Chapter 3

Author: Axcellent
Gasps filled the room as the table overturned, food and wine spilling across the floor. Plates shattered, dishes clattered, and several guests were left soaked and disheveled.

Isabella staggered back and collapsed onto the floor, trembling as she shouted, "What's gotten into you, Dominic? So what if I didn't come home for your birthday? You're a grown man. When did you become so petty?"

Alexander had been splashed as well, his suit stained with soup and wine. He hurried to Isabella's side, his voice full of concern. "Bella, are you alright?"

Bracing herself against a nearby cabinet, Isabella steadied her breathing and rose to her feet. She ignored Alexander completely, her gaze locked on Dominic.

Alexander turned on Dominic, his expression hardening. "You scared her half to death. Apologize to her right now!"

Dominic laughed coldly. "What, does it hurt to see her upset?"

Alexander snorted. "Of course it hurts. She's my sister. Why wouldn't I care? You're the one with the filthy mind. You twist everything into something dirty."

"Filthy?" Dominic's pupils narrowed. Without another word, he strode forward and slapped Alexander's face.

The sound echoed.

Alexander was stunned. He couldn't believe that Dominic had dared to hit him.

The rest of the guests stared in silence.

Dominic's fury flared, his eyes blazing red. That single slap was only the beginning. He lunged at Alexander with fists and kicks, each blow fueled by rage.

The memory of the crossed-arm toast, the moment Alexander placed food on Isabella's plate, the way they spoke to each other—it was intimate, ambiguous. Every detail fanned the flames consuming him.

"Ahh!" Alexander screamed.

Dominic's tall, broad frame and raw strength left the delicate young man defenseless. Alexander curled on the floor and cried out in pain, powerless to resist.

The room erupted with shouts.

Isabella stood frozen for a few seconds before rushing forward. She wrapped her arms around Dominic's waist and pulled with all her strength. "Stop it! Please, stop!"

Only after a long struggle did Dominic finally relent. Alexander lay bloodied and groaning.

Isabella flung herself between them and shielded Alexander with her body as she glared at her husband and growled, "Are you insane? Haven't you made enough of a spectacle?"

She could not fathom it. How could he explode like this, just because she hadn't come home for his birthday?

Dominic gritted his teeth. "Who's making a spectacle, Isabella? If you don't want this marriage, say it. Stop parading this filth around. What's the matter? You can't breathe unless you humiliate me and cheat behind my back?"

His words stunned her. It took a moment before she screamed in return, "Dominic! You bastard! What are you saying? When have I ever betrayed you? Alex is like a brother to me. Brother! You'd better apologize, or I'll never forgive you!"

"Brother?" Dominic sneered. He pulled out his phone, opened a photo, and tossed it at her feet.

"Sworn brother, right? Stop kidding yourself." His voice dropped low, thick with contempt.

A jolt shot through Isabella. She bent down, picked up the phone, and her face went pale. A startled cry left her lips as the phone slipped from her grasp and clattered to the floor.

Dominic's cold laugh sliced through the silence. "What now? Drinking crossed-arm toasts with your sworn brother? If I hadn't shown up tonight, what would've come next? Would you be in bed with him?"

Isabella's face drained of color, her lips trembling. "Dom… this isn't what it looks like. Please, let me explain—"

"Explain, my ass!" Dominic jabbed a finger at Alexander. "If you want to keep up this little charade of pretend siblings, fine. But don't take me for a fool."

"I-I didn't!" Isabella clutched at his shirt, desperate to explain.

But Dominic no longer cared to listen. Every moment from the evening—the toast, the glances, the twisting pain in his chest—fed his anger. He scoffed, shook off her hand, and stormed out.

Isabella panicked and moved to follow him.

Then Alexander's broken voice rose from the floor. "Bella… it hurts. I… I can't see. I can't see anything…"

She froze. Blood smeared his eyes, and his face was twisted in agony.

Isabella's expression wavered. At last she bit her lip and said, "I'll take you to the hospital."

She ordered two male employees to lift him up. Just as they were about to leave, Isabella remembered the phone. She stooped to retrieve it, then fixed her gaze on a petite young woman in the crowd.

