LOGINPOV: Kimberly
I trusted him,
That was my biggest mistake, just that I didn’t know that yet.
Six weeks before my birthday, I left the library and found three girls from the cheerleading squad blocking my path.
Valerie wasn't with them, but I knew they were acting on her orders. One of them knocked my books to the floor, scattering my notes across the hallway.
"Leave Raymond alone," one said.
"You're embarrassing him and our captain nerd." Another laughed and called me his little mathematics coach.
“If I were Valerie, I’d kick you out of the family before you drag the Rutherford’s down with you.” One old me, kicking my notes back down as I tried to pick them.
I knelt back to gather my notes and refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry. All I wanted was to find Raymond and lay in his arms. Seeing him always makes me feel better.
He had promised to meet me after practice, and I wanted to tell him what had happened just now. I crossed the campus and headed toward the boys' residence. His room was on the second floor. I knew the way without even looking.
When I arrived, the door wasn't fully closed. I was about to knock when I heard Valerie laugh.
I froze...
Then I heard Raymond too...
"Stop worrying about Kimberly. I've handled everything." He told her. My fingers tightened around the strap of my bag.
"You're sure she doesn't suspect?" Valerie asked.
“Nope... She’s too dumb to suspect a thing. I’m sure she’s home crying right now. Your girls sure know how to get her worked up. She’s such a cry baby, crying over everything.
I told her to chose her birthday for our engagement and she did. She has no idea there will be no engagement and after that night, half of her inheritance will belong to you as the will dictates. No one will take what rightfully belongs to my baby, I won’t allow it.” He told her coaxingly.
I thought I wasn’t hearing well, so I peeked in, and saw them on the couch. He sat on the couch while she straddled his hips. They were completely nude, and you can tell they weren’t just starting. They’ve probably gone a few rounds already.
My God...
How could I have been so stupid?
I couldn't move, I couldn’t even bring myself to look away. She bounced on his dick a few times before chuckling hysterically and kissing his lips wildly,
“I can’t wait to see the look on her face when we announced our engagement on her birthday and announced my pregnancy too. Mom and Dad won’t be able to say a word.” She laughed, kissing him again, and biting his lips hard.
He got a little impatient and he flipped her over and fucked her hard. She moaned loudly, not minding the open door. The floor tilted beneath me, something inside my chest cracked.
So everything had been a lie...
Every kiss on the forehead. Every whispered promise in the library. Every late-night call. All of it had been part of the plan. I hadn't been his girlfriend. I had been a placeholder, keeping the seat empty until the clock ran out.
And Valerie...
I had invited her for coffee, I had offered her my closet. I had tried so hard to be her sister, never once knowing she was sharpening a knife behind her smile.
I had been so stupid...
So fucking dumb!
I stepped back from the door, careful not to make a sound. I didn't want them to see me break. I walked down the hallway with my books pressed to my chest and kept walking until I reached the empty courtyard.
Only then did the tears come.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to walk back into that room and ask how they could be so cruel. I wanted to throw every book I owned at Raymond's face.
But I didn't...
I won’t let them see my tears, I won’t fall apart in front of my enemies. They thought I was a foolish girl who would smile and wait for a ring that was never coming. They think I’m too gullible to find out they truth.
Good...
Let them think so...
I would smile at family dinners. I would let Raymond kiss my forehead. I would let Valerie call me sister, and I would call her sister back. I would pretend to plan the party that was meant to destroy me.
And while they were busy celebrating their victory, I would find another groom. I called my father immediately, using a phone my brother’s gave me to use in case of emergency. It was a burner phone, and its untraceable.
“Dad, I accept to marry the groom you choose for me. Make the arrangements and keep it between us. Nobody must find out about our arrangement, not even mom.” I told him. Dad paused for a second,
“Are you sure about this, Kim. Once I make the call, there is no going back. Are you sure you don’t want to think it through?” he asks me.
“I’m sure dad. I’m breaking up with my boyfriend before my birthday. He cannot be my husband.” I said firmly.
“Make the call Dad, I won’t change my mind, I promise. Just don’t tell anyone yet. I want to surprise everyone on my birthday.” I lied.
“I will make the call. But I want you to know that his family is a powerful family I cannot afford to go against. There will be no going back.” He said, trying to be sure.
“My mind is made up dad, just make the call.” I said firmly, ending our conversation. I had six weeks to make my own arrangements.
I may have lost my first love, but I was not going to lose my future. Raymond and Valerie wanted a show on my twenty-first birthday. They were going to get one. Just not the one they planned.
