Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Jinx
Xander's POV

And what happened after? Not only was Blaine ungrateful, but he had also gotten together with my wife.

Blaine chuckled lightly and deliberately said to me, "Xander, this shop was a gift from my wife. Feel free to pick anything. I'm in a good mood today, so I'll give you whatever you want."

Wendy, who had been silent until then, suddenly looked tense. "Honey, we should head home first," she said coldly.

But Blaine stepped in front of us, plastering on a fake smile. "Xander, my wife just gave birth to a son. Why don't you come celebrate with us over dinner?

"I heard you really like kids. You can even hold my son."

Before I could answer, Wendy immediately refused. "No. My husband isn't feeling well today.

"Blaine, even if you have a loving wife who takes care of you, you should still have a career of your own as a man. Come back to work as soon as your paternity leave is over!

"That's enough. No need to see us out."

Her tone was firm and left no room for argument.

Honestly, I had to admire Wendy's acting skills.

We had barely taken a step before we heard Blaine say dejectedly, "You're right, Ms. Fisher. My wife might dote on me for a while, but she can't take care of me forever.

"I just feel sorry for my newborn son…"

Blaine began to sigh loudly, but Wendy didn't look back. She just tightened her grip on my hand.

Once we got home, Wendy hugged me tightly and murmured in a low voice, "Honey, if I ever do anything to hurt you, you have to let me explain, okay?

"I really, really love you. You're more important than my life. I swear, I really love you!

"Honey, are you listening? I really can't live without you—"

Before she could finish, her phone suddenly rang. The caller ID showed Blaine's name.

Wendy immediately let go of me, as if she were afraid I'd see the name. She rejected the call.

But the next second, her phone chimed with a text.

Wendy immediately stood up and headed for the door, blurting out a lie without even thinking. "Honey, the office just called. There's an emergency at work."

Five minutes later, I received a text from Blaine.

"Xander, do you know what it means to rule from behind the throne?"

Then, in the next instant, he called me.

Through the receiver came Wendy's muffled, furious voice. "Who told you to come to my house?"

Blaine complained in a wounded tone, "You're so mean. I let it slide when you put on an act in front of that old fart just now, but now you're yelling at me too?"

"Alright, I was wrong. I won't yell anymore. I wouldn't bear a son for that old fart anyway. How could he compare to you?" Wendy said softly.

Blaine snorted. "But you hugged him just now! Why? What's so special about him? Isn't he just a sugar baby you've been supporting for ten years? Ugh, I'm jealous!"

"Fine, I won't hug him anymore. I won't touch him from now on, okay? Don't be jealous. Give me a kiss."

After a flurry of audible kisses, Wendy's breathing grew ragged. She lowered her voice and said, "You fox! Do you really have to tease me in the car?"

Blaine huffed playfully. "Yeah, I do! I love messing around right under your husband's nose. Isn't the thrill what you love most?"

When the sounds became vile to listen to, I hung up. Then I smashed my phone violently on the cross pendant that had been glued back together.

This time, the cross didn't just break into pieces. Under my tireless grinding, it was reduced to nothing but powder.

That night, Wendy didn't come home. She only sent me a message.

"Honey, I'm pulling an all-nighter to set up your birthday party, so I won't be back tonight. Rest well. I'll give you a huge surprise tomorrow."

Xander's POVThe cold glint of the blade illuminated Blaine's twisted, terrifying face. He looked like he'd been beaten countless times, and there wasn't a single patch of unbroken skin on his face or arms. What was even more horrifying was the tiny bundle strapped to his chest. It was shaped like a baby—and gave off the stench of a corpse. For the past six months, there had been no news of him at all. I even thought he had taken the child back to his hometown. But given his personality, he would never have let things go.I never imagined Wendy would keep him captive. Still, this was exactly the kind of thing that vicious woman would do.She was afraid Blaine would come after me, so from the day I left, she had locked him away.An adult could endure being imprisoned, but not an infant. The tip of the blade was only inches away when a thud rang out, and the blade sank into Wendy's chest. With Wendy taking the knife for me, paired with the resolute look in her eyes, I was instan

