The journey back to the Moon Shadow territory was a silent, suffocating blur.

Lyra sat in the passenger seat of Ethan’s jet-black SUV, her fingers tangled in the hem of her paint-stained apron. Outside the tinted glass, the neon lights of the human city faded into dark, sprawling highways, replaced by the dense, towering pine forests that marked the perimeter of pack land.

Ethan drove with one hand on the wheel, his broad shoulders relaxed, yet his aura heavy and oppressive. He hadn't spoken a word since forcing her out of the gallery, but the scent of his rage—sharp like ozone and burnt ash—filled the enclosed space.

"He's in the lower dungeons, isn't he?" Lyra's voice broke the silence, thin and fragile against the hum of the engine.

Ethan didn't glance at her. "Your brother is where traitors belong."

"He's nineteen, Ethan!" Lyra turned in her seat, anger finally burning through her fear. "He was a child when you banished me! He doesn't know anything about pack politics or ancient archives. Whatever he was doing, someone set him up!"

"Just like someone set you up three years ago?" Ethan asked, his voice laced with smooth, dangerous sarcasm. He slowed the vehicle as they reached the iron gates of the pack estate. "You always were quick to play the victim, Lyra. But the pack council doesn't care about excuses, and neither do I. Blood was spilled, laws were broken, and someone has to pay."

The heavy gates swung open automatically, revealing the winding stone path leading up to the grand pack house. The estate stood like a fortress against the mountain backdrop—a sprawling manor of stone and dark wood, illuminated by torchlight and surrounded by guards.

Lyra’s heart hammered against her ribs. Three years ago, she had been dragged down these very steps in chains, stripped of her rank, and branded a poisoner. Returning voluntarily felt like walking into a trap with her eyes wide open.

Ethan parked in the private courtyard. Before Lyra could touch the door handle, he reached across the console, his large hand gripping her wrist. His touch sent a jolt of electricity straight up her arm, making her inner wolf whimper in recognition.

"Listen to me carefully," Ethan growled softly, leaning in until his glowing amber eyes filled her vision. "The moment we step out of this car, you are my mate. You look at me like you belong to me. You stand by my side, and you do not utter a single word to the Elders unless I command it."

"And if I refuse to play along?" she whispered, staring into the face of the man she had once loved more than life itself.

Ethan’s thumb brushed roughly over her pulse point, feeling her heart racing. "Then I sign Leo's execution order before the sun rises."

He let her go and stepped out of the vehicle. Lyra took a shuddering breath, trying to collect the scattered pieces of her dignity. She smoothed down her clothes, stepped out into the cool mountain air, and raised her head. She refused to let them see her break twice.

Ethan met her at the front of the SUV, offering his arm. It was a formal gesture, rigid and devoid of warmth. Lyra hesitated for a second before wrapping her hand around his forearm. The heat radiating through his coat was almost scalding.

Together, they walked up the grand stone steps into the pack house.

The heavy front doors swung open, revealing the cavernous great hall. Standing at the center of the polished marble floor was a small group of senior pack officials, flanked by two armed guards. But standing at the front, dressed in a sleek silver gown that practically screamed royalty, was Victoria.

Victoria—the daughter of the Northern Alpha, the woman who had spent the last three years whispering in Ethan's ear, replacing Lyra in every way that mattered.

Victoria’s eyes widened in horror as she saw Lyra walking hand-in-hand with Ethan. Her refined composure shattered instantly.

"Ethan!" Victoria stepped forward, her voice sharp with disbelief. "What is she doing here? Why is that banished blood-traitor in the pack house?"

Ethan didn't slow his pace, dragging Lyra along with him until they stood before the assembled group.

"Control your tone, Victoria," Ethan said coldly, his Alpha voice echoing through the vast hall, forcing several lower-ranking pack members to bow their heads instinctively. "Lyra is here on my authority."

"She poisoned your sister!" Victoria spat, her hands clenching into tight fists at her sides. "She was cast out by the Council! Bringing her back violates pack law—"

"I am the pack law," Ethan interrupted, his voice dropping into a deadly register that silenced the room instantly. "The Harvest Moon trial begins in three days. The Elders demand a Luna at my side to solidify our union against the rogue threat. Since your injuries prevent you from taking the blood oath this week, Lyra will stand in your place."

A collective gasp rippled through the gathered members. Victoria looked as if she had been slapped.

"You can't be serious," Victoria whispered, her face pale with rage. "You're going to put the Luna mark on a traitor?"

"It is a temporary arrangement," Ethan declared smoothly, looking around the room to ensure no one dared to challenge him. "A contract to satisfy the Council. Once the threat is neutralized and the Harvest Moon passes, the arrangement ends."

He turned his gaze down to Lyra, his eyes dark and unreadable. "Take her to the master suite."

Victoria took a step toward Ethan, her eyes flashing with venomous jealousy. "She sleeps in your rooms? Ethan, no!"

"She stays where I can watch her," Ethan replied without looking back. He tightened his grip on Lyra’s hand, pulling her toward the grand staircase. "Elder Vance is waiting in my study with the blood contract. Come, Lyra. It's time to seal your fate."

As they ascended the stairs, Lyra felt Victoria’s murderous gaze burning into her back. But as she looked up at the hard, uncompromising profile of the Alpha holding her hand, a far more terrifying realization hit her.

