Chapter 2

Author: Blaze Ember
Rosalie's patience was running thin.

She made a quick call, and in less than ten minutes, two men carrying black suitcases walked in. It was a professional hacking team.

"Crack this account for me," Rosalie ordered.

She sat down on the only chair that was somewhat clean and lit a cigarette.

I watched as they connected data cables to my phone.

As rows of incomprehensible code began flashing across the screen, panic washed over me. That phone was my life. Those were my memories.

I lunged forward to grab the phone, but one of Sebastian's bodyguards kicked me square in the stomach.

"Ugh…"

I curled into a ball on the floor, breaking out into a cold sweat from the pain as the bits of filth I'd just swallowed threatened to come back up.

Yet, I kept muttering, "Don't touch my journal… Don't touch it…"

The hacker worked for a moment, then frowned.

"Ms. Vaughn, the phone's operating system is ancient. Plus, it has multiple layers of encryption. If we try to brute-force it, we'll have to wipe the local storage to bypass the security restrictions."

Rosalie blew out a ring of smoke, her eyes as cold and emotionless.

"Wipe it," she ordered.

Those words struck me like a bolt of lightning. I threw myself forward like a feral animal and bit down hard on her shin.

"No! You can't wipe it! Please, I'm begging you! There are pictures in there! You can't delete them!" I screamed through clenched teeth, sinking them deep into her skin.

Rosalie winced in pain and kicked me away.

My back slammed hard against the corner of the wall, and the metallic taste of blood rushed into my throat.

The screen flickered as a progress bar started moving at lightning speed.

"Formatting local data…"

Watching that progress bar was like watching a countdown to my own execution.

"Don't… Please don't…"

A raspy, broken wheeze came out of my throat as I clawed my way across the floor toward the phone.

Sebastian stood to the side, stoking the flames. "Rosie, look at how anxious he is. There's definitely proof in there of him running off with the money back then, or maybe some love letters from his sugar mommy. You have to wipe it and get to the bottom of this."

"Formatting complete."

The screen went black for a split second, then lit up again.

I stared at the empty photo album, feeling as though my chest had been hollowed out.

Everything was gone now.

My lips parted, but no sound came out. It felt as though a massive chunk of my soul had been ripped away in that instant.

After that, they forcibly logged into my Facebook account.

The hacker handed the phone over to Rosalie, and the very first status update popped up on the screen.

It was an entry from seven years ago, which I had set to private so only I could see it.

"Today, I went to the black market to sell my blood, hoping to scrape together enough cash for Rosalie's surgery. It hurt, but when I think about her surviving, the pain just disappears."

Standing right behind Rosalie, Sebastian was quick on his feet. He snatched the phone right out of her hand.

"Ugh, it's just spam advertisement." He tapped the screen in rapid succession, and several prompts popped up.

"Confirm delete?"

"Yes."

Rosalie was looking down, inspecting the wound on her leg, and missed the text on the screen entirely.

"What did you delete?" she asked.

Sebastian handed the phone back to her with a perfectly natural smile. "Nothing. Just some junk ad and corrupted text. This phone is such a piece of crap. It must be riddled with viruses."

I looked at the deletion prompt, and the final glint of light in my eyes vanished.

That was my proof that I had loved her. It was the final shred of dignity I desperately wanted to protect, even after losing my mind.

Now, that was gone, too.

I slumped onto the floor, staring blankly at the dark patches of mold on the ceiling. I had absolutely nothing left in this world.

Rosalie scrolled through the phone for a while, her brow furrowing tighter and tighter.

Aside from a blank slate, there was absolutely nothing in there.

"Theodore, where did you hide everything?"

She walked over, standing over me to demand answers.

I didn't react. I lay there motionlessly, yet my indifference enraged her.

"Fine. You want to play dumb? Let's see how long you can keep up the act."

She turned around and barked at her assistant outside, "Bring in the livestreaming equipment."

  • Security Question: My Only Love Is You   Chapter 12

Three years later, I was running a modest flower shop in a small, sun-drenched coastal town down south. The weather was beautiful, and the ocean breeze carried a crisp, salty tang.Even though I hadn't completely recovered from my illness and still struggled with my memory every now and then, I made sure to water the plants every morning and neatly prune the thorns off the roses. Most importantly, Isabelle was right there beside me, helping me move the heavy planters. The dangerous air that used to radiate off of her was completely gone, replaced by tender affection."Theodore, you doing okay? Go grab a glass of water," she said with a smile, wiping the sweat from her brow.I shook my head and pointed toward the front of the shop. "Isabelle, that strange lady is back again."Right outside our door, under the shade of a sycamore tree, sat a homeless woman. Her hair was prematurely gray and matted, her skin was caked in grime, and she wore a tattered shirt. She came by every sing

