Chapter 4

Author: Axcellent
Isabella instinctively checked her phone. It was past midnight. A flicker of guilt crossed her face. "Honey, I bought you a gift. It's the watch you liked last time. Try it on."

She held out a small bag containing a box.

Dominic glanced at it and casually set it on the coffee table. "No need. I'm not used to wearing expensive things like this."

Isabella's expression soured instantly. "Do you have to be so sarcastic? You went way too far just now. You beat Alex half to death, and I had to talk him down from calling the police. You owe him an apology!"

Dominic let out a bitter laugh. "Apologize to him? What I did was nothing. If I see him again, I'll beat him worse. Just get him to call the police!"

Isabella's anger flared. "H-How can you be like this?"

Dominic waved her off. "Save your words. We've been together for seven years. We had good times, sure, but people change. If you've fallen for someone else, just say so. I can let go. But drinking, arms crossed with another man? That's making me a cuckold. I won't stand for it."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Isabella protested. "After all these years, you still don't trust me? Making you a cuckold? How disgusting. He's like a brother to me. That's all. About the toast, you've got it wrong. I can explain…"

Dominic looked at her steadily. "Go ahead."

Isabella bit her lip. "Honey, it was a celebration dinner. Everyone was drinking. The toast was just the crowd egging us on. I only meant to raise my glass to him, but then he slipped his arm across mine… I didn't do it on purpose—"

"So you still drank it, right?" Dominic cut her off.

Isabella's face tightened, but she nodded. "I'd already had some to drink. I wasn't thinking. I just went along. But I swear, it's only a brother-sister bond. Nothing else. I'm your wife. You should trust me."

Her explanation did nothing to ease him. In fact, it sounded even more absurd.

"So you did drink it. My beloved wife, clinking glasses with your so-called sworn brother…" A mirthless laugh escaped him. "What a joke."

Isabella paled. She moved closer, sat beside him, and gently wrapped her arms around his. "Honey, don't say that. I've never betrayed you. I only love you."

Dominic shook his head, pulled his arm free, and met her gaze. "Until now, I trusted you unconditionally. Don't you see we already have a problem?"

Isabella froze. Fights between a husband and a wife were normal to her. They'd quarrel today and make up tomorrow. It was nothing serious.

"What problem? There's no problem," she said hurriedly.

"Fire him. Cut ties with him. Can you do that?" Dominic's voice was flat.

Isabella stared in disbelief. "Why drag him into this? I already explained. He's just a brother to me!"

Dominic rubbed his temples, suppressing his fury. "How many times has this happened?"

"What do you mean?"

"How many fights have we had because of him?" Dominic pressed. "Last weekend, we were supposed to take Lily to the amusement park. Then he called, and you ran to the office. Who's the boss? Him or you?"

Isabella tried to explain, "He was working late. I needed to help him handle some things—"

"And when he was looking for an apartment, what did that have to do with you? We were finally at the movies, and you left me alone to go house-hunting with him?" Dominic demanded.

Isabella's face tightened again. "He's young, new to the city. I didn't want him to be scammed."

Dominic scoffed. "And when he called, you ran to his place to cook for him. Was that to prevent a scam too?"

"I didn't…" Isabella scrambled. "He had a high fever. He couldn't even move. I'm his sworn sister. What's wrong with making soup for him? Honey, stop being petty. He's just a kid. I only helped within reason…"

Those words snapped Dominic's restraint. He shot to his feet, his voice shaking with fury. "So if he wanted you, you'd give him that too?"

The air went still.

Isabella was stunned. After a moment, she stood, blazing with rage. "Are you out of your mind, Dominic? How could you even say that? You've disappointed me more than I can say."

"I'm going insane because of you," Dominic roared, eyes bloodshot. "You know damn well his presence is wrecking our marriage, yet you keep doing whatever you please. Fine. Keep it up. But hear me—if you don't cut things off with him, there's only one solution. Divorce."

Isabella was bewildered. "Over something like this? You'd divorce me?"

"Something like this?" Dominic laughed coldly. "I've said what I needed to. If you still care about this family, about me and Lily, you know what to do."

Isabella's anger intensified, and her expression hardened. "Maybe you're the one who needs to calm down. I haven't done anything wrong. Why should I change?"

That was her nature—unyielding, domineering.

Dominic held her gaze, unflinching. "Suit yourself."

He walked into the guest room.

Isabella collapsed onto the sofa, heart in turmoil. She grabbed Dominic's cigarette pack and lit one with unsteady hands.

A sleepy voice called out, "What are you two fighting about in the middle of the night?"

Katherine emerged from Lilith's room, rubbing her eyes.

Isabella glanced at her without surprise. "You're here."

Katherine nodded and sat beside her. "What happened now?"

Although she didn't like Dominic, she didn't want to see her sister's marriage fall apart. If they fought, the one who would suffer most was the little girl.

Isabella pouted angrily. "He's out of his mind. Talking about divorce."

Katherine's eyes widened. "He'd really divorce you?"

"He wouldn't dare," Isabella said with certainty. "He's just mad. By tomorrow, it'll blow over."

