Should we adopt a boy?

“Stein!”

“My bad.” Grinning, he returned to his chair. He dared to look unfazed. “I was just carried away with happiness.”

“Don't do that again. At least not in the office,” I added when he raised a brow. “So, what do you need for this?”

He frowned.

“This,” I said, gesturing between us. “You gave me the money Jonas loaned you. It's not for free, is it?”

This was a test for him. I wanted to know if he would request something outrageous, as he did last time.

“A child.”

Now, it was my turn to f

KAIWould it have been better if I hadn't found out about Leon's lies? Would life have been better if I lived in the dark? Would I be happier? All morning, I'd asked myself these questions countlessly, but I hadn't gotten any good response to them because I didn't know if staying in the dark was the best option. Speeding up the adoption was a way for me to prove that I would be the best father, better than my dad in every aspect. But on the drive to the centre, I kept thinking of my plans to divorce Stein after a year. What would happen to the child then? At just three, he would be separated from the only family he had ever known.I wouldn't take him with me; that was sure, as I don't know my way with kids, but would Stein take him? Would he send him back to the centre when the divorce was finalised?I almost changed my mind, but seeing how happy Stein was, I decided to go with the flow. We would know what to do after a year. Until then, I would work to be the best father our son wo

Imelda's frown deepened.“Stein!” He finally showed up, all smiles. “You came. Brother, I've missed you!” He ran over to my side and hugged me. I stiffened at his touch. I would have avoided him, but I just wanted to see Imelda's expression. She'd hated that her son liked me when he shouldn't have. I mean, we were rivals when you think about it. As both of Jonas' sons, we would have to share his property someday. And from the looks of it, Imelda had no plans to share. Not that there would be any property to divide after I'm done with Jonas.I forced a smile, even though all I wanted was to kick him away from me. I really hated getting touched by others. The only person I tolerated was Kai. “How are you doing?” I asked as I gently pried him away from me. “I'm —”“Why did you come downstairs?” Imelda got to her feet. “Didn't I ask you to stay indoors until I come get you?”Heinrich pouted. “But —”“I need to go.” I got to my feet. “There's something —”“Can't you stay for breakfast?”

After dinner, we took a bath together and retired to bed, where we spent almost two hours conversing. It was the first time since we got married that we were talking like actual couples. I couldn't tell what was up with him, but whatever it was, I hoped it wouldn't end fast. I woke up before him and prepared breakfast. I set the alarm clock for 8 before I left, after writing him a note. He must have been tired from all the running around he did yesterday, which was why he didn't wake up at his usual time. I drove straight to the main house, a place I hadn't set foot in for almost a year now. I always went to the second house or Jonas' office whenever I needed to speak with him. The security guy at the gate was so happy to see me, and I had to spend five minutes just catching up. Even though I wasn't the best human and could be scheming whenever I wanted, I was okay to some people. As long as you don't provoke me, I have nothing with you.Imelda was waiting in the sitting room when

“Schatz?” He didn't stir at all. I closed the door gently and walked over to him. I leaned down and placed a kiss on his forehead. “Baby?” He muttered under his breath and turned. I smiled. Christ, Kai's so cute; I want to keep him locked so only I could see him. I sat on the bed and just watched him, drinking my fill of his face. He was just so cute that each time I looked at him, I felt a tug in my chest. All I wanted was for him to be by myself forever. I don't care if I lose everything. As long as he stays with me until death, I wouldn't ask for anything else. “I'll be back,” I whispered and got to my feet. Since he was such a deep sleeper, I knew it would take more than talking to get him to wake up. I stepped out of the room and closed the door gently once more before I hurried over to the kitchen to prepare dinner. I knew he would be famished since he hadn't eaten anything after the light breakfast I made. I washed my hands before I started cooking. Almost half an hour lat

STEIN The moment I disconnected, I focused on my stepmother. “So? What's wrong with your husband?” She asked, giving me that look of disdain I hated the most. “None of your business.” I threw my phone on my desk before I sat down. “I'll work on getting Jonas out before 7. You don't need to worry about him,” I lied, while keeping a pleasant look on my face. I'd be damned if I'd help him. But she didn't have to know at all. She gave me a suspicious look before she let out a sigh. “Let me know if you need my help.”“Of course.” I gestured to my door. “I would have seen you out, but I'm currently busy trying to clean up your husband's mess.” She glared, but didn't give a retort. I watched with a smile as she stormed out of my office the same way she came. With her gone, I called Mary into my office. “Sir?” “Push out as much dirt as you can on Jonas to the prosecutors. I need him detained until tomorrow. Then after that… “ I grinned, linking my fingers together. “We send him to hell

KAILeon froze. “Dad?” I called again, looking from him to the boy, who was looking at me with a raised brow. Seeing the two up close, I realised why I had thought the boy looked familiar. “Ka… Kai?” Leon blinked. “What are you doing here?”I stepped out of the lift before it could close on me. “Is he your son?” I asked in a surprisingly calm voice. Leon looked at the boy, then back at me. “Kai —”“Who's he, Dad?” The boy asked, interrupting him. “Why is he calling you Dad? Is that like a misunderstanding?” Leon shook his head. “Go in, Max. I need to speak to him alone.” The boy, Max, looked between us. “But —” “Go in!”Max sniffed, then nodded and hurried down the hallway. Leon looked at him with a guilty expression. “So, he's your son, huh?” I asked, bringing his focus back to me. He turned to look at me, and his expression shifted to anger. “What are you doing here?”I was stunned by the question. “Is that really important right now?”“Of course it is,” he gritted out in an

STEINThe night masked me as I watched him, hidden in a corner, my camera ready to take more pictures. KAIHis mouth found mine, stealing the questions on the tip of my tongue. Stein's hands were in my hair and on my jaw. He cupped my face like he was afraid I'd disappear if he let go. KAIThe rest of the week went by in a blur. By the time Friday knocked on my door, I was drained. I'd stayed awake two nights, thinking of the bloody truce marriage and how to get the fuck out of it. I wasn't like Dad, who thought we needed this. We don't. We have been surviving all these years wit
