Chapter 6

Author: Anonymous
Matthew's POV

Bradley was more efficient than I expected. Julia sought me out less than three days later, when I was tidying up our marital home.

The house was supposed to be the place where I would spend the rest of my life with Julia. I had meticulously decorated it, from the bigger furniture, like the couch and the television, to the smaller household items, like the pots and pans.

I was going to die soon, but I couldn't bring any of these things with me. I didn't want Julia and Bradley to have them, so I spent the last two days packing everything and throwing them into the dumpster. I didn't even leave a single photo, erasing all traces of my existence from the house.

Julia arrived to find the house already emptied out. Confusion flickered in her eyes as she swept her gaze across the house, which looked completely different now, but it didn't take long for the mocking look I knew so well to appear on her face.

"Are you deep cleaning the house because you're making your final arrangements?" she sneered.

"You've guessed right," I replied with a smile.

Julia's expression darkened. "A troublemaker like you won't die even in a thousand years. You want a divorce, right? Let's do it."

It turned out that Bradley was very convincing; he managed to coax her into agreeing so quickly.

"But you have to transfer all your shares to me. Can you bear to part with them?" she asked.

Could I bear to part with them? Of course not. Half of our current company belonged to the Sawyers. It felt like Mom and Dad were still alive with the company still around. In fact, one of the reasons why I didn't divorce Julia earlier was because we couldn't come to an agreement on how to divide the assets.

There were plenty of times that I thought about divorcing her after she ruthlessly aborted our child. However, from her perspective, I separated her and Bradley with my shameless schemes, which was why I didn't deserve a single penny of the company's fortune.

Although the Snow and Sawyer families were working together, only the Sawyers had to bear the losses. Why was that? It wasn't my fault that she and Bradley broke up.

Why should I let her have all the benefits even after we get a divorce? Why should she get to freely enjoy a lavish lifestyle and immense wealth with her childhood sweetheart?

Besides, I believed Julia was at fault in our marriage. She was the one who was supposed to be kicked to the curb without a single penny to her name. She should also compensate me for all the benefits she got to enjoy after marrying me, such as her position as the company's CEO.

Naturally, we couldn't come to an agreement, which was why we remained stuck in our marriage. However, at that moment, I didn't want to die as Julia's husband. Just the thought made my stomach turn.

That was why I was willing to let her have my shares. I couldn't take them with me when I died anyway. I might as well donate the money that I got to an orphanage, treating it as my final good deed to the world.

"Fine. I'll sell them to you according to market price."

Julia stared at me in disbelief with wide eyes upon hearing my words. "You're actually willing to part with them?"

She seemed to recall something at that moment. She gritted her teeth and briefly muttered to herself before saying, "I can't believe that you're willing to abandon the Sawyer family's company for your freedom.

"If that's the case, I'll go home and mail the divorce agreement to you right now. You better not regret your decision. I'm the type of woman who never goes back on her word."

"I won't regret it," I said, scoffing.

Julia stormed out of the house.

I didn't understand why she was still upset even though all of her wishes were coming true. However, I also had no interest in figuring out what was going on in her mind.

Matthew's POV"How could you be so foolish, Julia?" I asked. "You shouldn't believe everything that you hear."Julia covered her face with her hands and started sobbing uncontrollably.I sighed softly, saying, "You're truly the most foolish person I've ever met, Julia. Did you know that I'm friends with both Dahlia and her boyfriend? Bradley only gave you the first half of the video, didn't he? He didn't show you the second half of it."I was only pretending to be her boyfriend that day to chase off her superior who was harboring malicious intentions toward her. After her superior left in a huff, we even video-called her boyfriend, who was studying abroad at the time."So, why didn't you just ask me about what happened? Or perhaps, you just subconsciously trust Bradley more than me?"Julia looked as if she had been struck by lightning. The light in her eyes was slowly snuffed out as she stared at me."No… How could that be? Didn't you divorce me because you got together with Dah

