Chapter 279

Author: Cloud Drop
“The Duncans are even more anxious about this than we are. There’s no way they’ll let Aria Jackson get her way,” Sandra said coldly. She still couldn’t believe it—the Jacksons went bankrupt, Aria got divorced, and somehow she was still stirring up trouble!

Kandice’s face darkened. Her jaw clenched. “They registered their marriage!”

“What?!”

Even Benjamin looked stunned.

“They already got married? Didn’t she just divorce Larry?” No one had seen this coming.

Kandice looked like she was about to cry again, her voice breaking between gasps. “Who knows what kind of madness got into Archer? Out of all the clean, well-bred young ladies he could’ve chosen, he had to fall for some used-up tramp!”

“But I won’t accept this!” she shouted, her voice sharp with frustration. “What does Aria Jackson have that I don’t? I’m younger than her, my family’s wealthier, I’m just as pretty—why does he like her and not me?”

She gritted her teeth. “Archer didn’t even spare me a glance. He brought her over

Fifi let herself be pushed back into the chair by her mother, though her expression remained tight. No matter what Yvonne said, she couldn’t force a smile.“Come on, give me a smile,” Yvonne coaxed, trying to soothe her. She waved the stylist back in to fix her makeup. “Mark’s waiting out front. You don’t want him seeing you like this when you walk down the aisle, do you?”“Mark’s already here?” Fifi’s face shifted instantly. “Did he see Aria?”“No, of course not,” Yvonne said, confused by her reaction. “The ceremony hasn’t even started. He’s just waiting by the entrance.”It took effort, but they eventually calmed Fifi down. Yvonne stayed close, not daring to leave her alone again. When someone finally came to escort the bride to the aisle, Yvonne accompanied her to the red carpet entrance, where Calvin Chancer—Fifi’s father—was waiting to walk her down the aisle. At the far end, Mark stood beneath the floral arch. The wedding march hadn’t begun yet, but his eyes were already sca

“Enough,” Grandpa Duncan finally spoke, setting down his teacup. “They’re already here—just let them sit. It’s a wedding, not a battleground.”With that, Robert could only grit his teeth and fall silent, though his expression was still dark. But there was another family at the table whose faces looked even worse.Kandice reached over and tugged lightly at her mother Sandra’s sleeve. They couldn’t say anything in front of the others, no matter how furious they were. Sandra’s eyes flicked back to the Duncan table, then gave Kandice’s hand a quick pat, signaling her to hold it in.---Meanwhile, in the bridal suite, Fifi was having her final touch-ups done when there was a knock at the door.Sophia Walker walked in, smiling brightly.“Fifi, you look beautiful today,” she said, giving her an approving once-over. “They say the bride is always the most stunning in the room—and it’s true.”“Thank you,” Fifi said with a cheerful smile, her dimples showing. “Is everything going okay out

At the Simmons family table sat Mark’s parents, along with a few uncles and cousins.Even though the Duncans had arranged separate seating, Mark’s mother, Lillian, wasn’t happy about it. She felt like they were being looked down on—but with so many high-profile guests around, she didn’t dare show it.They hadn’t invited that many people—just about everyone they could think of. A few of Mark’s colleagues from Duncan Industries were there, along with some of his old classmates. The Duncan side, however, had a much larger turnout. Not just immediate family, but extended relatives and prominent figures from other families as well. Most were there out of respect for the Duncans.Lillian was too nervous to enjoy any of it. It was her first time at such a grand event. She’d worn her best dress and clutched the Hermès Birkin Fifi had gifted her. But even seated at the table, her eyes kept drifting toward the entrance.“What are you staring at?” her husband, Gavin Simmons, tugged gently at

Once they were a few blocks away from the venue, Archer glanced sideways and asked, “You ran into Sandra in the restroom, didn’t you?”Was there anything this man couldn’t read?Aria sighed inwardly. It was like nothing ever got past him. She always felt like she was made of glass in front of him—completely see-through.So she gave up trying to hide it and admitted what happened, summarizing the confrontation in the restroom.Archer’s expression sharpened with a trace of mockery. “They really have some nerve.”He’d never taken Benjamin Williams or Sandra seriously. Honestly, he couldn’t even remember Kandice’s name half the time. After a pause, he said, “This Saturday—Fifi Chancer and Mark Simmons’s wedding. Come with me.”Aria turned to look at him. “Chancer family’s attending too?”He nodded. And of course, this wasn’t a casual invite.Fifi had made some pretty snide remarks before, mocking Aria for not being accepted into the Duncan family, saying even with a marriage cert

Anson frowned and muttered, “Just go to sleep already. You can have everything in your dreams.”With that, the group started wrapping up.As they made their way to the lobby and said their goodbyes, Amanda pulled Aria aside. “Come visit sometime,” she said with a smile. “We should hang out at my place.”Just then, six well-dressed middle-aged socialites came out from a nearby private room.“Isn’t that Archer Duncan?” one of the women whispered. “Didn’t your daughter go on a date with him? Looks like he already has a girlfriend.”Sandra’s gaze immediately locked onto Archer and Aria’s hands—intertwined. Her face stiffened. But she forced a bitter smile.“Who knows what kind of relationship they really have?” she said sharply. “Maybe she’s just his side chick. If it were serious, would his family be setting him up on dates?”Then she took a breath, straightened her posture, and added, “Give me a second—I’m going to say hello.”She turned and walked toward them with purpose, her

Earlier, he’d only looked at her from across the room and she blushed. But now she was leaning into him on her own. Something must’ve happened.“What’s wrong?” Archer asked gently.Aria shook her head. She didn’t dare look into those deep eyes of his—afraid he’d see right through her. She lowered her head, resting her forehead against his shoulder. “Nothing... I just missed you.”The hand she held relaxed at first, but then suddenly tightened, his long fingers wrapping around hers in a firm, protective grip. He gently pressed his fingertips against the back of her hand.“Wanna get out of here?” he murmured, brushing a soft kiss against her forehead. His warm breath skimmed down between her brows, sending heat rushing across her face.Even without looking, she could feel his eyes on her—intense and unwavering. Her ears burned. She wanted to say I missed you didn’t mean let’s leave right now—especially not with half the room watching them.“That’s not what I meant,” Aria mumbled,
