I took the elevator to the penthouse. Somehow, Ada seems to have disappeared from the lobby. I leaned my head to the cool wall of the elevator. Suddenly, I remember what transpired downstairs and a smile suddenly made its way to my face. I touched the cheek he kissed and I can swear I felt goosebumps all over my body. The elevator dinged indicating I have arrived on my floor. I stepped out and made my way to the house. I opened the door with my keys and entered.

"Adeline!!!! Are you here?"

"In the kitchen." She shouted back while I made my way to the kitchen. As I neared the kitchen, the sweet smell of the lasagna she was making filled the air. I entered to see her bent down placing the lasagna in the oven.

"What's with the cooking? You ordered Chinese food right before I ate." I said as I took my seat on the stand.

"Well, you left me here with nothing to do. I had to keep myself busy one way or the other. And for the food I ordered, I already ate all." She shrugged and wiped down the counter with the tablecloth.

"You're lucky Chinese isn't my favorite. But you were downstairs like 10 minutes ago. I saw you when I drove in." I asked her.

"I had to leave what I was doing and come wait for you downstairs. I couldn't trust the both of you, don't blame me for trying to be a nice friend." She said looking everywhere but at me.

"Ohh, really now?" I asked tapping my fingers on the table.

"Whatever. I was curious. So tell me what happened. Every single thing to the letter." She squealed.

*********

Adeline looked at me with her mouth slightly open. "You said yes, right? You definitely can't leave my boy hanging like that." she asked, her eyebrows rising higher.

"I thought you were mad at him." I smiled.

"I can't stay mad at the both of them, he and my twin. I love them both with every fiber of my being. Anyways, what was your response?"

"Well... I couldn't reply cause your call chose the right time to come in." I rolled my eyes.

"Ohh, shoot. I have a knack for destroying things." She made the puppy face and tried to hug me.

"Stop it, will you? I'm not sure if I would've accepted though, dad's proposal or not." I said pulling off the sweat shirt I managed to put over my top before going out.

"This is definitely one of those moments where you're trying to crack a joke and it turned out not being funny after all, right?" I lifted my eyebrows letting her know I wasn't joking. She stomped her hand on the counter and stood up.

"Okay, let's assume I believe you..." She pulled her brown hair back into a ponytail. "Can I know the reason why you would refuse his proposal or should I say your dad's proposal? You obviously like him, so why won't you just let yourself be happy for once, McKenna?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying. I like him, I'm not in love with him. I'm in love with someone else." I said.

"Are you daft? You're in love with a man who left and showed up out of nowhere after two months before disappearing again. Wake up, girl." She said.

"You have no right to judge him. My heart wants who my heart wants." The timer went off indicating the lasagna's ready. Ada pulled out the dish and placed on the counter to cool down. She leaned against the counter and folded her arms.

"Are you sure though? Are you sure Jason is still somewhere there?" She said pointing to my heart. I couldn't find it in me to say a word, maybe because I know that I'm deceiving myself. Somewhere deep inside me, I know that I'm lying to myself. I really like Dixon and I don't think Jason is the one for me anymore. I guess saying it out loud makes it just even more real.

"Look, McKenna, I understand you but you have to look deep in your heart. You'll regret it if you let this guy go. Let's forget the fact that your father asked you to date him, what do you want?" She asked looking me in the eyes.

"I like him. I do like him. He makes me feel things I've never felt before, not even with Jason. His smile alone gives me goose bumps. so, yeah, I do like him. But..."

"No buts. You know you can't fall in love with a man if you were already in love with someone else. Let fate play it's part. Don't try to hinder or stop it." I nodded and gave her a hug.

"So, let's go pick up your clothing for tomorrow." She squealed and dragged me to my room.

