Third Person's POV
Kelsey's face contorted in surprise. Patience had never shared these achievements with him.
At this moment, he felt a sudden unfamiliarity with the mate he had spent three years with.
His wolf ached with the sense of alienation, and the damaged mating bond throbbed faintly.
"Professor Malcolm, is this your student?" A cold, clear male voice suddenly cut through the air, carrying an imposing Alpha aura that made all the werewolves present instinctively restrain themselves.
"Yes," Professor Malcolm began the introductions. "This is my student, Patience. Patience, this is Mr. Cyrus Gross from the Gross Group."
At the mention of "Cyrus Gross," everyone's demeanor shifted instantly.
The Alpha of the Mandala Pack had recently passed away, and Cyrus was his successor.
Not only had he inherited the mantle of the Mandala Pack's Alpha, but he had also taken over the Gross Group.
Eager anticipation immediately lit up the crowd—making any connection with Cyrus could reap significant benefits.
"Ms. Frost, a pleasure to meet you," Cyrus said politely, extending his hand. His Alpha aura expanded steadily.
As his gaze fell on Patience, his pupils contracted almost imperceptibly.
The scent of rain-kissed grass and white roses emanating from this she-wolf stirred a faint, primal ripple within him.
Patience recognized Cyrus as the man she had encountered the other day.
Without the umbrella obscuring his features, his face was now starkly visible.
His golden hair was neatly combed back, revealing a broad forehead.
His nose was sharp and straight, and beneath his thick eyebrows lay deep-set eyes like a silent, fathomless sea, with faintly visible vertical pupils in his human form.
Though his expression was gentle, his aura was like fire wrapped in ice—warm yet intimidating.
"Mr. Gross, nice to meet you," Patience said, extending her hand for a brief shake.
The moment their fingertips touched, her inner wolf lifted its head, a strange sigh rising in her throat.
The scent was intoxicating, evoking a deep sense of belonging.
The handshake was fleeting, but both caught the unusual pheromones in the air.
Cyrus's fingers curled slightly at his side, his wolf growling softly within.
Eager to engage with Cyrus, others began approaching, their mixed pheromones causing him to wrinkle his brow.
"Professor Malcolm, let's move to our room," Cyrus suggested.
The professor agreed and, after a few words with Patience, continued on with Cyrus.
Kelsey approached Patience, his tone edged with irritation. "You entered Thornmoon Military Academy with a perfect score and graduated from there? Why did you never mention it to me?"
Patience looked at him coolly—because he had never asked.
"Does it matter?" she countered.
Before Kelsey could respond, a deafening gunshot erupted in the restaurant.
To the werewolves' heightened senses, it was like a thunderclap, instantly triggering primal instincts.
Someone drew a gun, the muzzle pointed straight at Cyrus!
Screams erupted in panic, pheromones colliding chaotically.
In that moment, Patience was roughly shoved aside, nearly thrown off balance.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kelsey swiftly leap to shield Hazel, agilely hiding her behind a screen.
It was Kelsey who had pushed her—during the crisis, he had chosen to save Hazel over her, his supposed mate,
A sharp pain pierced Patience's chest.
The already fragile mating bond tore further, the tenuous connection between her and Kelsey fading even more.
An icy coldness spread through her veins.
A stray bullet hurtled toward her. Her pupils narrowed into sharp vertical slits.
In a flash, her right hand shot up—bones crackling as her nails shot out into three-inch silver-gray claws. With a ferocious swipe, she deflected the bullet.
The metallic "clang!" echoed as the bullet sparked against her claw.
The sudden burst of her aura froze the chaos for a moment.
Kelsey glanced at her, guilt flickering across his face, and he too felt the sharp sting from the damaged bond.
When the gunshot rang out, his sole instinct had been to protect Hazel. Only after pushing Patience away did he realize what he had done.
He planned to appease her later—he knew Patience was easy to placate, readily forgiving past wrongs with a few kind words.
But the next second, his blood froze.
He saw Patience's lips move, clear and silent. "I, Patience Frost, reject you, Kelsey Hoffman."
An excruciating pain seared through his heart.
"What's wrong?" Hazel, safe in his arms, asked with concern.
"N-nothing..." he murmured, still in shock.
Patience rejecting him? He must have misseen it.