Her voice turned cold. "Did you post this video, Vivian?"

Vivian Hale jolted, panic flooding her face. She was new to the company and hadn't realized Isabella had a husband. "Ms. Sinclair, I didn't know you were married—"

Isabella cut her off, "No need to explain. You're fired. Report to HR tomorrow and sign your termination papers."

Vivian's face collapsed in despair. "Ms. Sinclair, please…"

Isabella ignored her. She gave one last indifferent glance before walking out with Alexander.

Dominic sat in his car downstairs, smoking in silence. When Isabella never appeared, he shook his head, started the engine, and drove home.

'She has chosen Alexander again. No, even that isn't right. If a choice between me and another man exists at all, then I've already lost.' A bitter smile tugged at his lips. 'Seven years of marriage—is it truly ending?'

He had never imagined divorce with Isabella, but it seemed inevitable now. The only question was Lilith. He was a man and could walk away. But for the girl, what kind of scar would a divorce leave?

He let out a long, weary sigh.

Dominic could not remember how he made it home. When he opened the door, the apartment lay in silence. He pushed open the door to Lilith's room and saw Katherine curled on the bed, holding Lilith as they slept. Their breathing was soft and even.

Half the blanket had slipped to the floor, leaving most of Katherine's body uncovered. Her silk camisole had ridden up, the pale curve of her hip catching the dim light.

Dominic hesitated, then crossed the room quietly. He lifted the blanket and drew it over her before stepping out and closing the door.

Past midnight, the front door opened. Isabella slipped inside, her face drawn with exhaustion. The sharp stench of smoke hit her nose and sent her into a coughing fit.

The lights were off, but she could just make out a man's silhouette on the sofa.

Her chest tightened, yet she drew a steady breath and said softly, "Honey… happy birthday."

She flicked on the light and saw the coffee table's ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts.

"Save it. My birthday's already over." Dominic's voice was low, his expression unreadable.

Isaac smiled."Everyone knows Amaze Construction operates in real estate. Cosmos No. 2 is attractive, but it may not suit me. However…" He turned to Dominic. "I may not have much else, but I do have money. Mr. Fleming, keep bidding. If it's not enough, I'll cover the rest."At this, Dominic exhaled in relief. Gratitude showed in his eyes as he called out, "1.05 billion dollars!"Elijah's expression darkened. "Mr. Moore, as far as I know, JewelMed's debt is already as high as 1 billion dollars. If you lend money now, aren't you afraid it will all go to waste?"Isaac shook his head. "That's my business. It has nothing to do with you."Dominic smiled and echoed Elijah's earlier words. "Mr. Grant getting anxious? If you don't have money, why are you here?"Elijah snorted and fell silent, turning his focus to strategy. The price had reached 1.05 billion dollars. At this level, the host fell quiet, allowing time for consideration. After a long pause, Elijah spoke calmly. "1.1 billion

As soon as the host finished speaking, someone impatiently called out a bid."90,000,000 dollars!"Before the host could respond, Dominic spoke in a deep voice. "500,000,000 dollars."The entire venue erupted.Nearly 200 companies were present, and most had total valuations below 200,000,000 dollars. Dominic's opening bid of 500,000,000 stunned the crowd. However, those seated in the first two rows showed no change in expression. They understood the value of Cosmos No. 2.The host immediately grew animated. "Mr. Fleming of the JewelMed Group bids 500,000,000 dollars! It seems he is extremely optimistic about the prospects of Cosmos No. 2!"The atmosphere grew lively as quiet discussions spread through the room.Less than half a minute later, another voice entered the bidding.Stephen spoke calmly. "600,000,000 dollars."Dominic stiffened and turned sharply toward him, but Stephen only offered a faint, composed smile.Dominic frowned.Elijah, seated beside him, observed ever

