Chapter 3

Author: Twilight Cloud
On the other end of the line, Summer’s timid voice filtered through. “Tyler, you should check on Lea. What if something really happened to her? I’ll be fine here on my own.”

Tyler sighed, his tone turning cold. “Lea Spencer, haven’t you had enough? Summer is experiencing chest pains, and you’re making up a lie about being in a car crash just because you’re jealous?”

The pain was so bad that every breath made me tremble, and blood was flowing down my inner thighs.

The next second, the line went dead as he hung up on me. The phone slipped from my hand into the pool of blood, and I lost consciousness.

…

When I woke up again, a nurse was putting a cast on my left leg.

Seeing me open my eyes, she said apologetically, “You were six weeks pregnant. The car accident caused severe hemorrhage, and we couldn’t save the baby. Where’s your family? Why isn’t there anyone here to sign the papers?”

I instinctively reached out and touched my flat stomach. Seven years of love, along with that unborn child, had died together in last night’s storm.

Just then, my phone vibrated. It was the final digital invitation sent by the wedding planning agency. Written on the screen were Tyler’s name as the groom and Summer’s as the bride.

With a blank face, I swiped the message away, opened the app where I booked my flight to Suisse, and rescheduled my ticket—originally scheduled for two weeks later—to eight o’clock the next evening. That entire night, Tyler didn’t send me a single message.

Early the next morning, I leaned on my crutches and dragged my freshly cast leg down to the first floor to pay the bills. As I passed a VIP room, I saw Tyler combing Summer’s hair through the half-open door.

Summer tugged weakly at his sleeve. “Tyler, it’s been all night. Maybe you should go back and check on Lea. I’m worried she’s mad at you.”

Tyler sneered, looking annoyed. “She’s just putting on an act. Why bother with her?”

My grip tightened around the crutches.

Just then, Tyler turned his head abruptly, and our eyes met. His face darkened instantly, and he strode toward me.

He demanded harshly, “Lea? I can’t believe you actually pretended to be sick just to stalk me to the hospital?”

As he spoke, however, he looked over to my deathly pale face and the cast on my left leg. Then, his voice suddenly caught, and he was momentarily stunned.

He opened his mouth and was just about to ask a question when a few of his buddies came rushing down the hallway.

“Hey, Tyler! How’s Summer doing?”

The guy in the lead, Luke Graham, pushed the door open, practically shoving me along on my crutches into the room with them. The small room instantly became overcrowded.

Someone casually teased, “Seriously, Tyler, when we first heard you were marrying Lea, all of us guys were baffled. I mean, you and Summer have been close enough to share everything since forever, so we all thought she would be the bride!”

Tyler immediately looked a little uncomfortable. His gaze swept over my legs, and he took the opportunity to change the subject.

“Lea, with your leg broken right now, there’s no way you can walk down the aisle next week. The venue and guests are all set.” He stared right at me and said confidently, “Why don’t we have Summer walk the aisle in your place?”

Silence fell over the hospital room for a brief second before his buddies began hooting and egging him on.

“Yeah, Lea! You and Tyler are like an old married couple anyway, so what’s the big deal if you miss one ceremony?”

“Summer’s been in poor health since she was a kid, and her dream has always been to see herself in a wedding dress. Just be magnanimous for once and fulfill her dream.”

“You don’t want to ruin things for everyone, do you? Don’t spoil the fun for the rest of us just because of yourself.”

I looked on coldly, taking in every self-righteous face in that hospital room, until my eyes locked dead onto Tyler’s smug face.

Forcing down the lump in my throat, I smiled and burst out laughing. “Tyler, are you sure you want to swap the bride and have Summer walk down the aisle?”

Tyler frowned, assuming I was about to throw another unreasonable fit, and his tone turned impatient. “What choice do we have? Can’t you look at the bigger picture for once?”

I stared at him for two full seconds, my smile eerily calm. “Alright. When the time comes, I’ll be sure to prepare an unforgettable surprise for both of you.”