POV: KimberlyGod, I’m finished!I’m in a relationship with a prince, like a real prince with a fucking crown on his head. He turned to me and chuckled softly, acting as though it’s not a big deal.“I’m called the Ice Hockey Prince on Campus, Sweetheart. What did you think that meant?” he asks, bringing my hand to his lips and kissing the back of my palm. How do I explain to him that I’d only agreed to be with him for fun, how am I supposed to dump him and marry the guy my father chose for me?Dump a prince? Is that even possible?“You’re zoning out on me again, Kim. Where’s is head at?” he asks me, bringing me back to the present.“How are you a prince, I why and how, and...”“Slow down, sweet pea. I was born a prince, I didn’t chose to be one, okay. And it doesn’t affect us in any way, trust me. I’m not your Ex, I don’t need you to tutor me to get an inheritance. I’ve taken over the family business since I was fifteen.” He said proudly, making me temporarily forget about my fears.“
POV: KimberlyWe returned to the booth where his friends immediately started teasing us.“Look who’s finally back!”“Should we order a room next time?” I groaned and dropped into my seat.“Can you guys stop?” One of them laughed.“Relax, Kim. We’re just happy to see our friend finally acting like a normal human being.” Caspian rolled his eyes.“Do you guys ever shut up?”“Not when you’re giving us entertainment.” I laughed, and Caspian placed an arm around my shoulders.“So, Kim,” another guy began, leaning forward. “How exactly did you manage to get this guy interested in you?And what about Raymond, I thought...”“Don’t mention that weasel in front of me.” Caspian warned him sternly, shutting him up. Could this be the guy Ray is using? Those were my thoughts and Caspian too. But he held my hand under the table, like a silent assurance that everything would be okay. I blinked as another guy repeated his question,“Really, Kim, how did you do it?” He asks.“Excuse me?”“Come on. We’ve
POV: KimberlyWe broke apart, laughing at ourselves. I buried my face against Caspian’s chest, completely embarrassed.“You’re blushing again.” He teased.“Whose fault is that?” I asked back and he laughed and kissed the top of my head“Definitely mine.” I shook my head, still smiling. When I finally looked up, his expression had changed. The playful smile was still there, but his eyes held something more serious.“Have you decided yet?” he asks me.“Decided what?” He gave me a look.“Don’t play innocent with me, sweetheart. You know what I’m asking.” My smile slowly disappeared. He was asking about us.About the question I hadn’t properly answered when he asked me to be his girlfriend. I looked into his eyes, suddenly nervous. I had spent so much time thinking of what I would say to him. And now that I’m here, I couldn’t say it.“Tell me, Kim. I want to know what you decided about us. I don’t want to be the other man,” he said, bringing one finger under chin to raise my head up.“Do
POV: KimberlyHe had never done that before. Not even when I went out with Arianna or spent the afternoon at the library. I stared at the message, wondering what had suddenly made him suspicious. Was it my dress? My unusual confidence?Or had he simply noticed that I wasn’t behaving like the desperate girlfriend he had grown accustomed to?I couldn’t afford to make a mistake now. I quickly slid down in my seat, hiding my phone from Caspian and the others, then opened Arianna’s chat.Me: Emergency. Cover for me. Send me a picture of a birthday party. Any party. I’ll explain later. Her reply came almost immediately.Arianna: ARE YOU CHEATING ON RAYMOND?I almost dropped my phone.Another message followed.Arianna: FINALLY! YOU DECIDED TO DUMP THAT FUCKING BASTARD!Then another.Arianna: HE WAS NEVER GOOD TO YOU. GOOD RIDDANCE! WHO IS THE NEW GUY? IS HE SOMEONE I KNOW? IS HE CUTE?I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing. Typical Arianna, always the Chatterbox. Even in an emergenc
POV: KimberlyCaspian drove with one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting casually on the gearshift. Every few seconds, his eyes drifted toward me before returning to the road. I caught him staring for the third time and raised an eyebrow."You're staring again.""Hard not to stare when you're looking this hot."His straightforward confession sent heat rushing up my neck. I quickly looked away, pretending to be more interested in fixing my clutch than the handsome devil sitting beside me. I wasn't used to compliments, especially not from someone like Caspian Ashford. He was the kind of guy who could make any girl nervous just by looking in her direction. Yet here I was, sitting beside him, wondering how I had managed to get his attention."Do your friends know I'm coming?" I asked, trying to distract myself from the butterflies in my stomach."Don’t worry, they won’t bother you. They've been warned. One of them owes me a million dollars." He said smugly. I turned toward hi
Kimberly'sRaymond stared at me as if he had never seen me before. His eyes traveled from my smoky eyeshadow to the silver choker, down the black dress to my heels, then slowly back up to my face. For a second, something flickered across his expression. Then it hardened into a frown."Why are you dressed like that?""Like what?""Like that." He waved a hand in my direction, careful not to come any closer. "That outfit doesn't look good on you, Kimberly. It's too much."Too much. He hadn't blinked in ten seconds."You never used to care about your looks or your clothes," he went on, eyeing me suspiciously. "Why now?"My heart skipped, but my face stayed calm. I had spent two years learning how to hide things from a man who was hiding everything from me. I could manage it with a sore throat."Maybe I got tired of hiding in sweaters," I said lightly. Then I coughed into my elbow, loud and wet and dramatic. "And I'm sick, Ray, not dead. It's Arianna's birthday. She'd never forgive me if I
