~Arya~

The silence that followed was suffocating. Awkward. The only sound that filled the car was the uniform hum of the engine. Lucien shot me a hostile stare, long and hard enough to make me want to shrink away from him. Then he burst into laughter.

Disruptive, full of unspoken mockery and disbelief. The rich sound floated into my ears. In the rearview mirror, my eyes caught the driver’s. He looked like he was holding back laughter too, but was trying to be sober just so I wouldn’t feel bad. Heat rushed up my cheeks. I glared at Lucien, wondering what the hell was so funny.

“Arya, I don't make the same mistake twice,” he said finally, his voice sharp.

I looked away, biting down on my lower lip. His words stung a lot more than I wanted to admit, and I couldn't tell why. Maybe it was because a part of me wanted him to answer in the affirmative. Lucien had always loved me. Even though I didn't reciprocate his feelings, he didn’t mind. When we got engaged, he could as well have passed

~Arya~“Cassandra Fletcher will never lie about this, though,” a reporter huffed, glancing around for support.” She's famous, wealthy, beautiful. She can have the whole world at her feet if she wants to. Why would she stoop so low to frame you even after everything she has accomplished?”How on earth could I let these people know that Cassie wasn’t the saint they knew her to be. She was nice in front of the cameras, always smiling, but in reality, she was nothing but a horrible person. They believed everything she did because she had built an impeccable image. “You are reporters,” I began, pacing the floors with calculated steps. “You’re supposed to know how to separate facts from rumours. Isn’t that your job?”“Don’t change the topic, Mrs Sinclair.”“Oh, I have no intention to do that,” I retorted. “I just think it’s ridiculous that people who are supposed to be professional can’t seem to think straight when they should. I called you here because I hoped you'd put your biases aside

~Arya~“What did you just say?” Lina demanded, her eyes narrowed into slits. “What on earth did I just hear you say? You want me gone?”“You heard me correctly, Lina. I want nothing to do with you anymore. You have shown me all there is to see, why should I keep you around?”“Arya, you killed my baby,” she cried out. “If it wasn’t for you, I'd still have a child growing in my womb. Now I can't even give birth again. I have lost my chance to ever be a mother. You can’t just toss me to the side after everything you have done.”“I can.” Her jaw dropped open. She glanced at Edgar and Pamela, eyes wide. “What the hell does that mean?”“I can toss you anywhere and anyhow I want to, because I did nothing wrong. I didn’t kill your babay. I know nothing about that poison. As a matter of fact, I never saw it until the detective showed me earlier.”Panic flickered in her eyes. It lasted for a fraction of a second before she masked it. “The detective did what?”I smirked. “The police found the

~Arya~Inspector Jones' eyes widened. He scowled, completely displeased. Lucien took a steep back and came back to stand beside me, hands tucked into his pockets.“You’re throwing an innocent woman under the bus for Arya Manchester?”“Cassandra is not innocent. I’m sure you know this already, but if you have a hard time accepting it, I'll help with that. If you really think she is innocent, prove it.”His expression tightened. “You must really think I can't prove it.”“You can’t. It’s impossible. Isn’t that why you have turned into a hound dog for her?”Disappointment clouded the officer’s face. He nodded, averting his gaze. “I see why they say beautiful women are easily the cause of great men’s downfall. Mr Vale, you’re completely blinded by this woman who has you wrapped around her finger that you don’t even know what’s right and what’s wrong anymore. That is very sad to see.”“Don’t resort to insults just because you have facts to back up your claims, Detective," I snapped. “It’s n

~Arya~“Everyone, I know how this may seem to you all right now, but I really ask that you are not hasty in making a judgement. Arya Manchester is not a horrible person. She’s someone I have known since I was a child. I have good reason to believe that there’s a reason she’s acting this way.” she paused again, looking into the camera with shocking conviction. Her actions were not supposed to surprise me as much, but they did. Who could have thought that Cassandra letcher had grown up into this type of woman. Heartless, bent on destroying whatever stood in her way just because she had the influence to.“I think she must be going through something. Maybe she’s just venting her anger out on me. She has her way with words, so she knows how to convince people to do exactly what she wants them to. Arya Manchester is a dangerous woman, one who should be feared by all.”“She’s having a blast,” I scoffed. Lucien relaxed in his seat, his brows knit together.“We should do something soon. If we

~Arya~The hospital lot was parked minutes later. Cars rolled in, queuing up after each other. Media personalities scurried into the building with their cameras in hand, racing to get a perfect spot for Cassie’’s emergency conference.“She released a video,” Lucien's urgent voice alerted me. He clasped his fingers around my arm and dragged me to his car. Once we were settled, he showed me a video playing on his phone.“It’s likely deepfake, but people won’t believe that.”“What’s in the video?” I questioned, but the scene on the screen was already etching itself into my brain. It was a video of Cassie and I on that rooftop, arguing. And of course, it was deepfake. Heavily edited to suit the agenda she was trying to push about me. “I never said all these things,” I muttered to myself, staring at the screen blankly as the video played. Cassie had completely changed our conversation, making me seem like the reason she fell off that building.“I think you should go to hell,” the fake in

~Arya~“Clara,” I spoke into the phone as we trudged through the lobby of the hospital. “Call for a press conference. I want to address the public.”Clara let out a dramatic exhale. “Mrs Sinclair, are you okay? I didn’t know if you’d like me to call you. I’ve seen everything in the news. Are you fine? I’m so sorry that you’re going through so much, Mrs Sinclair.”I smiled. Clara was way too kind. A pretty woman who was good at her job and had a good heart. She never made me regret making her my personal assistant.”“I’m great, Clara. It’s nothing I can't handle. Send an invitation to all the media companies you can think of. I want a lot of cameras at my press conference.”“As you wish, Miss Sinclair. I’ll do as you instruct.”I ended the call and slid the phone into my bag, trailing behind Lucien as he led me to his car. I was fuming. My blood boiled. Cassie had no intention to tell people the truth. It left me with no choice but to stand up for myself.I thought I could get through
