Chapter 5

Author: Anonymous
Matthew's POV

I nodded at Bradley, saying, "I'm sorry, Bradley. I never should have come in between you and Julia. I wasted five years of your time. I'll give her back to you now. I hope that you can forgive me."

I then placed two documents on Julia's desk—a resignation letter and a divorce agreement.

Julia shot me a disdainful look.

"You want to resign and get a divorce?" she asked, scoffing. "Are you sure that you can bear to leave the company and me? Your tactics are as underhanded as ever, Matthew. Are you trying to use reverse psychology on me? What a joke."

She then grabbed the resignation letter and divorce agreement, tore them to shreds, and threw them at my feet.

Julia assumed that I was just scheming against her, but I truly wasn't. My feelings for her had always been genuine, but she never believed me.

I shook my head, saying, "I'll talk to HR myself. As for the divorce agreement, I suggest that you sign it as soon as possible. There's not much time left."

Julia was briefly stunned. "What do you mean there's not much time left? What are you plotting now, Matthew?"

She scoffed before continuing, "Don't tell me that you're actually going to die soon?"

She was right. My life was going to end soon. I wondered if my death would please her. But I didn't want to waste any more of my time on her, so I turned around and left the office. I closed the door behind me, sealing her fury inside.

Meanwhile, Bradley had left the office with me. He stood in front of me and blocked my path as I waited for the elevator.

"Don't be mad at Julia, Matthew," he said. "If you care about this position so much, I'll tell Julia to give it to you."

"Sure," I replied.

It was obvious that Bradley hadn't expected me to accept his offer. The way the color drained from his face was rather amusing.

I grabbed a fistful of his collar and said with a smile, "Your tactics are still as amateurish as ever, even though so many years have passed.

"However, they are effective on Julia. I'm going to need to trouble you to use these tactics of yours to convince her to divorce me as soon as possible. I just want to stay as far away as possible from you scums of the earth."

I emailed the HR department before leaving the company with my belongings. Truth be told, I didn't drop by the company that day because I was really looking forward to being named the head of the planning department, especially since I was going to resign soon.

I just wanted closure, since I had contributed greatly to the company over the last few years. However, Julia and Bradley ruined my wish.

…

The house was cold and quiet when I returned home. It was completely empty.

I suddenly felt like I was starving, so I ordered several food deliveries and gorged myself. It didn't take long before I started throwing up. I even began to hack up blood near the end.

As I stared at the fresh blood on the floor, for the first time, I came to the stark realization that I truly didn't have much time left. Anxiety gripped my heart as I unlocked my phone and dialed Julia's number. It didn't take long for her to pick up this time.

"Haven't you caused enough trouble in the day?" she snapped. "What the hell are you doing now?"

My heart turned cold at the disdain in her voice. My stomach started twisting even more painfully. Powering through the pain, I said, "Let's talk about getting a divorce, Julia."

Julia called me a lunatic and told me to die somewhere far away from her before hanging up on me. My calls wouldn't go through when I tried again.

She had plenty of time to waste, but the same couldn't be said for me. In the end, I decided to message Bradley.

"Convince Julia to divorce me. I'll reveal your secret if you don't."

Matthew's POV"How could you be so foolish, Julia?" I asked. "You shouldn't believe everything that you hear."Julia covered her face with her hands and started sobbing uncontrollably.I sighed softly, saying, "You're truly the most foolish person I've ever met, Julia. Did you know that I'm friends with both Dahlia and her boyfriend? Bradley only gave you the first half of the video, didn't he? He didn't show you the second half of it."I was only pretending to be her boyfriend that day to chase off her superior who was harboring malicious intentions toward her. After her superior left in a huff, we even video-called her boyfriend, who was studying abroad at the time."So, why didn't you just ask me about what happened? Or perhaps, you just subconsciously trust Bradley more than me?"Julia looked as if she had been struck by lightning. The light in her eyes was slowly snuffed out as she stared at me."No… How could that be? Didn't you divorce me because you got together with Dah