*********

The next morning, Friday, I forced myself to get up early so I could get a head start on today. It took me a while to sleep last night cause Ada and I were talking all through the night, I feel more closer to her than ever. I got to know more about her family and her brother, she even promised to introduce me to him soon. While we were talking last night, Dixon texted me the address of where we'll be meeting which had Adeline so happy. I wonder why she's so happy though, it's like she knows something I don't. I might well have fun while all this lasts. So, let the jolly ride begin.

I got up and made my way to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and took a 15 minutes shower. I got dressed in a light blue cotton sundress and my favorite Chanel sneakers, my long, soft blond hair gathered in a loose bun. I did a simple makeup enough to cover up the fact that I didn't get enough sleep. The clock read 7:45 as I picked up my phone from the bed. I decided not to wake Ada up since she doesn't have work today so I left a note instead.

I left the building at exactly 7:50 and made my way to the Retro's, the diner Dixon said to meet. I called Dimitri to make sure he remembers to get Liam for school and also spoke to Liam himself. I feel like I haven't seen the champ in a really long time which I have to rectify immediately.

I was there five minutes past 8 and Dixon was already waiting in a booth, typing away on his phone.

"Hey," I said when he finally looked up.

His grey eyes flickered with some unidentifiable emotions as he appraised me from head to toe.

"Like what you see?" I said before taking a seat at the opposite side of the booth and I tossed my bag on the seat next to me. He flashed his pearly white teeth at me as he smirked.

"Just thinking about how beautiful you look today. You look almost...young."

"I am young especially compared to you," I retorted smiling at him "You're practically ancient from the caveman era, I believe."

"Yes, I believe I am older and wiser than you." I scoffed.

"You do know that real wise people need not to point it out. Those who wish they were point it out often."

He smiled and placed his hand on his chest feigning hurt, "That hurts, Princess. It hurts right here." He said showing me the part that he claimed hurts. I shrugged and pick up the menu.

"Let's eat now, shall we?" He said as he picked his up too.

  • Secret Love   Epilogue.

Third Person's POV.BANG!It all happened in a split second. Dixon had turned around with a frown on his face as McKenna ran straight at him. But just as she reached him, her body jolted back into him, taking the impact of the bullet. It was the bullet that was to take his life. She took the bullet for him.One of the officers took the gun from Trevor quickly as another shot him in the leg. He let out a scream in pain. Sophie ran into the room, curious as to what caused the noise.Simon stared at the woman that came in with shock evident on his face. What was she doing here dressed as an FBI agent, he thought to himself as they stared at each other. He opened his mouth to say something, but the other agents pushed him and the others out of the room."MCKENNA!" Dixon shouted as he wrapped his arms around her, who came toppling down. Her eyes were filled with pain and tears, enough to make her u

McKenna's POV.Crying is the act of shedding tears in response to an emotional state. But after a certain threshold, even the tears runs out.My tears had long run out, and yet another sun was on the verge of setting. Another sunset without Dixon's arms wrapped around me every night when we'd go to the balcony after dinner to watch the sun disappear on the horizon and how he'd pull me closer when we played games in the living room with Ian and Liam.It had become their thing. A tradition that we never miss. I remember how Dixon would rush through meetings to make it back home in time before the sky is painted in various hues of purples and oranges. He'd kiss me softly as the last hue of orange disappeared, and I remember feeling like the happiest girl in the world.Dixon.He would have noticed her missing by now. I can't even imagine the pain and worry that he and every other person will

Third Person's POV.Everyone turned to look at the young woman who walked in like she had no care in the world with Dixon's father. Sophie knew that her coming here was a big step. The guys were intelligent, they would've uncovered the truth by now, but they don't know her mission yet.David stopped in his tracks when he saw his son. The two stared at each other, one not believing his eyes and the other thinking he doesn't want to see him. David moved closer to his son as he enveloped him in a tight hug. He couldn't believe his son was back after everything that had happened. Dixon smiled a little when he saw the exchange. Even though his dad never admits it, he knew how much he missed Leo. Luke saw red, anger coursing through every vein in his body. Sophie was the one that kidnapped her. What the hell was she doing here?"What are you doing here? Where did you take Kenna?" Ian said, his voice dripping with anger and hatred. "Wh

