Chapter 23: Hudson's promise

The apartment was dimly lit, with a heavy atmosphere hanging in the air. Annette sits on the couch, her face etched with worry, staring at her phone. Her heart couldn't take the distress in Cassie's voice as she ended the call. Her work was long forgotten as Hudson entered the room.

"Miss Zachary, Miss Zachary, Miss Zachary," Hudson called out but got no response from Annette as she was lost. I thought, "Annette!" Hudson yelled, and Annette immediately turned to face him, her confusion evident in her eyes.

"Yes?" She answered, giving him her full attention

"I have been calling you for the past few minutes. Where is your head at?" Hudson asked, his angry gaze focused on Annette.

"It's nothing. What's the issue?" Hudson asked.

"It's nothing. Please just let it go," Annette said as she turned to glare at him. Fighting with her would get him nowhere, so he decided on a more softer approach.

"I'm not going to stop asking until you tell me what is wrong," Hudson said as he focused his gaze
