Chapter 2

Author: Twilight Cloud
At ten o’clock that night, Tyler handed me a paper box and said, “Here, the necklace I promised you.”

I opened it to find a lusterless necklace made of tiny diamond chips. The label showing a price tag of two hundred and ninety-nine dollars hadn’t even been removed.

Summer leaned over and covered her mouth as she chuckled. “Lea, that necklace is perfect for you. It’s so simple and practical, unlike mine, which is way too heavy and makes my neck ache.”

I calmly closed the paper box. “Yeah, that’s fine. It really would be a waste to give something so nice to me.”

Tyler’s brow furrowed, and he looked at me skeptically. “Why are you speaking in riddles today?”

Clearly displeased, Tyler continued in his usual condescending tone, “Summer has been frail since she was a kid. What’s wrong with me looking after her a little more? Do you have to be jealous of her over a necklace?”

I didn’t even have the energy to argue back, so I just looked at him coldly. Why was it that whether I made a scene or stayed quiet, it was always my fault?

He took a step forward, his gaze passing over me and landing on my half-open bedroom door. Inside sat my suitcase, half-packed, with my transfer confirmation letter to Suisse resting on top.

“Why are you packing a suitcase?” Tyler’s face darkened. “Lea Spencer, are you playing the running-away-from-home trick again?”

He strode over, wanting to get a closer look, but I stood in his way, my expression remaining completely unbothered.

“There’s an international project coming up in a few days. I need to go on a business trip.”

Tyler stopped in his tracks, still skeptical, his frown deepening.

“We’re about to get married, and you’re still this busy? Can you even do your job? If it’s too much, just quit after the wedding. I can afford to support you. Then, you can just stay at home and raise our future kids.”

Before the words had fully left his mouth, Summer suddenly cried out softly and clutched her chest as she collapsed limply toward the floor.

“Ah!”

Tyler’s expression shifted. He spun around and rushed over to catch her. In his panic, his elbow slammed hard into my shoulder, and I stumbled back, the paper box slipping from my hand.

Summer also knocked into a nearby picture frame on her way down, and glass shattered across the floor. It was the first photo of Tyler and me together from seven years ago, a piece that used to hold immense meaning. Now, however, I thought it had shattered right on cue.

“Summer! What’s wrong?” Tyler was in such a panic that he didn’t even notice he was stepping on the broken glass.

“Tyler, my chest hurts. I can’t breathe…” Summer said, leaning weakly in his arms.

Tyler picked her up in one swift motion and lectured her with concern, “I told you you shouldn’t overexert yourself when you’re not feeling well! Why do you always have to push yourself?”

I saw how worried Tyler was and found the whole scene ironic. Last month, I had worked nonstop until a high fever triggered myocarditis, leaving me curled up in bed from the crippling pain, yet Tyler didn’t even check in on me.

He simply remarked, “Why are you so weak? Just stay hydrated, and you’ll be fine.”

Now, all Summer did was take a couple of big breaths, and he reacted as if she was about to die.

Summer leaned against his chest and looked at me weakly. “Tyler, I’ve decided on the wedding favors and the officiant’s schedule according to my preferences… You won’t be mad at that, would you, Lea?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Tyler took it upon himself to answer on my behalf. “What would she be mad about? You fell sick working yourself to the bone for her wedding. She should be thanking you instead.”

Looking at his self-righteous expression, I instantly lost all desire to say anything more.

A smug smile played on Summer’s lips, but she made herself sound even more pitiable. “Lea, please don’t get the wrong idea. I only see Tyler as a brother. A long time ago, Tyler even said he’d marry me when we grew up. Planning this wedding is just my way of making a childhood dream come true.”

Tyler’s eyes flickered slightly, and he immediately lowered his head to stop her. “Stop talking now. Save your strength. I’m taking you to the hospital right away!”

With that, he picked Summer up and charged out the door without looking back.

The door slammed shut. In the vast house that was supposed to be our home, I was left all alone. Swallowing the bitterness rising in my throat, I grabbed my suitcase and left.

A heavy rainstorm was pouring outside in the dead of night. Dragging my suitcase, I had just made it to the intersection when an out-of-control van suddenly slammed into me from the side.

Excruciating pain instantly tore through my entire body as I was thrown onto the puddle-filled ground. Immediately after, a sharp, cramping spasm surged through my lower abdomen, and warm liquid began flowing down between my thighs.

Blood stained the rainwater red, and my vision began to blur. Trembling, I fumbled out my phone and dialed Tyler’s number. The phone rang for a long time before it was finally picked up.

“Tyler…”

I was trembling so hard from the pain that my voice was barely audible.

