“Sera, sabay tayo mag-lunch.”

“Ayoko.”

“May mango cake doon, tsaka mango shake.

Ayokong kumain. O

ETHAN SIERRAI don’t like Darius’ plan. I despise it. Every part of me screams in protest, telling me this isn’t the right way—telling me there has to be another option. But I’m not blind. I know the reality we’re facing. There is no other way.And so, I’m left with no choice.I have to do this. Not because I want to follow some twisted plan he laid out. Not because it makes sense. But because I refuse to lose her.Because if I don’t act now, Sera will keep suffering in silence. She will keep enduring the torment, locked in a cycle of pain that she doesn’t deserve. And that thought alone is enough to make my blood boil, to make me feel like I’m suffocating beneath the weight of my helplessness.Hindi ko na hahayaan pang mangyari iyon. Not anymore. She has suffered enough—been abandoned enough. I won’t be another person who walks away. I won’t stand by while she’s pushed further into darkness by the very people who should have protected her.I have to be with her.Not just until our pr

  • Shadows of the Heart (Ethan Sierra)   83 - Negotiation

ETHAN SIERRA“I am not. The moment you leave me hangin’, Ethan, tinanggal na rin kita sa buhay ko. Now, leave, I need to rest.” Will I really let her slip away from me? No. Hindi ko kaya.“I want to cancel my engagement with Kendra, Lo. Ayokong ituloy,” wika ko dahilan para matigilan si Lolo sa kanyang ginagawa.“We already talked about this, Ethan, don’t make me repeat myself.”I clenched my jaw. How am I supposed to convince him to stop the engagement between me and Kendra? Natigilan ako sa pagre-review ng proposal that needed to be finalized before sending it to the investors for signing contracts, when Manang Rosa knocked on my door and told me that someone was looking for me.Pagkababa ko ng hagdan ay nakita ko si Darius na seryosong tinitignan ang mga larawan sa paligid ng sala.

  • Shadows of the Heart (Ethan Sierra)   82 - Engagement

ETHAN SIERRA“Ethan! Why are you doing this to me? Kendra's voice was sharp, filled with frustration and jealousy.“Pwede ba, Kendra? I don’t have time for your bullshit!” I snapped, my patience wearing thin. I hadn’t meant to yell at her, but she had been pushing me for days, testing my patience when I had nothing left to give. I was exhausted—mentally, emotionally. Everything had happened so suddenly.Tita Sarah was gone.Sera hadn't spoken since. The shock had stolen her voice, leaving her trapped in a silence none of us could break.Sometimes, she would just sit there, staring at her mother’s coffin, tears falling quietly down her cheeks. Liam had tried to comfort her at first, but when she didn’t respond, not even acknowledging his presence, he eventually stopped trying. And n

ETHAN SIERRADays have passed and our school year has ended. I immediately went to Manila for the training. “It doesn’t mean he’s helping Gabriel Valencia, Lo. You know how close he is to his child. She’s innocent!” “Yes, she’s innocent. But that doesn’t mean you have to help them. And now you’re investing in their company. Are you fucking insane? He has the right to get mad. I invested his money in Sera’s Furnitures Company—but that money is from working hard as a trainee.

ETHAN SIERRAI felt uneasy when Sera didn’t show up at school for days. The longer she was gone, the more restless I became. So I went to her house.Manang was the one who greeted me at the door, her expression heavy with concern. “Nasa ospital sila Ethan,” she said. “Nakunan si Sarah. Pwede mo namang puntahan, pero uuwi na rin sila bukas.”Something inside me tightened.I didn’t waste time—I went straight to the hospital. But when I got there, I found myself unable to move forward.Sera sat in the hallway, her hands folded neatly on her lap, her posture still. Too still. She looked lost. Her mother wouldn’t even speak to her, and she didn’t push. She just sat there, her face void of emotion. Then, as if sensing someone watching her, she let out a deep sigh and forced a smile—one that didn’t reach her eyes. As if nothing had happened. But I knew better. And this—this was exactly why I didn’t want to lose her smiles.Because I knew how quickly her world could fall apart. And if I could

  • Shadows of the Heart (Ethan Sierra)   79 - Her Smiles

ETHAN SIERRAI was sitting under a coconut palm tree, flipping through the pages of my book while the waves crashed against the shore. The birds were humming, and the wind made the trees sway, their leaves rustling softly. It was calm, peaceful—one of those moments where everything felt right, or I thought so.“Ayoko pa kasing umuwi, Mama! Ayoko!” She’s small, but runs like a cheetah. I still have a lot of work to do, hmm? Listen to Mama, okay?” You didn’t bring me here last su