At once, the entire Hale family fell silent.Charlie's expression shifted. He hadn't expected Jackson to corner him like this, and for a moment, he seemed unable to respond.Even Jonah was stunned. He shot to his feet and stared at his father. "Dad! Where exactly is Jessica?"Although Jackson was advanced in age, a sharp light flashed in his cloudy eyes as he fixed Charlie with a piercing stare. He gave Charlie no chance to recover and pressed him relentlessly, "What exactly are you trying to hide?"When he saw that his father still refused to speak, Jonah's tone changed. "Dad, hurry up and tell us. Jessica, she..."He didn't dare finish the sentence. Panic was written all over his face.Charlie looked around the room. When he saw that nearly everyone was staring at him, he slowly let out a breath. "Jessica... is missing."His voice wasn't loud, but everyone heard it clearly.Jackson's eyes widened as he shouted, "What did you say?"Dominic's right hand had been resting on the

Dominic had believed that, with the woman's guarantee, Charlie would honor his promise once Carter was released. A sharp glint flashed across Dominic's eyes."Looks like blood has to be spilled today..." As he spoke, he strode toward the middle-aged man.The man's expression turned grim as he drew a deep breath and assumed a fighting stance.Dominic stepped forward and threw a simple, straightforward punch. The middle-aged man crossed his arms to block it.The next second, the sound of breaking bones echoed through the room. The middle-aged man screamed as the force of the blow launched him more than 10 feet through the air. He slammed hard into the wall.Everyone froze in shock."Impossible!"The middle-aged man's expression changed dramatically. As he looked into Dominic's cold eyes, a chill ran down his spine. He struggled to his feet, but Dominic was already closing in.Charlie had never imagined that Dominic could defeat his elite bodyguard with a single punch. He snarled,

Dominic was actually quite easygoing. In some respects, he wasn't particularly violent at all. He could even be considered a genuinely decent man. At present, however, an unfathomable madness burned in his eyes, sending a chill through everyone present.Charlie trembled with rage. "How dare you! You're completely insane! Do you have a death wish?"Never in his life had anyone dared to act so arrogantly in front of him, so utterly without regard for rules or consequences.Dominic's fingers slowly tightened, and a faint smile spread across his lips.At such a critical moment, he was actually smiling. Only his eyes remained cold, as if carved from ancient ice."You want to know whether I dare?" Dominic's voice was quiet, yet it carried unquestionable authority. "I'll show you whether I dare. Thirty seconds left."As he spoke, Carter's face had already turned crimson. His eyes were bloodshot. His arms hung limply at his sides, completely devoid of strength. His body had begun to twit

Charlie frowned and glanced at Dominic. 'Damn it, what is wrong with this world? Does the Harris family really love adopting sons that much?'He seemed to realize Dennis hadn't come with good intentions, and his tone turned indifferent. "May I ask what business you have here, Dennis?"To Charlie, even if the Harris family acknowledged Dominic, he was still just a junior.Dominic stepped forward. "Where is Jessica?"The room fell silent.Only then did Charlie truly turn his attention to Dominic. After studying him for several seconds, he said flatly, "What do you want with Jessica?"Dominic showed no fear. "I've come to take her home.""Take her home?" Charlie seemed to find the statement absurd. The corner of his mouth twitched. "Her home is here. Exactly where do you plan to take her?"By now, anger was steadily building inside Dominic, but he forced himself to keep it under control. "I don't care where she stays. Right now, I just want to see her!"That was already a comprom

Dominic arrived on that street once again.Only now did he learn its name: Regent Street. The name suited it perfectly. The people who lived here stood at the pinnacle of Bastian's power. In ancient times, they would have been nobles, ministers, and generals. As soon as the guards outside saw the Harris jeep approaching, they straightened and raised their hands in salute."Happy Mardi Gras, General!"Accompanied by the synchronized greeting, the jeep passed through the checkpoint and entered Regent Street without obstruction.Dennis said, "Dom, the Hales live at No. 14 Regent Street. The carnival celebrations have yet to end, so the old man should still be home. Once we're inside, make sure to offer your festive greetings first."Dominic nodded silently.Jackson Hale handled matters that affected all of Bastian every day. He was one of the country's most influential figures and had devoted his entire life to serving his country. He deserved respect. Not long afterward, the jee

Suzy seemed to have met Jessica before and remembered her well. She muttered, "She's definitely not that young..."Only then did Dennis understand. Since Dominic couldn't get in, he had come here for help.Dennis immediately laughed. "Dominic, isn't it just the Hales? I'll go with you myself! Are you saying a man from the Fleming family isn't good enough for a girl from the Hales?"That was exactly what Dominic wanted to hear. He jumped to his feet at once. "Then let's go now, Dennis!""Right now?" Dennis paused for a moment. "Are you sure you're up for it?"The little troublemaker had been missing for so long that Dominic had long since run out of patience. How could he worry about feeling weak?He shook his head. "I'm fine. Getting to the Hales is what matters.""Alright then!" Dennis wasted no time and got up to make arrangements.Less than two minutes later, a green Jeep pulled up outside the courtyard.Dennis and Dominic climbed in.Just as the security officer in the dr