“I got into a car accident… I’m bleeding so much… Please, come…”

  • Seek My Happiness Far Away   Chapter 11

My life in Niceland was peaceful and fulfilling. Besides taking on design projects that sparked my interest, I spent my spare time writing a book about my experiences over the years. I titled it ‘The Journey Home.’When the new book was published back home, it unexpectedly blew up. It quickly climbed to the top of the bestseller lists across major bookstores and platforms.Taking advantage of the momentum, the publisher wanted to plan a nationwide book tour for me, but I politely declined. Instead, I entrusted the publisher to handle everything on my behalf, choosing not to return in person. I didn’t want those matters to disrupt the peaceful life I had built, nor did I want any unnecessary ties to the past.Later, a reader left a comment on my social media page, asking, “Did the woman in the story end up happy?”I answered that question during an online interview.“Whether she’s happy or not isn’t really the main point anymore,” I said. “The main point is that she finally found h

After the project in Sycamore Valley came to a perfect close, I didn’t stay in the country.I turned down all the job offers from top real estate firms and politely declined my alma mater’s invitation to stay on as a lecturer. Instead, I returned to Suisse. Once I wrapped up the handover process at the headquarters, I submitted my resignation.Half a month later, with all my savings and the cat that had kept me company for three years, I moved to Niceland. It was a dream of mine I had had for a very, very long time.Back when Tyler and I were still head over heels in love, I once pointed at a breathtaking photo of the Northern Lights in a travel magazine and said to him with bright eyes, “Tyler, once we save up enough money, let’s move to Niceland, okay?”How had he responded then? He had frowned, snatched the magazine out of my hands, and tossed it aside with obvious contempt in his voice.“Why go to a place like that in the middle of nowhere? It’s cold, isolated, and boring.”N

After more than a year of intense construction, the old town renewal project in Sycamore Valley was finally completed in the spring of the following year. The once run-down and dilapidated old town had undergone a total transformation.Broad, smooth roads had replaced the old, bumpy gravel paths. Charming, modern buildings stood next to restored historic homes, and the Sycamore Greenway—a lush, scenic trail stretching through the heart of the city—became the most stunning landmark in the city.On the day of the grand opening, the city hosted a lavish ribbon-cutting ceremony. As the lead designer of the project, I was naturally the center of attention. Dressed in a tasteful white skirt suit, I stood on the temporary stage and accepted the award for outstanding contribution to the city from the mayor.Below the stage, cameras flashed incessantly amidst deafening applause. I looked at the smiling faces in the audience, the fresh green sycamore buds blossoming along the street, and the

There was no suspense about the bidding outcome for the project—I won. The design proposal from our Suisse headquarters secured the old town renewal project in Sycamore Valley by a landslide. The moment the news broke, the entire real estate and architectural design industry across the city was shocked. My name had made a powerful return to everyone’s lives after three long years. Along with it, old scandals from three years ago that had been deliberately swept under the rug were brought back into the light—Tyler’s absurd wedding, Summer’s fraud, and the Reed Group’s bankruptcy… In no time, all kinds of revelations and speculations, both true and false, stirred up a massive storm online. In the eyes of the public, I became the ‘avenging heroine’ who had endured in silence for years before making a magnificent comeback to crush the trashy ex and the deceitful woman. Tyler, on the other hand, became a total outcast despised by everyone and shamed as the ‘cheating scumbag of the centu

The bidding conference was held in the grand ballroom of the city’s most luxurious hotel. I wore a gray trench coat and had my long hair pinned up in a neat bun, looking professional and composed. As the head representative sent directly from our headquarters in Suisse, I was the last to take the stage. I opened our presentation and presented the design proposal my team had pulled multiple all-nighters to perfect. When the final slide appeared on the screen, I put down the clicker and offered a polite smile to the judges and competing firms. The room fell silent for a few seconds before breaking into thunderous applause. In that moment, I knew that project was ours. After the conference concluded, I politely declined the host’s dinner invitation and prepared to leave with my assistant and team. Just as we got to the end of the hallway, I bumped into a familiar yet foreign figure. It was Tyler. He was far thinner than he had been three years ago, and an unshakeable cloud of defeat h

  • Seek My Happiness Far Away   Chapter 6

During the day, I accompanied the project team across construction sites big and small throughout Suisse, absorbing the most cutting-edge architectural concepts and techniques. At night, I locked myself in my apartment, pulling all-nighters drafting blueprints and fine-tuning design proposals. My colleagues called me crazy and urged me not to push myself so hard. However, only I knew that I wasn’t just pushing myself—I was saving myself.I had to work intensely to numb my mind. I needed to fill the massive, gaping void left behind by the loss of my baby and seven years of devotion.I didn’t dare to stop. I was terrified that the moment I slowed down, those painful memories would rush in and swallow me whole.Three years flew by amidst countless blueprints and projects. I eventually worked my way up from a junior assistant on the project team to the head designer at our Suisse headquarters. The “Lucerne Light and Shadow” project, which I spearheaded, went on to win that year’s prest
