Chapter 4

Autor: Blessed Wealth
Kendrick's POV

I forced a smile before replying, "Didn't we promise we'd visit Idmark to see the Northern Lights someday? I already contacted a guide I knew."

Daphne let out a relieved sigh. Then, she kissed my forehead.

"Wherever you want to go, I'll be right there with you."

Her affection always left me wondering what was real. But once, I unlocked her phone while she was asleep.

Daphne had an entire note dedicated to Oliver. One entry read, "Took Oli skydiving in Nassland today. He had so much fun."

"Oli got into a fight with Mildred, so I bought him a private island to cheer him up. He loved it."

In another, she wrote, "Oliver came over today, and Kendrick's dog scared him. That mutt clearly isn't loyal. It has to go."

There was an entry for nearly every day, and each one left me reeling.

Daphne remembered every detail about Oliver—his moods, his preferences, and the things that made him happy.

But when I asked her to ride a Ferris wheel with me, she always refused, claiming she was afraid of heights.

When I was burning with fever and barely conscious, she'd been shopping abroad with Oliver.

When my dog of three years was poisoned, I cried until I couldn't catch my breath. Daphne had comforted me then, but the truth was, she'd been the one behind it.

Despite knowing it would only hurt, I forced myself to keep reading. She'd carefully note down Oliver's shoe size and every brand he liked.

A bitter smile tugged at my lips. It must have been agonizing for Daphne to pretend she cared about me when her heart belonged to Oliver.

The day I was discharged from the hospital was also Dad's birthday. I didn't feel like going to the party, but Daphne said, "Kendrick, your mother's ashes are still kept in the chapel on the estate. How long has it been since you last visited?"

She had a point, so I agreed to go.

Daphne rested her face against my chest and murmured, "Kendrick, I knew you'd always be the reasonable one.

"We can also announce that the company is being handed over to Oliver at the dinner and introduce him to the shareholders. It'll make things easier for him going forward.

"You've always thrown everything into work, darling. From now on, take it easy. I've got your back."

Her words sounded sweet, but all she was really thinking about was how to pave the way for Oliver to join the company.

The Shaw residence was no longer my home. My nightmare had begun the day Dad brought Oliver and my stepmother home.

Their schemes and attempts to compete for Dad's attention had never stopped, even though he was very much still alive.

Every time Dad looked at me, all I saw in his gaze was disgust and contempt. When Mom died, she took away the father who used to carry me on his shoulders and play with me.

I no longer expected anything from him.

But when Dad saw me in the wheelchair, his usually stern expression gradually softened.

Just then, Oliver walked over with Mildred on his arm. "Ken, you finally decided to come home. You have no idea how happy Dad is.

"Back then, when he called you shameless, he was only worried about you. He was afraid you'd end up with an STD.

"I heard about your accident. What happened? Did some woman you slept with come back looking for revenge?"

Oliver covered his mouth in exaggerated shock, and the act made my stomach turn.

I stared at him and replied calmly, "I'm perfectly fine. You don't need to worry about me. You might want to worry about yourself, though. Showing up to a birthday party with a hickey on your neck and not even bothering to hide it?"

Oliver pressed his lips together. Then, he adjusted his collar, trying to hide the mark on his neck.

Mildred shot him a skeptical look, and he hurriedly explained, "Don't listen to him. It's just a mosquito bite. He's always trying to make me look bad."

At that, Mildred turned away and started chatting with the other guests, wine glass in hand.

As she walked away, Oliver leaned closer and chuckled into my ear. "Oh, Ken. Do you know how many times Daphne begged for me while I was trying on this suit today?

"You can barely even stand now. There's a good chance you'll never be able to perform again. I doubt you'll ever satisfy her."

