Liam

“Lily! Wait!” I yell out to her as she storms out of my office. I want to run after her, but my feet won't let me. I am still in some sort of shock. Even if I chase after her, this isn’t a damn romantic comedy. I don’t have anything witty or charming to say, nor will I be able to rescue or sweep her off of her feet in this instance.

I continue pacing around my office. The walls are closing in and it feelslikeI’m running out of air, literally. I tend not to have regrets about my actions, but this is a disaster. What began as a fling with the utmost of possibilities, has quickly turned into a full-blownnightmare. I can’t believe she’s pregnant? She told me numerous times she was on birth control. Or at least she said she was. Or could she have lied? And if she did, why would she do that? Why didn’t I use a condom every single time? All the women I have had in my bed, and I am always careful. I know better. Such an amateur move. You’re a fucking idiot, Liam!I say to myself.

There it is. The tears begin falling uncontrollably as I recall every single moment we had spent together in Paris and back here in New York.“Please Lily, you've got to make it out of this for me. I'm never gonna be able to forgive myself if anything happens to you or this baby.” I sob quietly. I grab her hand, squeezing it lightly as I run my thumb across her knuckles and squeeze it once more, hoping it'll somehow convey all of my love and support towards her.“Please, keep fighting. Please. For us..for me. Please.” I mumble through the lump forming in my throat as I stare up at her with tear filled eyes, pleading for her to stay alive and well, despite how scared and desperate I feel right now. I bring her limp hand to my lips and kiss it gently.I try my hardest to memorize every little feature of her face. Her hair, those lovely curls cascading down her face and hiding her peaceful expression. Her eyelashes fluttering occasionally, her rosy cheeks that always seem to light up any

LiamGoddamnit! My nightmarish week just went from bad to hellish. I sit in the waiting room of the hospital, head in hands as I wait for the doctor to return and give us a report on Lily’s condition. She was knocked out cold by Dean’s shove earlier and bleeding from a wound in the back of her head. I’m out here fearing the worst and hoping for the best. Hoping neither her or the child is seriously harmed. From my little knowledge of medicine from movies and a few books, this looks as bad as it can get.Dean continues to pace around while he waits, looking anxious and tense. His furious groans can be heard as he approaches the receptionist desk with his usual scowl.“Why are they taking forever in there?” He asks angrily, voice filled with anger and frustration.“You’re gonna need to be patient sir. The doctor should be right out any moment now,” the lady at the front desk says calmly, despite the obvious tension that permeates the air. I see her force a smile to her lips to try to ca

“Neither do I. But we had an agreement. You had three days to get your shit together and guess what?” He glances at his watch and scoffs, “It’s been three days already.”I stand up and walk over to him. “Dean, let me talk to Liam alone. Give us a little privacy, please.” I plead, reaching out and grasping his wrist.Dean pulls his arm free and glares at Liam. “There’s no need for that. He looks like he’s got his mind made up already and nothing you say or do is gonna change that. So let’s hear it, Liam. What’s it gonna be?”“Dean!” I shriek. “Please.”Dean ignores me completely, his gaze still locked firmly on Liam. “No. I’m sorry, Lily. But I’m not leaving until I get an answer from him.”Liam stays mute and his silence angers Dean even more. From the look on Dean’s face, he just might snap any second. And having witnessed Dean’s anger firsthand many times, it terrifies me.“Say something, Liam. Don’t play dumb with me!” Dean yells, slamming his fist into the table.“Let me handle th

LilyAll of the confidence I had gathered on my way here dissipates as I stand in front of Liam’s office. My hand fumbles with the doorknob as a million and one possible outcomes swirl through my mind. It’s near impossible for my world to crumble any further should he choose to reject me and this baby, which looks like the most likely outcome. If he had changed his mind, he would have reached out already. The dead-end silence between us is more than enough proof of his continued rejection. It can’t get any worse, can it?If there’s a slim chance, even a one in ten thousand chance, that Liam feels for me what I feel for him—which until the pregnancy felt like a certainty—then I’d take it. I’d give it one last try. One last chance to try and talk some sense into him. Blowing a breath through my teeth, I push open the door and step inside.I find him standing behind his desk looking out the window at the city streets below. I stand quietly for a moment watching him as he watches the traf

LilyArecurring cycle in my life is finally complete again, and you can pretty much guess what it is already. Only this time, it happened a lot faster and it hurts a lot more than it ever has. Meet some handsome dude and force myself to hate him. Eventually he sweeps me off my feet and I begin to make fairytale dreams of happy ever after with him, and then he takes those dreams and rips them into pieces along with my heart and soul. The cycle just never ends. Christie keeps telling me I’ll get it right eventually but right now, there’s little evidence to convince me that I’m not cursed or something.Maybe I’m Snow White– and my mom’s not my actual mom– but my stepmom, and she’s placed a curse on me that keeps making me have bad luck with men. Maybe I’m just terrible at making choices generally, but whatever it is, it’s left me with nothing but heartbreak and pain so far. My sobs fill the room as I stare numbly into the darkness around me. My dress and the bed sheets are soaked from te

“You shouldn’t be here sir. This is your last chance before I call security!”Brielle, my receptionist says shakily standing at a distance behind him.He snarls something in a language I don’t understand before turning back to me, his eyes seething with barely contained rage.“It’s alright, Brielle. He’s a friend.”I say slowly stepping around my desk to stand in front of Dean. His eyes are still burning holes in my skull, I can feel it but I keep my gaze on Brielle.“Are you sure sir? I could call security or the police if you want me to.”I force a smile to calm her worries. “No thank you, Brielle. That won’t be necessary.”“Are you certain sir?”“Yes. You can return to your desk now. Thanks.”I watch her leave the room before turning back to Dean. Before I do a full pivot, Dean swings a heavy right punch across my face and my head violently swings to one side. I stumble back, still able to keep my balance. I stay crouched below for a moment, attempting to register the impact of the b

“So what are you saying? You don’t want the baby?” I ask, glaring at him with disdain and heartache. He doesn’t respond and the silence between us stretches for what feels like hours. I watch as he turns his gaze away from me, looking at the floor, then back at me. He reaches toward me, takes both of my hands in his, and holds them tight. The intensity of my emotions causes the tears to well up in my eyes. I blink rapidly in hopes that they will stop, but they only become more uncontrollable. I let out a sob of anguish and drop my face into my hands. When I look up, Liam is watching me with wide, shocked eyes.“Oh, Lily…Come here, please.”He pulls me in towards himself and wraps his strong, comforting arm around me.“You are so important to me, you have become so much more in my life these past months. I need you.”His voice breaks slightly as he continues to rub my back and stroke my head gently.“ Truth is, I guess I want a family someday, but I have not dwelled on it that much. I don’

“Can we go in now or do you want to stand here staring at the door for a little longer?”He asks in his usual joking tone. I laugh and shake my head.“I want to stare at you if you don’t mind.”“On the contrary, I don’t. But I think you can catch a better view of me in my office.”He winks at me and I blush bright red before leading the way to his office, feeling giddy and happy, all worries from a moment ago gone in a flash. I sit on the couch across the room from his desk as he closes the door and comes to sit beside me.“How have you been?”He asks.“Not good. You didn’t call or text all weekend, no fair.”“You said you needed some time with your friend, Christie. So as hard as it was for me, I had to respect that and keep my distance.”“I needed time with Christie– doesn’t mean I needed time away from you.”“I’m sorry princess.”He says, inching his hand closer to mine. He locks his hand with mine and holds it tightly, giving it a reassuring squeeze.“I’m sorry I stayed away for so long