Xander's POVAfter cursing "psycho" under his breath, the man fled the scene at once.I had witnessed the whole thing from not far away.Back when Wendy went to business dinners, she would also encounter countless men throwing themselves at her.But she had always kept me by her side. When faced with all those temptations, she only ever had one answer."I have a husband."However, at some point, Wendy stopped taking me to her business dinners. She told me it was a gathering for businesspeople, and that they couldn't talk openly with her husband around. Thus, I could only wait at home for her every single day. I'd eat at that restaurant near the villa until I was sick of it and threw up.Occasionally, there were rumors about Wendy's affairs, or some man sending photos to provoke me.I couldn't bring myself to doubt her in the slightest. After all, Wendy's love had once made me trust her completely. My thoughts were interrupted by Wendy's fawning voice. "Xander, I've changed! I

Xander's POVIt wasn't until Kyra and I walked out the door that Wendy chased after us, desperately asking, "Xander, don't you miss the food I made for you?"I let out a sneer and said icily, "Miss it? Miss you using sugar instead of salt? Your burned heart-shaped eggs?"I think I might actually miss that restaurant near our house more."Every word felt like a slap in Wendy's face.I looked at her with disdain and said deliberately, "If you've got any sense, you'll get the hell out of my sight now."When she heard me tell her to leave, Wendy felt her heart clench. "Honey, how can you treat me like this?"She looked utterly defeated, staring at me as though I were some unfaithful bastard."Because I don't love you anymore," I retorted flatly. With that, I turned and left. But Wendy still wouldn't give up. "How can you just stop loving me like that? I know I was wrong! You didn't like Blaine, so I cut him out of my life! Why won't you forgive me?"Xander, please don't leave, o

Xander's POVOutside the window, drones had formed a few sentences."Xander, I miss you so much.""Honey, please stop being angry, okay?""As long as you forgive me, I'll do anything for you."I frowned at the display. Just then, an irritating voice sounded from behind us. "Xander, I finally found you!"My disgust toward Wendy hadn't diminished at all. Even just hearing her voice made me feel sick. When I turned and our eyes met, the smile on my face vanished completely.I didn't know how she had found me. Perhaps today's blind date with Kyra had caused my whereabouts to leak.I'd really thought I would never see her again for the rest of my life.Seeing the dark look on my face, Wendy asked cautiously, "Honey, can you give me one more chance?"I glanced at her and said expressionlessly, "Do you even deserve it?"At my words, the color drained from Wendy's face. In the past, I had never once said a harsh word to her. I had never even blamed or complained to her.Wendy grit

I've taken good care of everything your parents left you."My mother had passed away when I was young, and Emily had always played the role of a mother to me.However, back then, my father had refused to marry Emily. It was only at my request that he finally agreed to marry her.Emily had immediately signed a prenuptial agreement, saying that she would never take a single cent from the Lynch family. She also added that, even after becoming my stepmother, she would never force me to call her "Mom".She said I already had a mother of my own, and that such a sacred title should be respected. But what touched me

Third-Person POVThe moment Wendy saw what was inside the box, she froze as though she'd been struck by lightning.A second later, she curled in on herself and instinctively shuffled back slightly. She didn't dare touch it. Even looking at it seemed to terrify her.It was as though the box contained some monstrous beast ready to devour her whole. After a long silence, Wendy suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood and let out a hoarse yell."No, Xander wouldn't leave me! It's all fake!"She gritted her teeth and furiously stuffed everything back into the box, then hurled it far away. Then, before she could react, the mechanism inside the box was triggered, and the entire box burst into flames in an instant.Amid the flames, Wendy belatedly realized that the sandalwood box was the last thing Xander had left behind for her.She scrambled toward it, desperately trying to put out the fire.
