Chapter 38 - Shane

"Hey, where's Aurora?" I whisper to Rae at the end of class. She's never this late and she's not replying to any of my texts. Not that I've tried continually since nine o'clock or anything...

"Home, sick." She whispers back. "Apparently on the cadet thing last weekend she got soaked and freezing, and now she's sick, Priya said Danny and Alex are down with it too."

"Right. Thanks." I walk straight out of school, driving over to her house with a brief stop at the shops for supplies. 

I knock, even though I can see her mum's cars not there, before grabbing the spare key from under the mat and letting myself in.

"Rory." I call. There's no answer but I can hear the TV on in her bedroom.
