Chapter 4

Helena’s POV

“I-I’m fine, once I get to work I’ll be alright.” I stuttered and was quite surprised by what he said.

“If you say so, follow me.” He commanded and we both walked to his study.

“Take these files, most of the things we will be working on today are in there, I want you to go through them and tell me what you think of or any more ideas to add to it, make that snappy.” He always sounds like he is in a haste or something.

“I am not like some weakling who is always late to do something, hurry up so I can go to work early.” He gave me a glare while spitting those words. I just hope he wasn’t referring to me though.

“I’ll check them now.” I sat on a brown couch in his study room, a stool was close to the couch so I placed the files on it and took them one after the other to go through them.

This arrogant man is really making plenty of sales in his company, here are records of goods sold millions. He is indeed a lucky man.

“Mr Manchester, I think I have an idea to add to this collaboration.” I affirmed and he immediately stood up from his chair and walked to where I sat.

“Good, so what do you have under your sleeve?” He asked.

“I think if we meet this Wild Empire and make them sign a contract with us and we both merge our products together, then both companies will have surplus profits and our company….”

“That's enough and what you said is brilliant, I haven’t thought about merging with Wild Empire Company.” He stopped me halfway.

How pathetic can he be, you need to see how stupid I look, like someone who talks too much.

“Make arrangements on how to meet with them, so we can talk about the business. You can leave now.” He sounded so strict with his thick tone.

“Okay sir.”

“Yeah. And one more thing.”

I turned to look at him to listen to what he was about to say.

“Did you later get in? Because I drove out while you were still banging your gate.” He spoke.

Does it mean that Mr Manchester saw me when my stepmom came outside and slammed the door on my face? Nah he drove out immediately if I can remember.

“Miss Helena!” He snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Ohh, y-yes I got in, thank you sir, s-sorry I forgot to thank you properly.” I stuttered, I can’t start pouring my life history to him. He could probably sack me for sure. So it’s better I lied.

“You can leave now.” He looked quite pissed, no one will also know if he is pissed or not, he has never let out a smile.

I arranged the files I’ll use for work today and took my bag. “See you at work, sir.” No response. How annoying can he be? I hung my bag properly on my shoulder and walked out.

Thank goodness he didn’t even ask me to join him to work. Second day of work and this man is already on my nerves. Who knows if he acts this strict to his wife or he hasn’t even seen a wife yet because of his arrogant and bossy character. Who would want to marry a man like that? Even if he looks so hot. I rolled my eyes.

I finally walked out of the street and booked a ride to work. Getting into my office to have a little peace before he comes.

“Miss Helena, my office. Now!”

No way, how did he get here so quickly. His cold voice rang through my ear, causing goosebumps all over my body.

“Mr Manchester, you sent for me…”

“Do you think you are smart? What’s all this!” He fling a set of hipped files all over me. There were the same files he told me to work on yesterday.

“I told you not to photocopy!” He added, his cold stare brought sparks to my spine.

“Sir, I did not photocopy any of this, I typed them just as you asked me too.” I tried to defend myself, because that was the work that made me sleep outside yesterday.

“Oh, so now I can’t see right? No one can outsmart me Miss. I’ll let this slide but next time you will pay dearly. Clean up this mess and get out.” He spat so rudely.

How cold can this man be, his cold voice is something I can’t even talk about. I have heard enough from my stepmom, now this. So horrifying.

I picked up the papers.

“Any other thing sir.” I asked and forced out a little smile.

“Have you sent Mr. Boltman the email about the meeting and business proposal?” He asked, going through a file. He didn’t even care to look at who he was talking to.

Rude.

“I am just coming in sir, I’ll send it to the company once I leave here.” I replied, still holding the files he flinged at me.

“Drop the file and leave.” His attention was still built on the files.

Is the file still of any use, you would have just told me to throw them away in the waste bin. Arrogant man. I rolled my eyes mentally.

“Okay sir.” I dropped them immediately on his desk and left.

I walked back to my office and sat on my chair feeling exhausted already.

I quickly emailed Wild Empire about the business proposal and they agreed to have a meeting with us. At least this lightened up my mood a little.

The problem now is how to walk into his office to look at that cold face again and tell him about their approval or better yet, I just forward the email to him.

Better. That would save all the trouble.

My telephone rings..

“Hello?”

“Miss Helena.”

What does this man want from me, can’t I have my peace?

“Mr Manchester.” I replied.

“I want to see you in my office.” He ordered and disconnected at once.

This man wants to see my end.

I knocked and he let me in.

“Now that Wild Empire has agreed to have a meeting with us. I want you to make an arrangement for it, we will have the meeting tomorrow at the conference hall.”

“Okay sir.”

“You will inform them that the date is tomorrow.”

“Yes sir.”

“You may leave now.”

I left his office and walked back to mine.

I was done with what Mr Manchester had asked me to do and it was lunch time.

I haven’t been so familiar with most of the employees so I went to the cafeteria alone. I was done so I left back to work.

Closing time came quickly and I didn’t have much work to do for the day so I closed. I called Lisa on my way out.

“Hey Lisa.”

“Lena, what’s up?” She answered.

“I am good, just a bit stressed out.”

“You are done for today?” She asked.

“Yes I am, I’ll go over to my place first to see how things are there.” I replied.

“Must you go there, why can’t you stay with me?” She sounded pissed.

“Lisa, you know I need to go there.”

“Alright fine, I’ll catch you later.” We both disconnected.

I went back to the gate I was banging on last night. I pushed it and it opened.

Whew!

I walked in and on my way to the sitting room I met Mrs Grace, my stepmom.

“Good evening, mom.”

“Did I tell you to come back? Why are you here?” She sounded rude.

“Mrs Grace, I know I passed my curfew, that was the reason I slept outside but now I am home 2 hours before my curfew. Why will you tell me to leave?” I never realised I was at the top of my voice.

“Who gave you the guts to talk to me in that manner? Huh!” She sparked.

“I am sorry.” My eyes were on my toes. I remembered dad's words. I should never raise my voice at her but this is unfair.

Immediately I turned my back away from the house. I walked out quickly holding my tears not to fall. I played deaf ears to the remaining words she has to say.

I booked a ride and drove down to Lisa’s place.

“That woman is a bitch, she doesn’t deserve to live.” Lisa was ready to tear her down with her words.

“She got me married to someone I don’t even know or haven’t seen. How much more does that woman want from me?”

I cried to the point where tears weren’t dropping again.

“It’s okay now Helena, go have a bath, I’ll tell my maid to prepare something for you to eat and you’ll go to bed, you don’t have to cry Helena.” Lisa rubbed my back and comforted me.

I cleaned my face harshly. “I will take what belongs to me, they should just hang in there for a while.” I looked so pissed that my face could turn red.

I really will fight now.
