Chapter Forty -one: Last chance

"Who am I speaking to?" inquired Mr. Thompson over the phone.

"This is Mr. McKenney," replied Hudson, causing Mrs. Thompson's face to pale. Meanwhile, her daughter seemed disinterested.

"Mr. McKenney, what do I owe the pleasure of your call?" Mr. Thompson inquired.

"I'm calling regarding the deal you wanted to make with us," Hudson added.

"I've been waiting for your call. When should I draw up the contract and bring it over?" Mr. Thompson asked eagerly.

"No need for that," Hudson replied, prompting Mr. Thompson to question why.

"Is your company already working on the contract?" Mr. Thompson asked when Hudson chuckled softly.

"No, because there will be no contract, Mr. Thompson. We won't be working with you," Hudson declared, causing a moment of silence on the phone.

"Why? You seemed interested last time we talked," Mr. Thompson said, desperation creeping into his tone.

"I don't work with bullies," Hudson stated plainly.

"I don't understand," Mr. Thompson confessed.
