Chapter 4

Penulis: Moore
Camile frowned.

“She chose now of all days to disappear? It’s Wendy’s nineteenth birthday, for Moon Goddess’ sake. When is she going to grow up and stop making everything about herself?”

In her opinion, it was another one of my theatrics to ruin things for Wendy.

Terence pulled a grimace.

“She can leave for all I care! She has always had a flair for drama, giving us an attitude just to get her way. She wants us to ditch Wendy and fuss over her. Just leave her. Wendy deserves a day without her toxicity.”

“You have a point.”

Camile chimed in on that thought and turned to Matthias with an instruction.

“Notify the household that no one is to go after Sasha. She can come back once she’s ready to admit she’s wrong. I won’t go easy on any wolf helping her in secret.”

Keeping his head low, Matthias expressed compliance without a hint of compassion for me. He nodded in agreement before passing along the order.

With a decision made, the attention shifted back to Wendy, who was in the spotlight.

Camile straightened up the lace on Wendy’s dress with utmost care while Terence took her hand with a smile.

“Wendy, I bought the Moon Sailed Ship that you have been eyeing. We can all head to the coast for a sea getaway as soon as you have time.”

Wendy’s eyes sparkled, and she covered her mouth in joy. “Really, Dad?”

Like a young pup, she leaped perkily before casting her gaze down bashfully.

“It’s too much… I didn’t mean for you to take it seriously.”

Overcome by emotions, Wendy nestled in Terence’s arms and choked in sobs.

“Thank you, Dad… Thank you, Mom. You are the best.”

She lifted her chin, her eyes glistening in happiness. She turned to Allen.

“You’re coming along, right? It won’t be the same if you’re not there too, Allen.”

Allen kept a sweet smile on the surface, but deep down, there was this sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.

He nodded absently and took up on her invitation. Once all eyes were back on the party, he pulled Matthias aside and asked in hushed tones, “Did Sasha say where she went? When is she coming back?”

Matthias, his eyes darting around, snuck a peek where Wendy was and murmured a reply.

“Miss Sasha left in a hurry without saying where she was going. She carried a little backpack with her. It doesn’t look like she took a lot of things with her. Besides…”

He paused before adding.

“Besides, she walked out like she didn’t care at all. I bet she’s just acting out to make the world revolve around her.”

Allen’s furrowed brows deepened.

“She must be upset with me. I should’ve gone with her to restore the bond mark,” Allen murmured under his breath, his throat tightening.

He fished out his phone and tried my number repeatedly, only to receive a cold busy tone in return.

Just then, Wendy sauntered over and tugged at his sleeve.

“Allen, stop thinking about Sasha. She’s resourceful. She will be fine. Maybe she’ll show up after we cut the cake.”

Getting on her tiptoes, Wendy spoke in a soft, pleading voice.

“I’ve been looking forward to blowing out the candles with you. You promised to be my dance partner at my party. You can’t go back on your word now.”

“But Sasha—”

Before Allen could say anything more, Wendy jumped in.

“Sasha is an adult she-wolf. She can take care of herself.”

Wendy pulled him toward the cake, her voice betraying a subtle hint of urgency.

“Everyone is waiting. The candles are going to melt into the cake if we don’t go now.”

Matthias chimed in. “Miss Wendy has a point. It’s her birthday today. You can’t let her down. You know how stubborn Miss Sasha can be. Even if you go after her, she might not be so willing to come back.”

Allen’s footsteps were heavy as Wendy dragged him along.

He looked back at the entrance while whispering silently to himself, “Just wait one more day, Sasha. I’ll head to you and bring you back.”

Unbeknownst to him, I was already on my way to the Northern Territories.

George’s wolves were already waiting for me at the crossroads. On my person, I had my herbs, essentials, and a resolve to never return.