Matthew's POVI had never seen Julia in so much despair, but all I wanted to do at that moment was laugh."Stop lying to yourself, Julia," I said. "I have late-stage terminal cancer. It's not some other illness. I won't get better.""You won't know if you don't try," Julia said. "I'm begging you, Matt. Please try out the treatment."I sighed. "It's too painful. I don't want to be treated anymore. Besides, Mom and Dad are waiting for me on the other side. I want to reunite with them."Julia let out an anguished wail. "But what about me? What will I do when you reunite with them?""You still have Bradley, don't you?" I retorted. "The two of you can openly be together after I'm gone. Get out of my sight, Julia."I closed my eyes, feeling exhausted. However, Julia refused to give up just yet. She grabbed my hand and said, "There's no Bradley, Matt. The one I love has always been you. I only hurt you because you hurt me first by fooling around with Dahlia."You have no idea how ha

  • She Hated Me Alive, Loved Me Dying   Chapter 10

Matthew's POV"Besides, we're already divorced," I said. "We don't have anything to do with each other anymore, so please refrain from poking your nose into my business. You should go. Your beloved Bradley is still waiting for you at home."I wasn't sure why, but my last sentence made Julia agitated. She leaped to her feet and screamed as if she had lost her mind. "Who's going to care about you if I don't? Don't tell me that you're waiting for Dahlia to take care of you?"She's not even making the effort to visit you even though you're sick. Why are you still so hung up on her? Don't you know that she got married to someone else a few days ago?"I was utterly stunned by Julia's words. What did our current situation have anything to do with Dahlia Baxton?Tears suddenly spilled down Julia's face as I stayed silent. "You said that I'm the one in the wrong in our marriage, but when have you ever been loyal to me, Matthew? You deserve to die, after all."She didn't spare me another g

Matthew's POVSurprisingly, Julia didn't lose her temper this time when she heard my words, even though she definitely would have in the past. Instead, she bit her lip as tears welled up in her eyes."I just want to celebrate the New Year with you, Matt," she said.It had been a long time since she called me that. It was so upsetting that it sent a chill down my spine. My gaze turned even colder as I looked at her and said, "Don't call me that. You should go back to Brad now. Get out."I grabbed Julia's sleeve and tried to push her out of my room, but instead, she gripped the door handle and refused to let go. "Why didn't you tell me that you were sick, Matt?" she asked.I was briefly stunned and nearly burst out laughing. "What does that have to do with you? There's no need for you to concern yourself with my business."I forcefully peeled her hand off the door handle and slammed the door in her face.…I couldn't sleep again that night. The scent of cookies that permeated m

Matthew's POV"You… What are you doing here?" Julia asked.I placed the mirror down and lay on the bed. "Can't you see? I'm hospitalized. What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be spending time with your beloved Bradley?"They had gone through countless trials and tribulations to be together. I had assumed they would get married immediately. So, what was Julia doing here? Her presence was incredibly irritating.Julia's expression darkened. "Stop dragging Bradley into everything. Why are you staying in the hospital? Why are you alone? Why do you look like that? Don't tell me that you were actually diagnosed with cancer? Is the Grim Reaper finally coming for you?"She laughed, then continued, "It's about time!"My heart throbbed painfully. It turned out that it was still so easy for her to hurt me.I smiled and said, "That's right. I'm going to die soon. Are you satisfied now? Get out of my sight. I don't want to have to look at your face before I leave this world."Juli

Matthew's POVJulia worked quickly and delivered the divorce agreement the next day.As I looked through the terms, I couldn't help but feel she had been quite generous; she was willing to split half the assets with me. She was also buying my shares at the current market's highest price.I silently thanked her on behalf of the kids in the orphanage. After I signed on the dotted line, the two of us went to the courthouse to finalize the divorce. We finally no longer had any ties to each other after the staff member stamped the document.Bradley, who had been waiting excitedly for Julia outside the courthouse, approached us as we walked out of the building. They got into a car together, started the engine, and quickly left the area.As I watched their car disappear into the distance, I suddenly recalled an incident that happened not long after we got married, when our relationship was at its best.I had seen Julia off on a business trip.
