked breaths. “He used to treat me so w

  • Second Chance for the Barren Luna   CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED & FORTY THREE

Talia’s POV“We’ll double your dose tonight,” Leslie said. “Just for tonight, take twice as much as usual, both times, and get to bed early.”“Is that safe? For them, I mean.”“It’s safer than the alternative. The herbs help slow down what the babies take from you. If they’re going to take more tonight, the tonic has to be stronger too. It’s the best we can do with the time we have.”That night, I drank the double dose, just like Leslie said. It tasted even worse than usual. Nolan sat on my bed and watched me finish the second cup, trying not to laugh.“Don’t even start,” I warned him.“What? I didn’t say anything.”“You were about to. I can see it all over your face.”“I wish I could show you what you look like. Your face is priceless,” Nolan said as he took the cup from me and offered me ice cream. “Like a kid forced to eat vegetables.”“It tastes like swamp water. Like Leslie boiled something dead in a swamp,” I said. I ate the ice cream, glad for the sweetness that finally covered

  • Second Chance for the Barren Luna   CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED & FORTY TWO

Talia’s POVTwo weeks passed without any trouble.I took Leslie’s herbs every morning and night, just like she told me to. Nolan kept buying ice cream, more than I could ever finish, but it never got rid of the bitter taste. He walked me to the hospital for checkups every day. Leslie checked me over and told Nolan everything was normal.“Their growth has slowed,” Leslie reported at the end of the first week.“By how much?” Nolan asked.“Enough that I’d have to measure twice to be sure I wasn’t imagining it,” Leslie replied.By the second week, Nolan relaxed even more. He started going to Solon’s office in the mornings instead of walking me to the hospital. He worked through the pack requests that had piled up while I was away, sending most of them back with answers before I even saw them.Every time I saw him happy, I felt guilty for lying, but not enough to tell him the truth. I told myself I was keeping quiet to spare him worry, to give him these days of peace, and because I was sca

  • Second Chance for the Barren Luna   CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED & FORTY ONE

Talia’s POVNolan’s voice was sharper than normal when he turned to Leslie, his eyes searching for answers. A chill ran through me, and my muscles tightened. If Nolan figured us out, I didn’t know how I would explain not telling him. ‘Good. Better that he knows now than later,’ my wolf said, and I ignored her. Leslie looked up from her open book and glared at Nolan. “Nolan, I need you to relax. My memory has been all over the place lately. The pregnancy symptoms are hitting me pretty hard. Lots of headaches, and I’m tired all the time.”"I don't understand how you can't remember," Nolan responded. "Sometimes I can't even remember what I had for breakfast. Do you think I'm hiding something?" Leslie snapped.Nolan’s frown deepened. Before he could say anything else, Solon stepped in. “Nolan, you need to be patient. Leslie’s going through a lot right now, and this has been stressful on all of us.”Nolan finally seemed to calm down. “Both of you are right. I’m sorry, Leslie. I didn’t m

  • Second Chance for the Barren Luna   CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED & FORTY

Nolan’s POVI woke up that morning with Talia gently stroking my cheek. Her hand felt warm and gentle. She was smiling at me when I opened my eyes.“Morning,” I murmured.“Good morning,” she replied, her thumb stroking my cheek. “How did you sleep?”I reached up and covered her hand with mine. “I slept great with you in my arms.”Talia chuckled and nudged me teasingly, showing she was in a good mood. “I’m fine, by the way. You don’t have to ask.”I smirked and said, “And you should know by now that I am going to ask anyway. How are you feeling?”Talia rolled her eyes and then said, “I’m really okay. I am more worried about you.”“Hmm? Why?”“Leslie told me you were up all night searching the library. You barely got any sleep,” Talia said.“Yes, Leslie said she needed help remembering the treatment,” I explained. “We only found six books that mentioned the Twin Bloodline Resonance.”“You checked the whole library?”I nodded. “Most of it. Della, Marco, and some guards helped. We split

Nolan’s POV“Marco, get another team of guards in here. We’re going to need the help,” I said. Soon, a dozen more guards joined us. “That’s all I could obtain without putting the pack’s security at risk,” Marco explained. “This is good enough, Marco,” I said. “Alright, everyone, grab a section. Start looking for anything about bloodlines or rare conditions.”We all went our separate ways and began searching. I pulled down book after book, flipping through them, but didn’t find anything helpful. After three hours, we were still empty-handed. My frustration kept growing. Every time I picked up another thick book and found nothing, I got a little more annoyed.“Anything?” I called out.Della shook her head from across the aisle. “No, nothing.”‘You’re becoming emotional,’ my wolf said flatly. "We have spent over three hours and found nothing," I retorted. ‘This is a large library. We’ve only gone through a third of this place,’ my wolf argued. ‘Don’t let your emotions get the best of

Talia’s POVI'm just a bit tired," I said, managing a weak smile while I pushed myself up in bed. My legs were tangled in the blanket, and I still felt foggy, but at least sitting up helped."How did I get here?" I asked, scanning the room in confusion.“Nolan, of course. He carried you to your room like the gentleman he is,” Leslie said. “He was very concerned that you were sleeping so heavily that you didn’t even respond to being moved.”I gave a shaky laugh. "Guess I really needed to catch up on sleep." Then, I hugged Leslie and then pulled Solon into the group hug. "I missed you guys so much.""We missed you too," Leslie said.Solon hugged me back. When we let go, I finally took a good look at him. He seemed so much better. He looked stronger, healthier, more like himself. His skin had color again, and he looked relaxed.Solon noticed me staring and asked, "What? Were you expecting me to still be bedridden?""No, but I’m surprised at how much better you look," I said. "You really