Benjamin, however, wore a look of satisfaction as he said, "Speaking of which, you've taken care of Isabella for many years. I should thank you. If you have time, I'd like to treat you to a meal, Mr. Fleming."His tone was polite and courteous, yet Dominic still sensed a hint of provocation. At that moment, Isabella spoke. "Let's go."Benjamin quickly said, "I was—"Before he could finish, she turned and walked away. He had no choice but to follow.Dominic watched their retreating figures, deep in thought. 'Are those matters… really Benjamin's doing?'After a moment's thought, he sent Isabella a text.Dominic: [Let's meet later. Let's talk somewhere.]Isabella and Benjamin had already reached an empty table and taken their seats.Although the Skyline City branch of the Anderson Group was not qualified to participate in the bidding, it had no trouble securing a seat.At that moment, Isabella's phone vibrated. She glanced at it.Seeing this, Benjamin immediately asked, "Isabel

"Dominic!" Jewel called out to him.Jessica pouted and slipped out of his arms.'He's already with Katherine, and still…' Jewel cast Jessica a strange look. 'Men really do change once they have money.'She pretended not to notice anything, walked over, and sat beside Dominic. Clearing her throat lightly, she asked, "When did you get here?"Dominic smiled. "Not long ago."Inside the venue, the first row was arranged with one company per round table. Behind it, two or three companies usually shared each table. The setup was not due to a lack of space but was meant to highlight the special status of the first row. It was also a matter of traditional social etiquette in the country."There are still 20 minutes before it starts," Dominic said, glancing at the time.Jewel nodded and asked quietly, "Do we have a good chance this time? We only have 1 billion dollars, and I heard the starting price is already 80,000,000 dollars."Dominic replied vaguely, "I'll handle the bidding. As for

At that moment, Isaac spotted Dominic and waved in greeting. "Dominic!"Dominic nodded with a smile.Stephen saw him as well but said nothing, offering only a faint nod.Not far away, Elijah was chatting with a man. At the sound of Isaac's voice, both of them turned to look. The man said casually, "So that's Dominic, the chairman of JewelMed?"His voice was not loud, yet Dominic heard it clearly, and the tone was far from friendly.Elijah let out a cold laugh. "That's him."The man sneered, "A newly started company riding a wave of opportunity, and they get to sit in the same row as us? Cosmos Laboratory must have messed up the seating arrangement."He spoke without restraint, openly mocking Dominic alongside Elijah.Dominic remained calm. Anyone standing with Elijah was no friend of his.But the fiery woman beside him could not tolerate it. She walked over at once and said coldly, "Which idiot forgot to tie their pants tight and let you out?"The man froze, then his express

Dominic returned to the company and issued instructions to the finance department. At the same time, he asked Daniel to contact Abigail and have her go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible. From his perspective, that was all he could do. Kenny's situation was a family matter, and it would not be appropriate for him to interfere. If he compared it to his own experience, if he had argued with Isabella in the past and someone like Alexander had suddenly stepped in to stop it, that would have felt intrusive. After resting in the office for a while, the workday ended before he realized it. Dominic left with Katherine to pick up Lilith.…The next few days passed peacefully until December 20.It was Saturday, so Lilith did not need to go to school. Dominic woke after 8:00 a.m. and went to Katherine's room to check on them.Katherine was already awake. She glanced at Lilith, who was sleeping soundly with her butt in the air.Lowering her voice, she said, "Dominic, since i

"Maybe I will." Autumn stared at Dominic without blinking. "There really is no one more handsome than you."His heart skipped a beat. Her talent for teasing was not something to underestimate. Before long, they reached the top floor.Autumn asked for the CEO's office and walked over with Dominic.

This made Lilith uneasy. She reached up, pinched his nose, and asked softly, "Daddy, are you upset?"Dominic forced a smile. "Daddy isn't upset."The girl nodded obediently and hummed in reply. They got into the car.As Dominic started the engine, Lilith noticed the photos in the storage compart

Dominic walked in with a grin. "Wow, Miss Wright, I just painted a little picture. You are not actually moved already, are you?"Jewel wiped the corner of her eye and shot him a glare. "Who's moved? If you don't know how to talk, then talk less."Dominic dropped onto the sofa. "Anyway, there are t

Dominic raised an eyebrow. "You know when to bend. That's already better than your younger brother."Elijah replied flatly, "Zachary is an only child. He doesn't have a younger brother.""Is that so?" Dominic smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying it, and lifted his foot. The bodyguards r