She wasn't just entering a fake marriage to save her brother. She was stepping right back into the lion's den, where the secrets of her past were waiting to tear her apart.

The scent of spilled pine wine, roasting meat, and heavy wolf pheromones still lingered in the Great Hall, but the tension from the summit had shifted into something far more dangerous. The elders had accepted the fake union—for now. Standing at Ethan’s right hand, wearing the heavy velvet cloak of the Luna, Lyra had successfully deflected the sharpest inquiries from Council Elder Vane and Victoria’s political allies. She had smiled when required, bowed her head with practiced grace, and allowed Ethan’s possessive hand to rest at her waist in a display of unquestionable unity. Now, hours after the last pack leader had departed, the fortress was hushed. Moonlight poured through the high arched glass of the private solar on the third floor, casting long, barred shadows across the stone floor.Lyra stood by the hearth, her back to the grand double doors. She had unpinned the Luna cloak, letting the dark fabric drop in a pool at her feet. In her simple linen tunic and leather trousers, sh

The blade against Lyra’s throat was cold. The blood from the shallow cut slid beneath her collar, warm against her skin. Behind her, Adrian Blackthorn held her with one arm locked around her waist, while the other kept the silver dagger pressed beneath her jaw.Across the archive, Ethan stood motionless. His eyes were fixed on Adrian’s face.“No,” he said again.Adrian smiled. “That is all you have to say after three years?”Ethan’s hands curled into fists.“Adrian died at the northern border.”“That is what they wanted you to believe.”“The patrol found your body.”“They found someone wearing my cloak.”“Your wolf disappeared.”Adrian’s smile faded.“My wolf was buried beneath a mountain of betrayal.”Lyra tried to move, but the blade pressed harder.“Tell him to lower his weapon,” Adrian whispered beside her ear.Ethan’s gaze shifted to the knife.“Release Lyra.”“Lower your aura first.”Ethan did not move.“Adrian,” Lyra said carefully, “if you wanted Ethan dead, you would have att

Lyra did not move after the study door slammed shut. The silence Ethan left behind was worse than his anger. It pressed against the walls, filled the spaces between her breaths, and settled over her skin like a second layer of cold. The burning mark on her palm pulsed.Once.Twice.With every beat, the blood oath reminded her that she was no longer free to run.Not from Ethan. Not from the pack. Not from the past she had spent three years trying to bury.Lyra looked toward the closed study door.Ethan had given her until the Harvest Moon.A few weeks to prove she had not poisoned Clara.A few weeks to save her brother.A few weeks to uncover the person who had destroyed her life. She pressed her injured palm against her chest.“I won’t fail,” she whispered.A faint scrape came from behind her.Lyra turned. The master suite was empty. The fire had nearly died, leaving only a red glow beneath the logs. Shadows stretched across the stone floor. The windows were sealed from the inside, an

The whisper of the crowd fell into a suffocating stillness as the searing heat of the blood bond ripped through Lyra’s body. It was not a gentle spark; it was a volcanic detonation. Three years of deliberate suppression, cold distance, and forced apathy crumbled in a fraction of a second. The silver-and-black obsidian dagger had done more than slice skin—it had shattered the artificial barrier between their wolves. Her inner wolf, dormant and half-starved for years in the human realm, roared to life, pacing wildly against the walls of her consciousness. It demanded closeness, submission, dominance, and scent—all at once.Ethan’s arm around her waist felt like a band of iron, scorching through the emerald silk of her dress. His chest heaved against hers, his rapid heartbeats hammering in perfect, terrifying sync with her own. Looking up into his face, she saw that his sharp, icy control had completely evaporated. His amber eyes had turned almost black, the pupils blown wide with the ra

The morning sun broke over the jagged peaks of the Moon Shadow territory, casting sharp beams of silver and pale gold through the high arched windows of the master suite.Lyra woke with a sharp intake of breath. She was curled on the edge of the velvet sofa, her muscles stiff and aching from sleeping in her clothes. The fire in the hearth had died down to glowing embers, and the other side of the room was empty. Ethan was already gone. She stood up, smoothing down her wrinkled apron and top, when a quiet knock echoed at the heavy oak doors. Before she could answer, the door swung open. A young female wolf with dark, wide eyes and a simple grey tunic stepped into the room, carrying a tray topped with a silver teapot, fresh fruit, and a folded garment."Good morning, Lady Lyra," the girl said softly, keeping her eyes fixed firmly on the floor. Her posture was tense, her shoulders hunched as if expecting a blow.Lyra blinked, caught off guard by the title. "Lady? No... please, just call

The heavy mahogany door of the Alpha’s quarters clicked shut, locking out the whispering hallways and Victoria’s burning gaze. The master suite was vast and imposing, built from raw grey stone and dark walnut. A massive stone fireplace dominated the far wall, its flames crackling softly and casting dancing shadows across a king-sized canopy bed. The air in the room was saturated with Ethan’s scent—cedar, ozone, and the faint, bitter edge of mountain pine.Lyra pulled her hand free from Ethan’s grip the moment the lock engaged. She took three steps backward, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird."You didn't tell me I’d be staying in your room," she said, her voice echoing slightly in the high-ceilinged space. "There are dozens of guest rooms in this estate."Ethan unbuttoned his coat, tossing it carelessly onto a leather armchair. He turned to face her, his broad chest rising and falling with slow, deliberate breaths."Guest rooms have locks on the inside," Ethan sa
