“All right. I don’t know what debt you mean. That’s your business.”

Leonel did not seem interested in finding out more. He accepted Lyra’s answer just like that. There was no reason for him to force the woman to explain something she clearly did not want to discuss.

However, after that, his expression became serious again.

“I also want to talk about the purpose of this marriage.”

Lyra looked at him.

“To be honest, I don’t like arranged marriages like this.” Leonel leaned back in his chair. “But I respect Grandma Delilah’s decision. As long as she wants it, I will go through with it.”

Lyra said nothing. As far as she was concerned, as long as the marriage still took place, whether Leonel had a reason to accept her or not was no longer her concern.

“However, I have no intention of keeping this marriage forever,” Leonel continued. “One year after we get married, we will get divorced.”

Lyra looked at him without showing any surprise.

Leonel watched her for a moment before continuing, “As compensation, I will give you a house and some securities. After the divorce, they will all belong to you.”

Lyra remained silent.

She was not interested in the house or securities Leonel was offering. Even if Leonel wanted a divorce just a week after they got married, Lyra would surely agree.

Even so, the divorce would certainly cause an uproar and make Grandma Delilah sad. Later ... after everything was over, she would explain why there had to be an exchange like this.

“After one year,” Lyra finally asked, “I’ll be free?”

The simple question made Leonel frown. He stared at Lyra for a little longer. “Is that what you want?”

Lyra did not answer immediately. Instead, her gaze shifted into the distance, straight toward where Damien and Ciara were. The two of them were talking together, and even from a distance, Lyra could see how easily Ciara gained Damien’s attention.

Without realizing it, the corners of Lyra’s lips lifted into a faint smile. Yet the smile looked sorrowful instead.

“Yes,” she answered softly. “Free from the things that have weighed on my heart all this time.”

Leonel followed Lyra’s line of sight. He did not need to ask again to understand what the woman was looking at. His gaze lingered on Damien and Ciara for several seconds before returning to Lyra.

The corner of his lips lifted slightly. “All right.”

Leonel did not try to comfort her. Nor did he ask about Lyra’s feelings toward Damien. If the woman wanted to be free of something, then that was her business.

He rose from his chair but stopped almost immediately, as if remembering something. “Oh, there are two things you need to understand.”

Lyra looked at him again.

“First, after we’re married, mind your own affairs. I won’t interfere in your life as long as you don’t interfere in mine.”

Lyra nodded. “All right, Mr. Leonel.”

“Second,” Leonel paused for a moment. “There will be no romantic relationship between us.”

Lyra almost smiled at that. “Don’t worry. I don’t want one either.”

Leonel looked at her for several seconds. For some reason, that answer felt too easy. As though Lyra had absolutely no desire to gain anything from him.

But he did not make an issue of it. “Then we have an agreement.”

Leonel was about to leave when the sound of footsteps came from behind. Lyra turned and saw Ciara approaching with Damien.

The moment she saw Leonel, Ciara’s steps suddenly slowed. Her previously bright expression changed. She looked at Leonel hesitantly, then unconsciously took half a step back, moving closer to Damien. Her fingers immediately tightened around the man’s arm.

“Mr. Leonel,” she greeted softly.

Damien immediately noticed the change in Ciara’s attitude.

Leonel merely looked at them with a cold gaze without saying a word.

“Don’t worry. I’m here,” Damien said to Ciara.

Ciara smiled awkwardly. “I just ... didn’t expect to run into him here.”

Her tone was soft enough for Damien to catch the meaning behind her words. Leonel was known as a cold, firm man who was not easy to approach. Ciara knew that reputation, and showing a little uneasiness was enough to make Damien become protective again.

He then looked at Leonel. “What brings you here?”

“There are a few things I need to discuss with the Hart family,” Leonel replied calmly.

“I see.” Ciara smiled faintly. “Then ... what about the preparations?”

“Everything is going well.”

Ciara nodded. “My sister is truly lucky to be able to marry the person she loves. I hope ... Mr. Leonel will also be able to love me later after we become husband and wife.”

Leonel’s gaze shifted to her. For a few seconds, he said nothing. Then the corner of his eye glanced toward Lyra, who was still standing silently in her position. Then, the corner of his lips lifted slightly.

“See you at the altar, my future bride.”

Ciara fell silent.

Damien immediately turned serious. “Watch yourself, Leonel.” He instantly became wary, feeling the need to protect Ciara.

The corner of Leonel’s lips lifted slightly. Leonel smirked. “What did I do wrong, my dear little brother?”

Damien growled in annoyance. “Why did you come to see Ciara?” Damien asked. “Just to confirm your marriage?”

Leonel ignored him. Instead, he looked at Ciara for a moment before saying, “I just want to make sure of one thing.”

His gaze then returned to Damien. “Was my farewell just now actually meant for you, Ciara?”