Matthew's POVI had never seen Julia in so much despair, but all I wanted to do at that moment was laugh."Stop lying to yourself, Julia," I said. "I have late-stage terminal cancer. It's not some other illness. I won't get better.""You won't know if you don't try," Julia said. "I'm begging you, Matt. Please try out the treatment."I sighed. "It's too painful. I don't want to be treated anymore. Besides, Mom and Dad are waiting for me on the other side. I want to reunite with them."Julia let out an anguished wail. "But what about me? What will I do when you reunite with them?""You still have Bradley, don't you?" I retorted. "The two of you can openly be together after I'm gone. Get out of my sight, Julia."I closed my eyes, feeling exhausted. However, Julia refused to give up just yet. She grabbed my hand and said, "There's no Bradley, Matt. The one I love has always been you. I only hurt you because you hurt me first by fooling around with Dahlia."You have no idea how ha

  • She Hated Me Alive, Loved Me Dying   Chapter 10

Matthew's POV"Besides, we're already divorced," I said. "We don't have anything to do with each other anymore, so please refrain from poking your nose into my business. You should go. Your beloved Bradley is still waiting for you at home."I wasn't sure why, but my last sentence made Julia agitated. She leaped to her feet and screamed as if she had lost her mind. "Who's going to care about you if I don't? Don't tell me that you're waiting for Dahlia to take care of you?"She's not even making the effort to visit you even though you're sick. Why are you still so hung up on her? Don't you know that she got married to someone else a few days ago?"I was utterly stunned by Julia's words. What did our current situation have anything to do with Dahlia Baxton?Tears suddenly spilled down Julia's face as I stayed silent. "You said that I'm the one in the wrong in our marriage, but when have you ever been loyal to me, Matthew? You deserve to die, after all."She didn't spare me another g

Matthew's POVSurprisingly, Julia didn't lose her temper this time when she heard my words, even though she definitely would have in the past. Instead, she bit her lip as tears welled up in her eyes."I just want to celebrate the New Year with you, Matt," she said.It had been a long time since she called me that. It was so upsetting that it sent a chill down my spine. My gaze turned even colder as I looked at her and said, "Don't call me that. You should go back to Brad now. Get out."I grabbed Julia's sleeve and tried to push her out of my room, but instead, she gripped the door handle and refused to let go. "Why didn't you tell me that you were sick, Matt?" she asked.I was briefly stunned and nearly burst out laughing. "What does that have to do with you? There's no need for you to concern yourself with my business."I forcefully peeled her hand off the door handle and slammed the door in her face.…I couldn't sleep again that night. The scent of cookies that permeated m

Matthew's POV"You… What are you doing here?" Julia asked.I placed the mirror down and lay on the bed. "Can't you see? I'm hospitalized. What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be spending time with your beloved Bradley?"They had gone through countless trials and tribulations to be together. I had assumed they would get married immediately. So, what was Julia doing here? Her presence was incredibly irritating.Julia's expression darkened. "Stop dragging Bradley into everything. Why are you staying in the hospital? Why are you alone? Why do you look like that? Don't tell me that you were actually diagnosed with cancer? Is the Grim Reaper finally coming for you?"She laughed, then continued, "It's about time!"My heart throbbed painfully. It turned out that it was still so easy for her to hurt me.I smiled and said, "That's right. I'm going to die soon. Are you satisfied now? Get out of my sight. I don't want to have to look at your face before I leave this world."Juli

  • She Hated Me Alive, Loved Me Dying   Chapter 7

Matthew's POVJulia worked quickly and delivered the divorce agreement the next day.As I looked through the terms, I couldn't help but feel she had been quite generous; she was willing to split half the assets with me. She was also buying my shares at the current market's highest price.I silently thanked her on behalf of the kids in the orphanage. After I signed on the dotted line, the two of us went to the courthouse to finalize the divorce. We finally no longer had any ties to each other after the staff member stamped the document.Bradley, who had been waiting excitedly for Julia outside the courthouse, approached us as we walked out of the building. They got into a car together, started the engine, and quickly left the area.As I watched their car disappear into the distance, I suddenly recalled an incident that happened not long after we got married, when our relationship was at its best.I had seen Julia off on a business trip. When we got to the airport, she held my ha