  • Seek My Happiness Far Away   Chapter 11

My life in Niceland was peaceful and fulfilling. Besides taking on design projects that sparked my interest, I spent my spare time writing a book about my experiences over the years. I titled it ‘The Journey Home.’When the new book was published back home, it unexpectedly blew up. It quickly climbed to the top of the bestseller lists across major bookstores and platforms.Taking advantage of the momentum, the publisher wanted to plan a nationwide book tour for me, but I politely declined. Instead, I entrusted the publisher to handle everything on my behalf, choosing not to return in person. I didn’t want those matters to disrupt the peaceful life I had built, nor did I want any unnecessary ties to the past.Later, a reader left a comment on my social media page, asking, “Did the woman in the story end up happy?”I answered that question during an online interview.“Whether she’s happy or not isn’t really the main point anymore,” I said. “The main point is that she finally found h

After the project in Sycamore Valley came to a perfect close, I didn’t stay in the country.I turned down all the job offers from top real estate firms and politely declined my alma mater’s invitation to stay on as a lecturer. Instead, I returned to Suisse. Once I wrapped up the handover process at the headquarters, I submitted my resignation.Half a month later, with all my savings and the cat that had kept me company for three years, I moved to Niceland. It was a dream of mine I had had for a very, very long time.Back when Tyler and I were still head over heels in love, I once pointed at a breathtaking photo of the Northern Lights in a travel magazine and said to him with bright eyes, “Tyler, once we save up enough money, let’s move to Niceland, okay?”How had he responded then? He had frowned, snatched the magazine out of my hands, and tossed it aside with obvious contempt in his voice.“Why go to a place like that in the middle of nowhere? It’s cold, isolated, and boring.”N

After more than a year of intense construction, the old town renewal project in Sycamore Valley was finally completed in the spring of the following year. The once run-down and dilapidated old town had undergone a total transformation.Broad, smooth roads had replaced the old, bumpy gravel paths. Charming, modern buildings stood next to restored historic homes, and the Sycamore Greenway—a lush, scenic trail stretching through the heart of the city—became the most stunning landmark in the city.On the day of the grand opening, the city hosted a lavish ribbon-cutting ceremony. As the lead designer of the project, I was naturally the center of attention. Dressed in a tasteful white skirt suit, I stood on the temporary stage and accepted the award for outstanding contribution to the city from the mayor.Below the stage, cameras flashed incessantly amidst deafening applause. I looked at the smiling faces in the audience, the fresh green sycamore buds blossoming along the street, and the

There was no suspense about the bidding outcome for the project—I won. The design proposal from our Suisse headquarters secured the old town renewal project in Sycamore Valley by a landslide. The moment the news broke, the entire real estate and architectural design industry across the city was shocked. My name had made a powerful return to everyone’s lives after three long years. Along with it, old scandals from three years ago that had been deliberately swept under the rug were brought back into the light—Tyler’s absurd wedding, Summer’s fraud, and the Reed Group’s bankruptcy… In no time, all kinds of revelations and speculations, both true and false, stirred up a massive storm online. In the eyes of the public, I became the ‘avenging heroine’ who had endured in silence for years before making a magnificent comeback to crush the trashy ex and the deceitful woman. Tyler, on the other hand, became a total outcast despised by everyone and shamed as the ‘cheating scumbag of the centu

  • Seek My Happiness Far Away   Chapter 7

The bidding conference was held in the grand ballroom of the city’s most luxurious hotel. I wore a gray trench coat and had my long hair pinned up in a neat bun, looking professional and composed. As the head representative sent directly from our headquarters in Suisse, I was the last to take the stage. I opened our presentation and presented the design proposal my team had pulled multiple all-nighters to perfect. When the final slide appeared on the screen, I put down the clicker and offered a polite smile to the judges and competing firms. The room fell silent for a few seconds before breaking into thunderous applause. In that moment, I knew that project was ours. After the conference concluded, I politely declined the host’s dinner invitation and prepared to leave with my assistant and team. Just as we got to the end of the hallway, I bumped into a familiar yet foreign figure. It was Tyler. He was far thinner than he had been three years ago, and an unshakeable cloud of defeat h

  • Seek My Happiness Far Away   Chapter 6

During the day, I accompanied the project team across construction sites big and small throughout Suisse, absorbing the most cutting-edge architectural concepts and techniques. At night, I locked myself in my apartment, pulling all-nighters drafting blueprints and fine-tuning design proposals. My colleagues called me crazy and urged me not to push myself so hard. However, only I knew that I wasn’t just pushing myself—I was saving myself.I had to work intensely to numb my mind. I needed to fill the massive, gaping void left behind by the loss of my baby and seven years of devotion.I didn’t dare to stop. I was terrified that the moment I slowed down, those painful memories would rush in and swallow me whole.Three years flew by amidst countless blueprints and projects. I eventually worked my way up from a junior assistant on the project team to the head designer at our Suisse headquarters. The “Lucerne Light and Shadow” project, which I spearheaded, went on to win that year’s prest
