Chapter 1

The moment my boyfriend, Patrick Thorne, and his childhood friend, Sierra Lynch, spotted me, they broke off the kiss.

Patrick immediately tried to explain himself. "I was just getting something out of Sierra's eyes. You know how we can feel what the other one feels.

"If something gets in her eye, I feel it too. You're not going to get jealous again, are you?"

I shook my head, letting my gaze briefly settle on Sierra's split lip. Then, I caught Patrick by the chin, pulled a tube of toothpaste from my bag, and squeezed some onto his lips.

"Lettie! What are you doing? How am I supposed to eat like this?"

"Sierra's lips are obviously swollen from kissing someone," I said pointedly. "Aren't you two supposed to feel what the other feels? I thought it might hurt, so I figured I'd give you some toothpaste for the pain."

Patrick's face tightened, but I kept going. "Didn't you two agree not to do anything with anyone else? If Sierra already broke the rule, then I guess we can kiss too, right?"

Sierra's expression darkened the moment she heard that. She fixed Patrick with a warning look and hissed, "Don't you dare!"

I'd deliberately put on lipstick before leaning toward Patrick.

"Well? Are you going to kiss me?"

He shoved me away without a second thought. "Do you have to do this here? There are people everywhere. Let's just find a table."

I could hear people whispering around me. "She has no shame. Those two were practically making out. They're obviously a couple, and she's actually asking him to kiss her right in front of his girlfriend."

"Knew it. He rejected her."

I stood rooted to the spot, watching them walk away while I tried to ignore the looks people were giving me.

When I finally caught up with Patrick and Sierra, someone had already taken their usual spot. Patrick immediately told me to go talk to them.

"Just sweet-talk him a little. Ask that guy over there if he'll let us share the table."

I clenched my fists and stared at him. "Why me?"

"You know how I can feel whatever Sierra feels. I can't handle it if some old guy starts putting his hands on her!"

Sierra leaned against Patrick's shoulder, grinning. "The thought of some guy touching Patrick is hilarious. So, you're the one who has to help us out, Lettie."

I already knew he didn't care, but I still found myself asking, "Patrick, aren't you worried someone might harass me? I'm your girlfriend."

He reached over and lightly tapped my nose.

"Don't be silly. It's just some guy touching you. I'm not going to hold it against you. Now go."

I had always been irresistible to people, so when I asked if I could join them, they agreed without a second thought.

Sierra shot Patrick a knowing look and cooed, "Wow, Leticia really knows how to charm people. You're a lucky man, Patrick."

Patrick chuckled. "Yeah. I never knew she could be this bold. Looks like I made a mistake choosing places like the library and the park for our first few dates."

I clenched my teeth as a sharp ache tore through my chest.

Just then, one of the people at the table looked between us. "So, who's dating who? We've got this little couples' challenge. If you give the same answer ten times in a row, your drinks are on the house."

Without hesitation, Patrick slipped an arm around Sierra.

"She's my girlfriend."

Then, he leaned toward me and whispered, "Lettie, Sierra and I are obviously going to be better at this. Just put up with it so we can get our drinks for free."

Patrick even knew exactly where Sierra was most sensitive. Yet, the drink he ordered for me was the one thing I was allergic to—mango.

I let out a self-deprecating chuckle and finished every drink in front of me except the mango one.

A moment later, Patrick and Sierra came back down with their arms around each other.

Patrick froze when he saw me downing one drink after another. "Lettie, don't get the wrong idea. I only got all the answers right because Sierra and I are connected."

"Lettie!" Sierra exclaimed. "Don't tell me you knew the drinks were free, and that's why you're drinking like this! Too bad the deal only applies to Patrick and me. You still have to pay for yours."

Then, Patrick picked up a bottle from my side of the table. "You even opened a bottle this expensive? If you end up having to work off the tab, I'm not sticking around."

A smile tugged at my lips as I gestured toward the drinks on the table. "You've got it wrong. These were bought for me. So, just like you two, I don't have to pay for any of it."

