Chapter 247

"How long will the meeting last?" Kandice frowned, pressing further.

"I really don't know," the receptionist said. "That's executive business—I can't inquire about it. Besides, meetings don't always end when they're supposed to. If you know Mr. Duncan, perhaps you could contact him first next time to confirm he's available before coming?"

"In that case, I'll go up and wait," Kandice said, turning toward the elevator. The receptionist immediately stretched her arm across the desk to stop her. "Miss, I'm sorry, but since you don't have an appointment or permission, you can't go upstairs."

"But I need to see him!" Kandice frowned in displeasure, looking at the receptionist as if she were being unreasonable.

She took a deep breath before saying, "Our families are old friends. We've had dinner together before, and I've met his parents."

Kandice blushed slightly with shy embarrassment, patiently explaining, "His assistant didn't tell him it was me looking for him, did he?"

This time, Aria didn’t give Archer the chance to answer. She jumped in right away. “Okay!”She had replied a little too quickly. Realizing it, she glanced at Archer, a bit sheepish. He looked like he was holding back a smile, his dark eyes sparkling with teasing amusement. But he didn’t object. His voice was calm and steady. “I’ll check my schedule. We’ll come by Friday or Saturday.”Rachel’s face lit up with a genuine smile, and Aria shot Archer a grateful look.As the two of them left and got into the car, Aria didn’t say thank you. It just felt too formal—too distant. She figured saying it might even annoy him.But right before the Range Rover pulled into the garage, just as they were about to get out, Aria suddenly leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. The gesture was so light and swift that it stirred a faint breeze, along with the soft scent of her perfume. She was just about to open the door when Archer caught her wrist and tugged her back.At the same time,

Aria nodded, doing her best to hold back the hot sting of tears. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “If I’d fallen for an ordinary guy, none of you would be this worried, would you?”James let out a quiet sigh. “Aria, at the end of the day, we just want you to be happy. If being with him gives you that, then we’ll support you.”He paused, then added thoughtfully, “We may not live in luxury like before. Maybe we don’t wear designer clothes or throw lavish dinners anymore. But honestly? I think we’re a lot more at peace now. People like the Williams… they’re constantly scheming, chasing profit, calculating every move. That kind of life—always on edge, always watching your back—what’s the point? Just because it looks glamorous doesn’t mean it feels good.”James glanced toward the kitchen and handed her a tissue. “They’re coming.”Aria took the tissue and gently dabbed at her eyes, drawing out the heat before it could spill over. She took a few deep breaths, grounding herself. By t

“We’re family now. No need to stand on ceremony,” Archer said with a faint smile as he set down the plate.Rachel wasn’t sure how to respond. She had always found Archer a bit intimidating, hard to read, almost unapproachable. And yet—was it just her, or did he sound a little shameless saying that? The contrast left her conflicted. She pulled a tissue from the table behind her and handed it to him.Archer took it with quiet grace and wiped the sauce from his thumb, his movements calm and elegant. Then he simply stood there, waiting for her to speak.Rachel sighed. “How serious are you about my daughter?”Archer didn’t hesitate. “I believe marrying her speaks for itself.”His voice was steady, firm. There was no room for doubt.Rachel took a deep breath. Her voice tightened. “Even if your family doesn’t approve?”She hadn’t meant to be so blunt, but she needed to hear it from him. There were things Aria wouldn’t ask or even think to question. It was up to her, as the mother, to

Archer parked the Range Rover just outside the apartment. After getting out, he opened the trunk and pulled out a carefully wrapped gift prepared for Rachel. When they reached the door, they noticed it was slightly ajar. The smell of food wafted out—warm and savory. Aria hadn't had a home-cooked meal from Rachel in ages. The familiar scent hit her unexpectedly hard, making her throat tighten with emotion. She took a deep breath, forced herself to settle down, and knocked gently on the door.It was James who answered. When he saw Archer, he greeted him politely and stepped aside to let them in.Rachel was still in the kitchen, busy over the stove. James took the gift from Archer’s hands while Aria stepped into the kitchen, hesitating for just a moment before quietly saying, “Mom, I’m here.”Rachel had heard them come in long ago but couldn’t bring herself to go out and greet them. She had been hiding behind the excuse of cooking, focusing entirely on the sizzling pan.She finally

“Wait here for a moment. I’ll be right back,” Archer said softly. His voice was low, almost murmured into her ear. But if the manager had been paying attention, he would’ve caught a bit of it.The manager, who had been pretending not to look, froze. That gentle tone completely threw him off. Archer Duncan? Speaking like that?Since Archer’s back was turned, the manager couldn’t see his expression clearly. But still—his girlfriend looked young. Really young.Archer gave Aria’s hand another squeeze, only letting go once she was comfortably seated. Then he turned and walked over to continue the meeting.A few minutes later, Kent came in with refreshments for Aria—some snacks and a drink. Since she’d be heading home for dinner soon, she didn’t eat much.Seated quietly, Aria looked around Archer’s office. It was minimalist, clean, and straightforward—everything visible at a glance. But there was a small door leading to what must’ve been a private lounge. That room probably held the per

“Okay,” Aria nodded sweetly, her fingers gently tightening around his. That one sentence from him made her heart feel warm and light. As soon as they stepped into the elevator and the doors slid shut, Archer pulled her into his arms. He let go of her hand only to wrap both arms snugly around her waist.“Be good. Let me kiss you,” he murmured against the corner of her eye, his breath hot against her lashes and temple. His lips brushed softly across her pale cheek, lingering, savoring the feel of her skin—smooth like warm silk, impossible to resist. The heat of his mouth followed the curve of her face, moving slowly and deliberately.Since this was his private elevator, leading straight to his floor, Aria didn’t bother to resist. Her cheeks burned under his touch. She instinctively tilted her head up, only to be met with his lips before she could fully catch his gaze. The kiss came deep and unhurried, pressing and grinding into her until she was breathless.Only when he finally let