At the research camp in the Northern Territories, my life opened to a new chapter. Sasha didn’t exist in this area. Here, I was Alison. My worth was no longer defined by my family’s prestige or the name of my mate, but by the herbs in my hands, my knowledge, and my decisions.I pulled battle-torn team members from the jaws of death. My antidote once saved half the squad from a mass silver poisoning. I trained them in basic first aid and poison identification out in the fields. George, our leader, stopped by outside my medical tent during a night patrol. “Alison.” He addressed me by my new name, his voice a constant ground force in the chilling wind. “I see the change you have brought. Out here, we can’t survive on our weapons. We need hands that can save lives, and you’ve proven yourself to be exceptional.” It wasn’t just a polite formality on his part. This was a genuine approval, coming from a powerful Alpha. Over time, my team members’ polite distance turned into he

In the days that followed, Allen would drop by the manor to see if I had returned. He even put together a belated birthday gift for me. It was a necklace embedded with sparkling moonstones. Allen had been counting the days. On the eve of the next full moon, he rushed to the manor. Since the moon would be at its fullest tomorrow, I was certain to come back and renew the bond mark on my wrist. Allen planned to surprise me by taking me back to Moonlight Lake on the night of the full moon for a fresh start. However, he was met by the hollow silence of an empty room. My room was unnervingly spotless. All of my belongings were gone. “Isn’t Sasha back yet?” With dread washing over him, Allen grabbed hold of Matthias and asked. Matthias shrugged. “Miss Sasha? She hasn’t been back. “I think I haven’t seen her since Miss Wendy’s birthday party.” Allen’s blood ran cold. He bolted down the stairs to find Camile arranging flowers and Terence reading the papers in the living

Allen bolted from the stifling manor. A wave of anguish pressed on his chest as though his heart was squeezed. He wandered aimlessly, and somehow, he ended up at the banks of Moonlight Lake. For Allen and me, it was our hangout spot—and later, a sacred place where we vowed ourselves to each other. The lake mirrored the chill of the moonlight.Allen slumped onto a large rock in dejection, his face buried in his hands. Wendy’s reminder that he had jumped to rescue her ate him up. It was true that he chose Wendy over me. Not once did he look back to find that the rogues had me surrounded. What was on his mind back then? Allen’s priority was Wendy because she was broken, wolfless, and in need of protection. Since the pack believed Sasha owed Wendy, Allen felt obliged to watch over Wendy. Allen was convinced I was strong enough to hang in there. “What have I done? Sasha is my mate…” Allen murmured in agony. The locks of memory snapped open, and the past snuck its way back

The birthday party reached its peak amid the pack’s warm wishes. The pack members took turns to present their heartfelt greetings and gifts. The air was thick with celebration. Wendy’s cheeks were flushed with excitement and alcohol, and she was an absolute delight against the flickering candlelight. When the last slow music was played, Wendy clutched Allen’s hand, her eyes tender. “Allen, I’ve had feelings for you for a long time. Will you be my mate?” She paused and took a deep breath, her voice firmer. “I want to stand next to you as your mate. For these last two years, I only felt safe when I was with you. Will you give me a chance to be by your side?” As gasps rippled through the air, every eye in the room fixed on them, bearing curiosity, approval, and a slight hunger for drama. Allen was taken aback. It never occurred to him that Wendy would lay her feelings bare in public. Despite his attempt to withdraw his arm, Wendy had a dead grip on him. Don’t go there,

Obsessing over my bond mark, Allen was dying to take me to the healer to awaken the mate bond. “Tomorrow is the full moon. We can go to the best pack healer to restore our bond.” I opened my mouth to speak of my departure, but Wendy showed up and cut me off. “Allen, it’s my birthday tomorrow. Don’t tell me you plan on missing it.” Putting her weight against the door frame, Wendy looked fragile and hurt. She could’ve been there for a while now. Allen expressed a second of hesitation. A sharp pain shot through my chest as throbbing agony spread through my entire being. We shared a birthday. It was on our seventeenth that she ingested the silver poison by accident. That day, the first thing that came out of her mouth when she woke up was, “If Sasha hadn’t tricked me into eating the poisoned berries, I wouldn’t have lost my wolf.”For once, Terence and Camile looked at me with sheer disappointment. “Just because you’re wolfless, do you have to be jealous of Wendy? She’s