Later, my bodyguard told me Sierra wanted to see me. "She said if you refuse to see her, she'll make such a scene at the hospital that people will be afraid to come."I sighed. "Shouldn't she be talking to Patrick? What does she want with me?"But I figured it was better to deal with her now than let her cause more trouble. So, I went to the hospital and treated it as a routine inspection. …At the hospital, Sierra sat on the bed, her face deathly pale. The moment I walked in, she stared at me without saying a word. "What are you looking at me for? You're the one who asked me to come."I had no idea what she was getting at.At last, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Did you tell Patrick not to come see me?"I almost felt sorry for Sierra. "I'm married now. I can't keep going back and forth with Patrick like you do, or my husband will get jealous. "Once my husband gets jealous, he's not exactly easy to calm down. Besides, Patrick and I don't even talk anymore. How could I have

Patrick drove as fast as he could to my house. There, he waited outside all night, but I never showed up. He stopped my housekeeper and asked, "Where's Leticia?"Hearing that, she shot Patrick a puzzled look. "Ms. Fletcher got married. Of course she's living with her husband now."Patrick clenched his jaw, furious. …I never expected Patrick to show up at the Sinclair residence.Sincerity was written all over his face as he said, "Lettie, I swear. I'm done with Sierra. I won't contact her again. I realize I don't have feelings for her anymore. I never felt this way before. It's because I fell in love with you, Lettie. I really do love you!"Just as Patrick insisted he meant every word, Sierra called. His expression changed, and he immediately hung up."Lettie—"But Sierra kept calling. Before he could reject the next call, he accidentally hit answer. In an instant, her voice came through, faint and shaky. "Patrick… I got hit by an electric scooter. My stomach really hurts

The share transfer agreement was dated exactly one year after Patrick and I got together. That was also when I had accepted his "connection" with Sierra. "L-Lettie…" Patrick called out, his voice trembling. "I-I'm sorry. I finally understand how much you love me. Will you give me another chance? I promise I'll treat you right this time."Hearing that, Winston stepped in front of me. "Too late. Lettie's my wife now.""What do you mean?"It was only then that Patrick noticed me in my wedding dress with my hand clasped in Winston's. "Lettie, you were playing me this whole time? You never planned to marry me?""Patrick, you brought this on yourself."Patrick sized Winston up. "Him? Are you sure you didn't just choose him to get back at me?""Winston is the heir to the Sinclair family. He's also one of the top cardiologists in the country," I explained calmly. "And what do you have, Patrick? Other than being the Thorne heir, what do you have that Winston doesn't?"Patrick was left

By the time Winston and I were making the rounds at our wedding reception, Patrick finally showed up. His family looked ready to tear him apart, but he didn't seem bothered in the slightest. "Sorry. I overslept," Patrick said. "Why is everyone so serious? Relax. Leticia loves me. All I have to do is sweet-talk her a little, and she'll forgive me. It's no big deal."He glanced around before asking, "Where's my bride?"One of the bodyguards held up a rooster dressed in a wedding gown and said flatly, "This is your bride."Without missing a beat, Patrick grabbed the bodyguard by the collar. "Who do you work for? How dare you humiliate me like this!"He turned to his family, but no one said a word. All of them wore grim expressions. Patrick finally put it together. "I get it now. This is Leticia's idea of a joke. She's punishing me for being late, right? I'll call her and apologize."But no matter how many times he called, I never answered. With no other choice, he shouted acr

Sierra looked at me like I was an idiot. "You really think you're that special? Every one of Patrick's ex-girlfriends thought she'd be an exception. Want to know how that turned out?"They'd threaten to break up with Patrick unless he cut me out, and he'd just let them go. They never expected him to be that quick to walk away. "Once he did, they were the ones who couldn't let go. They kept coming back, again and again. You can try it too."So, I did. Sierra watched with amusement as I told Patrick we were over. He chuckled, then said, "Third time, huh? This is the third time you've broken up with me.""Then we're done."Having said that, I walked away without looking back. Behind me, I heard Sierra laugh smugly. "Let's make another bet. How long do you think it'll take her to come back and tell you she regrets it?"Someone would come crawling back, but it wouldn't be me.…Sure enough, a week later, I found Patrick waiting outside my building, a cigarette dangling from his

The car pulled up outside a hotel, just as I expected. The moment Patrick stepped out, he pulled Sierra into his arms and kissed her. They headed inside without ever breaking the kiss.I'd seen the key card for the hotel's presidential suite in Patrick's pocket, so I followed them without hesitation.I kicked the door open and found them still tangled up in each other. When Patrick saw me, he wasn't nearly as surprised as I'd expected. If anything, he looked relieved. He wrapped a towel around himself and lounged against the headboard."So you figured it out. You're smarter than I thought."Sierra, too, didn't look the least bit rattled. "Where would you rank her compared to all your exes?"Patrick actually stopped to think about it. "Second to last. I wouldn't put her any higher."Then, he turned to me. "We were actually betting on how long it would take you to figure it out.""You lost. That means you're not getting any for a week," Sierra said as she spread her hands. "Fi