  • Secret Love   Chapter 61

McKenna's POV.I opened my mouth to say something, but no words could form. The pain shooting from the back of my head also isn't helping matters. I watched as she walked to Trevor and placed a chaste kiss on his lips."What are you doing? I don't want my girl thinking we have a thing." He turned to me, an innocent smile on his face, but I knew better. "Don't worry, baby. I'm all yours."What the hell is he saying? He ran his finger down my cheek to my neck. Itried fighting him off, but I couldn't. His touch made my skin crawl, and I did the next reasonable thing I could think of at that moment. I spat on his face.He closed his eyes, letting my saliva trail down the side of his face. He laughed as he wiped it off. My face turned to the side as a harsh slap landed on my cheek. Another kick landed on the side of my stomach, making my insides churn. I swallowed my tears. If they think they can brea

McKenna's POV.My body hurts. I could feel the pain shooting at every single muscle in my body, my head pounding and some liquid flowing down my face. My hand reached out to massage my throbbing temples trying to alleviate some of the pain, but frustration coursed through my body at the inability to move.'Ugh, my head hurts.'I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was in a dark room except for the light peeking through the small window at the top of the room. I looked around the room for a way out, but there's nothing except the window. What am I doing here? How did I get here? I can't remember anything. Think, Kenny. Think. The only thing I seem to remember was the restroom and Sophie. My eyes seem to widen as I finally realized what happened. Yes, Sophie brought me here."Sophie!!! Sophie!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. My head hurts, but I need to talk to her. I'm sure she has he

  • Secret Love   Chapter 59

Dixon's POV.I feel so happy and complete sitting here with Leo like old times. Seeing my brother after so many years has fulfilled me in more ways than one."She's a keeper then?" He asked me some minutes after McKenna left for the restroom. I looked up at him and smiled."Yeah, she is.""I'm proud of you, baby bro. You have no idea how much pride and joy I felt whenever I see you on television.""That weirdly made me feel good." I laughed out. I watched as his countenance changed within seconds. I know that look. He's beating himself up again."I'm sorry, Dix. I should have been there for you when you needed me the most. I should have believed in you sooner. I should've known you're strong enough to fight the disease. I shouldn't have walked out on you that day. I shouldn't---""You really need to stop apologizing. It's all behind us now.

  • Secret Love   Chapter 58.

McKenna's POV.I stared at the building in front of me in disbelief. I can't believe Dixon brought me here. I took my eyes off the building to look at him. He had both hands in his pockets as he stared in concentration at the building."A rehabilitation center?"He shrugged his shoulders before moving closer to the building. I placed my hand on his biceps to stop him. I can't, for the life of me, understand why he brought me here."What are we doing here, Dixon? You said we were going somewhere. I didn't know you were bringing me to a rehab center?""You don't want to come? We could go back if you want. I only came because you promised to come with me." His eyes looked sad as he said that. My brain seemed to receive some signal as I remembered the promise I made him."It's okay. I'm sorry you went through all that. I could go with you if you don't mind."

  • Secret Love   Chapter 57.

McKenna's POV."Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite cousin."Dixon turned to him, anger emitting from him as he squeezed my hand.I placed my hand on his biceps, giving it a little squeeze, to calm him down. I don't want him getting angry at this event. It's supposed to be our breath of fresh air considering everything we've been through recently."What do you want, Trevor?" Trevor sipped his drink like he had no care in the world. The disgusting smirk on his face irks me to my bone, making my skin crawl."Can't a man be happy for his cousin? I came to celebrate with you. Congratulations on opening a new office, Dix.""Don't you fucking dare call me that!! You have no right." I can see the vein on his neck at this point. He's angry. I just hope he doesn't have a tantrum again. I looked at the man standing in front of me. He had a nasty smirk on his face and a glass with whiskey in his hand. I can't
