Chapter 424

Author: Cloud Drop
He finally let out a quiet laugh and brushed the strands of hair stuck to her forehead and cheeks, revealing her delicate, lovely face.

Leaning in close, he whispered by her ear, “If you’d known back then that it was me who saved you… would you have started liking me from that moment?”

Aria gave a soft snort. “If I’d liked you from back then, you probably wouldn’t have thought much of me. You’d have gotten bored and forgotten about me ages ago. Men never treasure what comes easy.”

Archer tightened his arms around her, resting his lips on the top of her head. His voice came low and steady, “If I like someone, it’s because I knew from the start they were the one.”

Aria paused, remembering what Fifi had told her:

“Back then I thought it was just a coincidence… but now that I think about it, Archer probably followed you there on purpose. The farewell party was for him, and there were so many places they could’ve gone. Why choose a frozen lakeside in the middle of winter?”

Rachel was mortified. Her face was still burning from embarrassment—thankfully it was already dark, or everyone would’ve seen how red she’d gone. She thought about it more and understood why Archer had reacted that way, but she still couldn’t help muttering under her breath, “He is older than Aria… What’s so wrong with pointing that out?”---By Friday, the cut on Archer’s forehead had stopped bleeding and scabbed over. The bandage was gone too.Since their flight was in the afternoon, he still had to go into the office that morning. He brought Aria along to the company, while Christina had gone home to pack and planned to meet them at the airport later. As Archer and Aria reached the building entrance, they ran into Mark and Fifi.Mark’s car was still at the dealership for repairs, so he’d come in with Fifi this morning. The moment she saw them, Fifi latched onto Mark’s arm, giving him a hard pinch when he looked like he might pull away.Mark frowned slightly, then glanced down

A little boy let out a dramatic “Oh no!” before he and his friend dashed over to a stone platform near the sidewalk. They leaned over it, peering at a tree growing right up against the edge. One of the boys tried to climb up. He placed both hands on the platform and made a few attempts to hoist himself up, but it was no use. The ledge was about waist-high on Archer—which made it nearly impossible for a kid that age to reach. As Aria and Archer walked past, she slowed down and asked, “What’s going on?”The boy recognized her instantly. “Miss!” he called out, pointing up. “We hit it too hard, and the shuttlecock got stuck in the tree!”He held up his dusty hand and pointed at the branches overhead. Sure enough, the shuttlecock was wedged right between them.Aria hesitated. Normally, she’d just have Archer grab it, no question. But tonight was different. He was still recovering—clearly lightheaded from the crash.Still, it felt wrong to just walk away. There was a grown man standin

“He just lost it out of nowhere and rammed into the back of the boss’s car,” Kent explained as he drove. “Mr. Duncan was about to make a turn, so the hit made the car fishtail and slam into the next lane. The second impact was what really did the damage.”“Is he insane?” Aria’s eyes were burning with anger. She had told Mark again and again that she wasn’t interested. Why would he do something like this?“I’m fine, aren’t I?” Archer gave her a reassuring smile and squeezed her hand.Kent kept quiet but silently confirmed it—his boss had absolutely exaggerated his condition on purpose.A few minutes later, Archer’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen. “Probably an update about the accident.”“I’ll get it.” Aria took the phone. “Hello? Henry, it’s me—Aria.”“Mrs. Duncan,” Henry greeted her. He cast a glance at Mark, who stood nearby, his expression twisted with hostility.“It’s officially ruled a rear-end collision,” Henry reported. “Whether it was intentional or not, it falls

The moment Aria heard that word—“accident”—her face changed. She rushed to open the back door of the car. When she saw Archer sitting there, upright and alert, she finally exhaled. She didn’t even know why her heart had jumped like that. Kent had said Archer was in the car, so clearly he was fine. But the moment she heard the word "crash," everything in her head had scrambled.“You were in a car accident? Did you get—” She froze mid-sentence as her eyes landed on the cut at his temple. It wasn’t gushing, but a thin layer of blood still glistened beneath the light.“You’re bleeding—why didn’t you go to the hospital?!” Aria’s voice rose, panic edging in.“I told you I’d come pick you up, didn’t I?” Archer said calmly. “It’s nothing. Just didn’t want to worry you.” As he spoke, he dabbed at the wound with a tissue, soaking up fresh blood.“That’s exactly what’s making me worry!” Aria scolded, grabbing his hand and peeling the tissue back. When she saw the cut wasn’t as deep as she f

In front of Archer, Mark always felt powerless—like he was constantly being looked down on.The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Without even realizing, his foot pressed harder and harder on the gas until—bang. His car slammed into the back of Archer’s SUV.Archer hadn’t been prepared at all. He had just started to turn when Mark’s car smashed into his tail, sending the Range Rover skidding sideways. The momentum carried it straight into the car in the next lane. The double impact whipped Archer forward. His forehead slammed into the steering wheel, then jerked sideways, knocking into the driver-side window.Dazed, he sucked in a sharp breath, then slowly pushed open the door and stepped out of the car—just in time to see Mark getting out of his own vehicle.Mark lit a cigarette, took a slow drag, and narrowed his eyes at Archer.“Sorry. Zoned out while driving,” he said casually, exhaling smoke. The driver of the other car, clearly fuming, jumped out. “Are you out

After lunch, Archer had wanted Aria to stay with him for the rest of the afternoon. But she had things to discuss with Christina, so he didn’t press the issue and drove her home himself. On the way, Aria got a call from her mother.“Mom, hold on. Let me check if he’s free tonight,” Aria said, covering the phone and turning to Archer. “Do you want to come over later?”Archer nodded. “No dinner meetings tonight, and work’s light. I can get off on time.”Aria smiled and spoke back into the phone, “We’ll come by.”After a pause, she glanced at Archer and added with a teasing smile, “He likes bold, spicy flavors! And he loves romaine lettuce. Also sea urchin—pretty much anything seafood.”After hanging up, she grinned. “Mom wanted to know what kind of dishes you like.”---That evening, just as he stepped out of the elevator, Archer called Aria. “I’m off work now. I’ll come pick you up so we can head over together. Of course we can’t be late—your mom’s expecting us.”From the next
