LOGIN“Mr. Leonel?”
Lyra tried to keep her voice calm. Although she was actually quite surprised to see the man coming to meet her. In her memories from her previous life, Leonel had indeed come to meet his fiancée a few days before the wedding.
At the time, Lyra never knew what the man wanted to give her or what he wanted to discuss. All she knew was that after Leonel left, Ciara became furious and hated her even more.
Now, the same thing was happening again.
Except this time, Lyra was the one who was his fiancée.
Leonel did not answer immediately. His gaze returned to Lyra’s hand, which was still bleeding, before shifting to the broken pieces of the figurine on the ground. “You’re hurt.”
“It’s fine.”
Lyra quickly pulled her hand back. She did not want to make this matter drag on any longer. But Leonel instead turned to one of the servants standing not far away.
“Treat her wound.”
The servant immediately nodded and was about to approach, but Lyra shook her head.
“No need.”
Leonel stared at her sharply.
“I can take care of it myself.” Lyra’s voice remained calm.
She then lowered her head and looked again at the broken pieces of the figurine scattered across the ground. The object she had carefully kept for years was now nothing more than small fragments that no longer resembled its original form.
Strangely, this time she did not feel like crying. Lyra turned her gaze to the servant. “Just throw the pieces away.”
The servant hesitated. She knew very well that the figurine was one of Miss Lyra’s cherished possessions. For years, it had always been carefully kept in Lyra’s room and had hardly ever been touched by anyone.
“Are you sure, Miss?” she asked to make sure. “This figurine ... isn’t it your favorite?”
Lyra stared at the broken pieces for several seconds.
“Just throw it away.” She took a slow breath before continuing, “I don’t want it anymore.”
The servant finally nodded and began gathering the ceramic pieces. Lyra no longer looked in her direction. Instead, she turned her gaze toward Leonel, who was still standing in front of her.
“In that case, let’s talk in the back garden.”
Leonel didnt object.
They walked toward the back garden of the Hart family home. Unlike the front garden, which was often used to receive guests, this garden was much quieter. Magnolia trees grew along the pathway, their flowers blooming among the green leaves.
That place had been one of Lyra’s favorite spots since childhood. Usually, being there helped calm her mind. She hoped their conversation could pass without any burdens.
Leonel started the conversation first. “This marriage is quite strange.”
Lyra raised her gaze.
“I was supposed to marry Ciara,” Leonel continued without beating around the bush. “She is the biological daughter of the Hart family. Yet now, your name is listed as my prospective bride.”
Lyra remained silent.
Seeing Lyra’s attitude, Leonel felt that there was something the woman was not saying.
“I have no objection to marrying anyone. This marriage is the family’s decision, and I have no reason to refuse it.” Leonel paused for a moment. “I’m just curious.”
“Curious ... about what?”
“Why you?”
Lyra looked at him.
Leonel’s gaze remained calm, but there was something that made Lyra know the man was not simply asking out of politeness. He genuinely wanted to understand the reason behind this change.
Especially since Leonel must have known about her relationship with Damien all this time. He must also have known how much Lyra wanted that marriage. Almost everyone knew.
Lyra smiled faintly. “That’s none of your business.”
Leonel did not appear offended. “It became my business because you’re my future wife.”
“If you’re worried that I’ll embarrass you at the altar, I assure you that won’t happen,” Lyra said confidently.
“Then I won’t ask any further.”
Lyra was silent for a moment before speaking again. “Besides, you need a bride to obtain your full inheritance rights, don’t you?”
Leonel’s eyes narrowed slightly. The corner of his lips lifted faintly.
“Then just focus on that purpose.”
Lyra looked at the magnolia flowers beside her. The wind moved gently, making some of the flower petals sway. In six days, her life would truly change.
It didn’t matter. At least this time ... her decision was not wrong.
She was indeed hurt by her choice. Letting go of the person she loved and watching him marry someone else was not easy. But at least this time, she could watch from a distance as the person she loved lived happily.
“It’s not only ‘why are you becoming my wife’ that makes me curious.”
Those words made Lyra turn toward him.
“Why was I also asked to keep the identity of my future bride a secret?” Leonel asked as he folded his arms. He leaned comfortably against the garden chair, but his sharp gaze remained fixed on Lyra.
Lyra noticed that gaze. The gaze of someone who wanted an answer without hesitation.
She then took a slow breath before saying, “Let’s just say ... I’m repaying a debt of gratitude.”
