Chapter 2

Author: Blaze Bamboo
Patrick frowned. "Someone else bought them for you? What did you do? Leticia Fletcher, you're my girlfriend! Not some—"

Whatever he'd been about to call me, he thought better of saying it when he saw the look I gave him.

"I know, but they're just a few bottles. If it bothers you that much, you can pick up the tab. Since you're my boyfriend and all," I shot back. "You and Sierra are connected. What, do you share a bank account, too?"

Patrick pinched the bridge of his nose, looking exasperated. "I knew you were jealous again. But you've seen what happens between Sierra and me."

He was referring to the notes I'd found showing that he kept Sierra updated on everything he did, practically around the clock. He'd even kept track of how many times he'd spoken to me and how often we'd touched.

And beneath every entry was a message from Sierra. Sometimes, she'd write, "You're not allowed to talk to her more than ten times tomorrow."

Or, "You did well today. I'll let you have dinner with her tomorrow."

Patrick had followed every one of her instructions.

When I tried to break up with him, he held me tight and refused to let me go. Then, Sierra showed up downstairs, tears streaming down her face.

"What happened? Why are you so upset?" she demanded. "I was watching a comedy, and you had me crying through the whole thing."

Patrick and Sierra had planned the whole thing together, keeping me in the dark and making a complete fool of me.

By then, we'd finished all the drinks on the table. But Sierra was still pestering Patrick, refusing to go home.

"I'm not done drinking! If you won't come with me, I'll go by myself. Then I'll find some random guy and sleep with him. Maybe then you'll know what it feels like to have another man put his hands on you!"

Just like that, Patrick was about to give in.

I watched them put on their little act. A beat later, I said coldly, "If you go with her, we're done."

"Lettie, do you really have to put me in this position?"

Without a word, I turned, hailed a cab, and got in.

Patrick sighed, but in the end, he chose to follow me.

…

On the way home, Patrick tried to smooth things over. "Don't be mad, Lettie. If I weren't connected to her, she could drink herself into the ground for all I care. But you're different. I hate seeing you upset."

His words did nothing to sway me. I had a feeling he wasn't going to come home with me so easily.

Sure enough, halfway there, Patrick clutched his chest, sweat breaking out across his forehead.

"It hurts! It hurts so bad! Lettie…"

A bitter smile tugged at my lips. I'd seen it coming, but my heart still sank anyway. He really was a good actor—no wonder he'd kept me fooled for so long.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I'm fine… Lettie, something must have happened to Sierra! It could be a matter of life and death. I have to go check on her."

I pretended to be concerned. "Do you need me to come with you?"

Patrick kissed me on the forehead and said, "It could be dangerous. I don't want you getting hurt. Go home and wait for me, okay?"

Having said that, he quickly flagged down another cab and left.

I put a hand to my chest, feeling my heart race. Then, I told the driver to follow Patrick's cab.

Later, my bodyguard told me Sierra wanted to see me. "She said if you refuse to see her, she'll make such a scene at the hospital that people will be afraid to come."I sighed. "Shouldn't she be talking to Patrick? What does she want with me?"But I figured it was better to deal with her now than let her cause more trouble. So, I went to the hospital and treated it as a routine inspection. …At the hospital, Sierra sat on the bed, her face deathly pale. The moment I walked in, she stared at me without saying a word. "What are you looking at me for? You're the one who asked me to come."I had no idea what she was getting at.At last, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Did you tell Patrick not to come see me?"I almost felt sorry for Sierra. "I'm married now. I can't keep going back and forth with Patrick like you do, or my husband will get jealous. "Once my husband gets jealous, he's not exactly easy to calm down. Besides, Patrick and I don't even talk anymore. How could I have