"Of course it's difficult. To put on a good performance, it's not something an ordinary pilot can do," Hazel said with a hint of pride in her voice.Normally, Kelsey would have praised Hazel. But thinking about the aerial maneuvers Patience had just performed, the words of praise stuck in his throat. Before long, the flight show began.Kelsey saw the plane that Patience had flown earlier in the performance lineup.Because the camera was far from the plane, it was impossible to see who was inside. But he had an inexplicable intuition that it should be Patience.Hazel, watching the flight show, suddenly said, "By the way, when Lionel came to see me earlier, they mentioned Patience. She even said that flying a plane is no big deal. How arrogant!"Kelsey pursed his lips and said with some difficulty, "What if she's not being arrogant?"Hazel frowned and sneered, "If someone who has never flown a plane says that, what else could it be but arrogance? Kelsey, are you trying to defend her?""
Third Person's POVA moment later, the plane roared to life.Kelsey's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Patience seated in the cockpit, visible through the transparent canopy. She wore goggles, her expression calm and resolute as she faced forward. And the plane, under her control, taxied down the runway and then... soared into the sky!Kelsey's pupils contracted sharply as he gazed up at the aircraft.Patience...She really could fly a plane!Watching the performance aircraft soaring in the azure sky, Kelsey felt a sense of dizziness.Could it really be Patience up there?Even more astonishingly, the plane executed several high-difficulty maneuvers in the air that even a layman like him knew were extremely challenging. The onlookers below burst into frequent exclamations of amazement."Speechless, are you?" Yvette taunted. "You're really laughable, thinking Patience would be jealous of Hazel just because she can fly a plane. You underestimate Patience way too much!"Kelsey's
Patience's POVThey gathered around, as if certain I was about to embarrass myself.I looked at him coldly and said, "Can't I come if I don't understand it? Or is there some threshold for this aerospace exhibition, requiring a relevant certificate to enter? I wonder what kind of aerospace certificate you have?"Lionel's expression froze. He clearly not expected my counter-question.Then, he put on a mocking smile. "Alright, you've become quite sharp-tongued after leaving Hoffman Tech just a few days ago! What, do you think Kelsey will look at you differently because of this?""Do you even know how pitiful your imitation is?"He sneered, "Hazel is a woman who can fly planes! Can you?"Kelsey's friends immediately burst into laughter.I slowly replied, "What's so great about flying a plane?"Lionel laughed even louder, as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world."Patience, you really don't understand anything at all, to say such silly words! Do you think flying a plane is as simpl
Patience's POVIn the evening, as Kelsey was handling the discharge procedures for Hazel, she noticed his sullen expression and asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?""Nothing serious, just some company matters that are annoying," he replied."I had planned to introduce Cyrus to you to help secure investments, but I ended up making things worse. I'm sorry," Hazel said."It's not your fault. I'm just glad you weren't seriously hurt, or I would have regretted it for the rest of my life!" Kelsey said with a tinge of guilt.Hazel, pleased to see the concern on his face, suggested, "By the way, there's an upcoming aviation exhibition hosted by several major airlines in a few days. You should check it out. It might offer some new business opportunities."Kelsey was aware of the exhibition and had intended to go."Unfortunately, I have to support NY Airlines that day, so I can't be with you the whole time. I'll just have to squeeze in some time to accompany you," Hazel said.As the fir
Third Person's POVKelsey called Patience and asked her to come to Hoffman Tech.Although reluctant, Patience didn't want to cause more trouble before she had completely left Kelsey, so she went there. As soon as Kelsey saw her, he immediately said, "As soon as you resigned, Harvest Investment terminated the cooperation. Did you conspire with them to get back at me?""Get back at you?"Patience laughed. "I don't have the power to conspire with Harvest Investment. The fact that they terminated the investment only means they don't see potential in that project.""But tell me, why did their Mr. Wheeler say the investment was terminated because of your resignation?" Kelsey pressed.Patience was taken aback, but she quickly understood.Harvest Investment had likely investigated her when they were considering the investment, knowing about her past achievements in the drone field. Now that she was gone and Hattie was in her place, the investment had lost its value."It's probably because the
Third Person's POV"Don't forget, you're Kelsey's mate! He's my brother, and if I say write it, you write it!" Hattie's tone grew more arrogant. She figured Patience loved Kelsey and would do anything for him. After all, Patience was always obedient.Naturally, she assumed Patience would comply this time too.Patience couldn't help but laugh, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "Don't you call Hazel your brother's fiancée? If that's the case, then get Hazel to write it for you. Isn't she the one who understands Kelsey best?""That's my business!" Hattie was momentarily speechless, then threatened, "If you don't write that proposal right away, I'll have Kelsey reject you! Just you wait, you'll be kicked out!""Fine, go ahead and make him divorce me. I'm waiting." Patience hung up the phone.Hattie stared at the receiver in disbelief—Patience had actually dared to refuse her.Hattie was determined to make Patience regret it.Kelsey looked at the project proposal Hattie had submitted.