A bottle of perfume flew through the air and shattered against the wall.“She’s the one who made Damien act like that!” Ciara screamed with hatred. “She’s the one who made me humiliate myself in front of everyone!”There was a knock on the door, but Ciara did not answer immediately.A few seconds later, Susan’s voice came from behind the door. “Miss Ciara.”Ciara squeezed her eyes shut. “What is it, Susan? I don’t want to be disturbed.”“B-but, Miss... someone wants to see you in the family room.”“Who?”“An envoy from Mr. Leonel,” Susan answered nervously.Hearing that name, Ciara immediately opened the door and walked toward the family room. There, Paul and Sofi were already waiting for her with several men in black suits standing politely and professionally.“Good evening, Miss Ciara,” one of them greeted.Ciara folded her arms across her chest. “Who are you? And what do you want?”“Mr. Leonel has asked us to retrieve all the gift boxes that were previously sent to the Hart family
“Damn you, Lyra!” Ciara hissed in anger. Her hands clenched tightly without her realizing it. Her breathing grew heavy as she held back her anger. How could Damien just leave her like that? Even after saying that this marriage was not right, the man had actually chased after Lyra in front of everyone.Oh, God! Ciara truly felt humiliated. That morning, when her mother told her that her groom was Damien, not Leonel, she had been so happy. For the first time, everything was going according to her wishes. But why had everything turned out like this now?If it weren’t for Lyra, Damien would never have changed like that. That was it. All of this had to be because of Lyra.“Mom,” Ciara shot her mother a sharp glance. “How could this happen?”Paul and Sofi immediately approached and tried to calm Ciara down. However, before Sofi could answer, the sound of a chair scraping against the floor came from the Hastring family’s table.Delilah stood up.The old woman’s face looked much harder than b
The journey to Leonel’s private residence passed relatively quickly. Lyra did not pay much attention to the route they took because her mind was busy processing the string of events at the altar earlier. She hoped ... everything had gone according to her wishes. Damien had found his happiness, and she had no debt of gratitude left in this life. Everything was over.Lyra chose to enjoy the journey to Leonel’s home. Until the black car they were riding in passed through the tall iron gates and crossed the expansive grounds toward a magnificent mansion on the outskirts of the city center, she could not hide her amazement.“This ... is your house?” she asked unconsciously, staring through the window at the sturdy modern-classical facade of the building.“Yes,” Leonel replied from beside her, his voice flat. “Why? Surprised?”“Not really,” Lyra answered, trying to compose herself and neutralize
Damien turned around and intended to chase after Lyra, whom Leonel was carrying away from the altar. “Lyra!”Before he could get far, Ciara grabbed his arm tightly.“Damien?” she asked with a confused expression. “What’s wrong?”Damien was forced to stop, but his eyes remained fixed on the exit.Ciara’s grip tightened. “Haven’t you spent the past few days trying to find a way so I wouldn’t have to marry Leonel?” Her voice began to tremble. “You even said you wanted to take me away. So why are you acting like this now?”Damien roughly rubbed his face. His thoughts became even more chaotic. What Ciara said was not wrong, but he could not easily explain the current situation.Ciara stared at him sharply. “You said you cared about me. You didn’t want to see me marry Leonel. Now Lyra has taken my place, so why are you chasing after her instead?”Damien fell silent. Ciara’s question struck him hard. His plan had indeed been to save Ciara from an unwanted marriage. But seeing Lyra standing a
The two couples then began walking toward the altar as the wedding blessing was about to begin.Leonel walked beside Lyra with calm steps. Occasionally, he glanced at the woman beside him, who remained silent with her hands holding the bouquet.“Nervous?” he asked softly.Lyra simply shook her head. “No.” Her answer was brief and sounded so calm.Leonel did not ask anything else. He continued walking confidently with Lyra toward the altar. On the other side, Ciara linked her arm with Damien’s affectionately. She even moved closer to him, as she usually did when she wanted to get the man’s attention. However, Damien gave no response at all. His gaze was instead fixed on the woman walking several steps ahead of them. For some reason, he had felt as though he had been standing behind Lyra all this time.He did not even realize when Ciara’s fingers tightened around his arm.Damien simply continued watching Lyra’s back as she moved farther away, until the two of them reached the front of t
In her previous life, that same hand had once been extended to her. But at that time, Lyra had slapped it away because she had wanted to marry Damien so badly. If, in the past, Sofi and Paul had planned the bride swap just so Ciara could marry Damien. This time, Lyra made the path easier. This time, Lyra did not slap away the same hand that had once again been extended to her. Instead, she gripped it tightly. Lyra briefly felt the hand stiffen, perhaps because she was holding it too tightly? She didn’t know. Lyra said nothing.Just like Leonel. The man said nothing either. He simply helped her into the car before getting in and sitting beside her.Throughout the journey to the chapel, there was no conversation between them. Lyra sat calmly, while Leonel made no attempt to start a conversation either. Strangely, the silence did not make Lyra feel awkward.A short while later, the car stopped in front of the chapel. The car door opened immediately, even before Leonel got out. Lyra had n