Isabelle had kept her eyes glued to Sebastian the entire time. The second he lunged toward me, she moved.Even with all her injuries, her reflexes were lightning-fast. She threw herself in front of me, raised her leg, and delivered a brutal kick straight to Sebastian's abdomen.A thud sounded as Sebastian flew through the air like a rag doll, sailing a good ten feet before crashing heavily into the massive champagne tower.Glasses shattered across the floor, and Sebastian collapsed into the sea of broken glass, wailing in agony. The police swarmed the venue once more. But this time, they were here for Sebastian.Facing charges of grand larceny, aggravated assault, and defamation, he was going to spend the rest of his life behind bars.Rosalie looked as if her strength had failed her as she collapsed onto the ground before me.The high-and-mighty CEO was reduced to a sobbing mess, crying like a toddler who had lost her favorite toy."Theodore, I was wrong! I'm so sorry. Hit me,

The screen instantly mirrored the phone's display, causing every single person to hold their breath. The security prompt read, "Who is my one true love?"In the text field, the typed answer wasn't Rosalie, nor was it Rosie, and it certainly wasn't the name of some wealthy heiress. There was only a single word, searing itself into everyone's eyes."Deceased."The entire room plunged into a suffocating silence. It was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.As I stared at the answer, the dam inside my mind finally broke, and my tears streamed down my face unchecked. At that moment, my memory fully returned. I remembered everything.I remembered the searing heat of the fire, the agonizing pain of selling my kidney, and the despair of being misunderstood.I rocked on my feet, slowly pushing myself up from the floor, and wiped a smear of blood from my face.I looked directly at Rosalie. My eyes were a terrifying, hollow void, completely drained of any trace of affection."Rosal

Just as my consciousness began to blur and a blood-red haze filled my vision, the screen suddenly went black. The room erupted into a frenzy of murmurs.A moment later, a new video flickered to life.It wasn't the footage of Isabelle being attacked. It was the surveillance footage from a hospital corridor seven years ago.The picture quality was a bit grainy, but it was clear enough to recognize every single face.In the video, I stood in front of a doctor, frantically clutching his white lab coat."Doctor, please, you have to save Rosalie. I don't have any money left, but I can sell a kidney… I'll sign any contract you want. Just save her. You can have my life if that's what it takes."Then, the scene cut to another angle.I was lying in a hospital bed, looking incredibly frail after having just come out of surgery.Sebastian walked into the room. He reached right under my pillow and pulled out a debit card, the one holding every single dollar I had scraped together from sell

My hands trembled violently as I gripped the microphone, though it felt unbearably heavy. The crowd below was a dark, suffocating blur.Countless eyes stared up at me—some full of mockery, some indifferent, and others gleaming with malicious joy.I parted my cracked lips, my voice coming out raw and raspy as I began to recite the script Sebastian had given me the night before."I-I'm Theodore Langley. I'm a shameless scumbag…"Every single word felt like a barbed wire tearing its way out of my throat."Years ago, I stole the money meant for Rosalie's surgery and ran away with someone else…"The crowd erupted into a chorus of boos and jeers.Eager to suck up to Rosalie, someone grabbed food scraps from a nearby table and hurled them at my face."Get off the stage! You make me sick!""Have you no shame?"A piece of fruit rind struck me square on the forehead. The sticky, red juice leaked down my face, and it looked much like blood.Halfway through the speech, a blinding heada

The engagement party was held at the most lavish seven-star hotel in the city, and the blinding glare from the crystal chandeliers made my eyes ache.I was clad in an ill-fitting server's uniform. The sleeves were a bit too short, exposing the dense cluster of needle tracks scoring my forearms. They were the scars left behind from all the times I had to sell my own blood just to scrape by these past few years. The guests were dressed to the nines, glasses of red wine in hand as they mingled. The moment they saw me walk in, a wave of hushed whispers rippled through the crowd."Is that Theodore? God, how did he end up like this?""I heard he went totally nuts. Now, he's working as Ms. Vaughn's personal servant.""Talk about payback. Remember how arrogant he used to be?"Their mockery crashed over me like a tidal wave.Keeping my head down, I held a serving tray and moved mechanically through the crowd.Meanwhile, Sebastian was dressed in a pristine white custom suit worth milli

The distant wail of sirens grew louder and closer, piercing through the chaotic noise of the complex.Hearing them approach, Isabelle stiffened for a second. She glanced back at me, letting go of the broken neck of the bottle. "Theodore, put your hands up. Don't give them any reason to mistake you

Isabelle Langley looked like a woman who had just crawled out of the trenches of hell and had absolutely nothing left to lose. Before the two bodyguards could even register what was happening, she was already right in front of them. She swung a heavy iron pipe with a deafening whistle, slamming it

Rosalie wasn't done venting her rage. She picked up the cracked phone again, the screen still illuminated with that same security question, "Who is my one true love?"She shoved the device right in front of my soaking wet face, her eyes dark and menacing. "Spill it! What is the answer?"As I look

To humiliate me, Rosalie started a livestream across all major social platforms. The headline was jarring—"Tracking Down the Runaway Scammer: The Pathetic Reality of the Langley Family Heir".The second the stream went live, the viewer count spiked. After all, Rosalie was now a rising tech mogul,