Patrick drove as fast as he could to my house. There, he waited outside all night, but I never showed up. He stopped my housekeeper and asked, "Where's Leticia?"Hearing that, she shot Patrick a puzzled look. "Ms. Fletcher got married. Of course she's living with her husband now."Patrick clenched his jaw, furious. …I never expected Patrick to show up at the Sinclair residence.Sincerity was written all over his face as he said, "Lettie, I swear. I'm done with Sierra. I won't contact her again. I realize I don't have feelings for her anymore. I never felt this way before. It's because I fell in love with you, Lettie. I really do love you!"Just as Patrick insisted he meant every word, Sierra called. His expression changed, and he immediately hung up."Lettie—"But Sierra kept calling. Before he could reject the next call, he accidentally hit answer. In an instant, her voice came through, faint and shaky. "Patrick… I got hit by an electric scooter. My stomach really hurts

The share transfer agreement was dated exactly one year after Patrick and I got together. That was also when I had accepted his "connection" with Sierra. "L-Lettie…" Patrick called out, his voice trembling. "I-I'm sorry. I finally understand how much you love me. Will you give me another chance? I promise I'll treat you right this time."Hearing that, Winston stepped in front of me. "Too late. Lettie's my wife now.""What do you mean?"It was only then that Patrick noticed me in my wedding dress with my hand clasped in Winston's. "Lettie, you were playing me this whole time? You never planned to marry me?""Patrick, you brought this on yourself."Patrick sized Winston up. "Him? Are you sure you didn't just choose him to get back at me?""Winston is the heir to the Sinclair family. He's also one of the top cardiologists in the country," I explained calmly. "And what do you have, Patrick? Other than being the Thorne heir, what do you have that Winston doesn't?"Patrick was left

By the time Winston and I were making the rounds at our wedding reception, Patrick finally showed up. His family looked ready to tear him apart, but he didn't seem bothered in the slightest. "Sorry. I overslept," Patrick said. "Why is everyone so serious? Relax. Leticia loves me. All I have to do is sweet-talk her a little, and she'll forgive me. It's no big deal."He glanced around before asking, "Where's my bride?"One of the bodyguards held up a rooster dressed in a wedding gown and said flatly, "This is your bride."Without missing a beat, Patrick grabbed the bodyguard by the collar. "Who do you work for? How dare you humiliate me like this!"He turned to his family, but no one said a word. All of them wore grim expressions. Patrick finally put it together. "I get it now. This is Leticia's idea of a joke. She's punishing me for being late, right? I'll call her and apologize."But no matter how many times he called, I never answered. With no other choice, he shouted acr

Sierra looked at me like I was an idiot. "You really think you're that special? Every one of Patrick's ex-girlfriends thought she'd be an exception. Want to know how that turned out?"They'd threaten to break up with Patrick unless he cut me out, and he'd just let them go. They never expected him to be that quick to walk away. "Once he did, they were the ones who couldn't let go. They kept coming back, again and again. You can try it too."So, I did. Sierra watched with amusement as I told Patrick we were over. He chuckled, then said, "Third time, huh? This is the third time you've broken up with me.""Then we're done."Having said that, I walked away without looking back. Behind me, I heard Sierra laugh smugly. "Let's make another bet. How long do you think it'll take her to come back and tell you she regrets it?"Someone would come crawling back, but it wouldn't be me.…Sure enough, a week later, I found Patrick waiting outside my building, a cigarette dangling from his

The car pulled up outside a hotel, just as I expected. The moment Patrick stepped out, he pulled Sierra into his arms and kissed her. They headed inside without ever breaking the kiss.I'd seen the key card for the hotel's presidential suite in Patrick's pocket, so I followed them without hesitation.I kicked the door open and found them still tangled up in each other. When Patrick saw me, he wasn't nearly as surprised as I'd expected. If anything, he looked relieved. He wrapped a towel around himself and lounged against the headboard."So you figured it out. You're smarter than I thought."Sierra, too, didn't look the least bit rattled. "Where would you rank her compared to all your exes?"Patrick actually stopped to think about it. "Second to last. I wouldn't put her any higher."Then, he turned to me. "We were actually betting on how long it would take you to figure it out.""You lost. That means you're not getting any for a week," Sierra said as she spread her hands. "Fi
