Kyle

My breath caught the second those words left his lips. He remembered? No—he heard me? I thought back to that morning, my voice breaking as I begged him not to leave me, promising I would consider his feelings if he just stayed. I had thought he was too deep into the darkness to catch even a whisper of it.

“You… you actually heard me?” I asked softly, my eyes widening in surprise. “But you were unconscious. I didn’t think—”

“I was unconscious,” Hayden admitted, his voice steady, “but I still heard you. Your voice, your words… all of it reached me.”

A sharp ache ran through my chest, and I bit down hard on my lower lip, guilt and relief crashing together inside me. I had spoken those words thinking he’d never remember, that maybe it was just a whisper into the void. But here he was, staring right at me, demanding I keep my word.

“So,” Hayden said, his eyes not leaving mine, “are you going to do as you promised?”

HaydenWhen my eyes flickered open, the first sound that slipped past my lips was a low groan. Everything felt heavy, my body weighed down like I had been buried under a mountain. The faint beeping of a monitor echoed somewhere close by, and the sterile scent of disinfectant stung my nose. I blinked rapidly, forcing my eyes to adjust until the white walls and ceiling came into focus. My heart thudded in confusion. What the hell? Where was I?I shifted slightly, my gaze darting around the room, and that’s when it hit me. I was in a hospital. My chest tightened as flashes of memory started piecing themselves together. The rope… the crushing darkness… and then—Kyle. Kyle shouting. Kyle’s hands pulling me. And Jade—tears, fear, her voice breaking through the haze. Before I could fully grasp it all, movement jolted my focus. Kyle suddenly leaned close, his face so near mine that I froze. His eyes were wide, filled with something between relief and devastation. Jade’s gasp followed quickly.

MaddoxThe gathering at the camp was nothing short of a political formality. Alphas from neighboring packs, envoys, and a few elders had gathered under the glowing fire pits. I had just finished speaking to one of the council members about the security along the borders when a strange current hit me—sharp, suffocating, and terrifyingly familiar. My words cut off mid-sentence, and I clenched my jaw as that scent slammed into me again.Kyle.I could feel it threading through me like a live wire—the distress, the fear, the desperate pull of his emotions. It wasn’t just his usual nervousness. This was heavier, darker, almost unbearable. My chest tightened, and I knew instantly something had gone wrong.“Maddox? Are you listening?” one of the elders asked, frowning at me.I forced myself to breathe, but the air itself was choking me with the weight of Kyle’s fear. “Excuse me,” I muttered, my voice tighter than I meant. “I need to step out.”I didn’t wait for a response. My boots carried me

KyleThat morning, I had woken up restless, unable to shake the heaviness and tiredness in my chest. I decided to go find Hayden, maybe ask him what we should make for breakfast, maybe even offer to cook for once since Maddox wasn’t around. But the moment I stepped into his room, the last thing I expected was to see a piece of my world staring back at me.Through the gap of his slightly open drawer, the corner of a bottle caught my eye. I froze, my heart skipping a beat because I knew that shape, that color. I moved closer, telling myself I was wrong, that it couldn’t possibly be what I thought it was. My hands shook as I pulled the drawer open fully. My heat blockers. My throat dried instantly, and disbelief crushed me like a wave. No—no way. Why the hell were they here? In Hayden’s room? There was no reason, no explanation that could make this make sense. But as I stood there staring at the bottle, all the pieces from last night began to fall into place in the ugliest way possible.

HaydenMy throat closed up. “Kyle—”“Don’t you dare!” he screamed, his whole body shaking. “How long have they been here? You… you—” His voice broke as he held them up like evidence, his eyes burning into me. “You knew I was looking for them. You were there, acting like you didn’t know anything, making me—making me ask you for help while you—”“Listen to me!” I shouted back, my chest tight, heat rushing through my veins. “It’s not what you think—”Kyle’s laugh was harsh, hollow, his face crumbling even as anger pushed his voice higher. “Not what I think? You lied to me. You played me, Hayden. How could you—how could you do this to me?”“Kyle—” I tried again, but he cut me off, his voice louder, rawer.“Why?!” he shouted, tears edging his words, his chest heaving as he pointed the pill bottle at me like it was a weapon. “Why did you make me feel that way last night? You knew, Hayden. You knew! And you stood there—”His voice cracked, and it nearly broke me. “You pretended like you were

HaydenKyle tiredly rolled his eyes and shifted a little away from me on the bed. “Can you just let me rest?”“No,” I smirked, sliding closer until I could feel the warmth radiating off him. My gaze lingered on his face, tracing every line, every curve. He was beautiful—so damn beautiful it almost hurt to look at him. There was no way Maddox could have him all to himself… not when I was right here.Kyle suddenly opened his eyes, catching me staring. His brow furrowed. “By the way, what happened to your neck?” He pointed directly at it.“What?” I asked, instinctively touching the spot. The moment my fingers brushed over the tender skin, my eyes widened. Damn it. That was where Maddox had bitten me. That bastard. A flare of heat rushed through me, equal parts rage and humiliation.“It’s nothing,” I muttered quickly.“Yeah, sure. You never tell me anything,” Kyle murmured, his voice heavy with fatigue.I let out a soft sigh, the fight draining out of me for a moment. Then, his voice came