The journey to Leonel’s private residence passed relatively quickly. Lyra did not pay much attention to the route they took because her mind was busy processing the string of events at the altar earlier. She hoped ... everything had gone according to her wishes. Damien had found his happiness, and she had no debt of gratitude left in this life. Everything was over.Lyra chose to enjoy the journey to Leonel’s home. Until the black car they were riding in passed through the tall iron gates and crossed the expansive grounds toward a magnificent mansion on the outskirts of the city center, she could not hide her amazement.“This ... is your house?” she asked unconsciously, staring through the window at the sturdy modern-classical facade of the building.“Yes,” Leonel replied from beside her, his voice flat. “Why? Surprised?”“Not really,” Lyra answered, trying to compose herself and neutralize

Damien turned around and intended to chase after Lyra, whom Leonel was carrying away from the altar. “Lyra!”Before he could get far, Ciara grabbed his arm tightly.“Damien?” she asked with a confused expression. “What’s wrong?”Damien was forced to stop, but his eyes remained fixed on the exit.Ciara’s grip tightened. “Haven’t you spent the past few days trying to find a way so I wouldn’t have to marry Leonel?” Her voice began to tremble. “You even said you wanted to take me away. So why are you acting like this now?”Damien roughly rubbed his face. His thoughts became even more chaotic. What Ciara said was not wrong, but he could not easily explain the current situation.Ciara stared at him sharply. “You said you cared about me. You didn’t want to see me marry Leonel. Now Lyra has taken my place, so why are you chasing after her instead?”Damien fell silent. Ciara’s question struck him hard. His plan had indeed been to save Ciara from an unwanted marriage. But seeing Lyra standing a

The two couples then began walking toward the altar as the wedding blessing was about to begin.Leonel walked beside Lyra with calm steps. Occasionally, he glanced at the woman beside him, who remained silent with her hands holding the bouquet.“Nervous?” he asked softly.Lyra simply shook her head. “No.” Her answer was brief and sounded so calm.Leonel did not ask anything else. He continued walking confidently with Lyra toward the altar. On the other side, Ciara linked her arm with Damien’s affectionately. She even moved closer to him, as she usually did when she wanted to get the man’s attention. However, Damien gave no response at all. His gaze was instead fixed on the woman walking several steps ahead of them. For some reason, he had felt as though he had been standing behind Lyra all this time.He did not even realize when Ciara’s fingers tightened around his arm.Damien simply continued watching Lyra’s back as she moved farther away, until the two of them reached the front of t

In her previous life, that same hand had once been extended to her. But at that time, Lyra had slapped it away because she had wanted to marry Damien so badly. If, in the past, Sofi and Paul had planned the bride swap just so Ciara could marry Damien. This time, Lyra made the path easier. This time, Lyra did not slap away the same hand that had once again been extended to her. Instead, she gripped it tightly. Lyra briefly felt the hand stiffen, perhaps because she was holding it too tightly? She didn’t know. Lyra said nothing.Just like Leonel. The man said nothing either. He simply helped her into the car before getting in and sitting beside her.Throughout the journey to the chapel, there was no conversation between them. Lyra sat calmly, while Leonel made no attempt to start a conversation either. Strangely, the silence did not make Lyra feel awkward.A short while later, the car stopped in front of the chapel. The car door opened immediately, even before Leonel got out. Lyra had n

That night, Ciara came to see Damien again. The moment he saw Ciara’s red-rimmed eyes, Damien immediately knew that the woman had been crying again.“I’m scared, Damien.”It was not the first time Ciara had said that. Over the past few days, her fear of marrying Leonel had continued to appear in various forms. She was afraid of Leonel’s cold demeanor, afraid of life after marriage, and especially afraid of losing the freedom she had always had.Damien had told her several times that Leonel would not hurt her without reason. But that night, seeing Ciara crying in front of him again, even his own conviction began to waver.“I don’t know what my life will be like after I marry him.”Ciara did not ask Damien to do anything. She even said that she did not want to make things difficult for Damien. Yet it was precisely that attitude that made it even harder for Damien to ignore her.He looked at Ciara for a long time before finally placing a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t cry.”After Ciara lef

Lyra looked at the jade bracelet now wrapped around her wrist. The stone felt cold every time it touched her skin, but after a while, she began to get used to its presence. Even now, she still did not truly understand why Leonel had given it to her.The man had not explained anything, as though his brief statement that Lyra deserved to wear it was enough of an answer. However, Lyra had no intention of thinking too deeply about it. Whatever Leonel meant, she only needed to fulfill one thing she had already promised.“Don’t take it off.”Lyra remembered Leonel’s words from a few days ago and let out a small sigh.“All right. I won’t take it off.”She gently stroked the bracelet again. For now, she would simply keep her promise. Two more days, and everything would be over.A knock on her bedroom door made her turn. “Come in.”Viona entered with several paper bags in her hands. She placed them near the door before approaching Lyra again. “Miss, I’ve separated the things that will be taken