  • She Married Me to Hand Everything to Him   Chapter 10

Kendrick's POVDaphne looked devastated, as though she genuinely believed I was the heartless one. "Please don't do this, Kendrick," she pleaded. "I know I was wrong. I never should've taken those explicit photos and ruined your reputation. I never should've forced you to sign the company over to Oliver."I never should've crossed the line and slept with him. Please… Forgive me. We can start over and make things right."Just then, Oliver charged forward, panting as he yanked at Daphne's clothes. "You were supposed to love me! We got married, but all you've ever thought about is this bastard! "Isaac's your son too! Have you ever been there for him?"Then, he turned to me and snapped, "Kendrick Shaw! Even if you got down on your knees and begged, I'd never let you have her back!"I'd had enough of their drama. I glanced at Oliver, then calmly said to security, "This man's clearly lost it. Please escort him out."Ignoring his struggles, they clamped a hand over his mouth and dra

  • She Married Me to Hand Everything to Him   Chapter 9

Third-Person POVOliver lowered his gaze, his long lashes shielding his eyes and the resentment blazing in them. Gritting his teeth, he said, "If you won't marry me, I'll sell Kendrick's office. Daphne, if he ever comes back and finds out his company's gone, don't you think he'll hate you for the rest of his life?"His legal records have already been wiped. As far as the law is concerned, he's dead. That means your marriage to a dead man doesn't count anymore."His facade of gentleness finally slipped.Oliver knew his reputation was in ruins. No rich woman would ever bankroll him now, leaving Daphne as his only option. He had no choice but to cling to her. …Just like that, Oliver and Daphne rushed to the courthouse and got married. An aunt marrying her niece's ex-husband was too scandalous to celebrate publicly. They didn't even bother with a small ceremony. By Oliver's second day in Daphne's house, they'd already come to blows. He gathered every piece of clothing and e

Kendrick's POVUncle Samuel studied my face for a long moment, then shook his head. "Ken, I'm never getting married or having kids. One day, the company in Evonia will be yours. "Your mother used to joke that I'd better have something worthwhile to leave my nephew. So, I'm giving you the company. I hope you'll accomplish just as much as your mother did."He never asked why I'd left the country, or why I was confined to a wheelchair. Instead, he quietly sought out the best specialists to help me recover.Uncle Samuel hired six nutritionists and rehabilitation specialists to oversee my recovery. He even spared no expense to have me fitted with the most advanced artificial spinal implant available. In less than three months, I was back on my feet, walking slowly on my own. Before long, I was able to throw myself back into my research. During the development of our autonomous driving system, one of our partners asked to visit the lab. I hated interruptions and was about to turn

  • She Married Me to Hand Everything to Him   Chapter 7

Third-Person POVDaphne knew she and Oliver never should have crossed that line. If she could admit that much, then she could forgive Kendrick for exposing their private video in front of everyone. With that in mind, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number. Yet, all she got was a cold automated message. "The number you have dialed is unavailable."Daphne tried texting instead, but every message failed to go through. She rubbed her forehead in frustration. Kendrick must have been angrier than she'd ever seen him before. Still, she understood. She had been in the wrong, after all. The compromising photos from years ago had all been fake. They had been created solely to destroy Kendrick's reputation, so Mildred could call off her engagement to him and marry Oliver instead. In the end, Daphne still hurt Kendrick. He'd spent years branded as a cheating bastard because of her. He had every right to resent her.Later, Daphne instructed her secretary to purchase the most

Third-Person POVDaphne stepped up to the microphone. "I'm Daphne Gibson, Kendrick's wife. Happy birthday, Robert. And while I have everyone's attention, I'd like to make one more announcement."Kendrick has signed the transfer agreement. As of today, Fletcher Corporation belongs to Oliver!"As she spoke, her gaze fell on Oliver's flushed face, glowing with excitement. Yet, she couldn't help picturing Kendrick's pale face. She knew he'd been humiliated, but she couldn't embarrass Oliver publicly. Daphne figured she would just make it up to Kendrick when they got home. After all, he loved her so much. No matter what she did, he would always forgive her. With that in mind, she cleared her throat and motioned for the staff to display the transfer agreement on the large screen behind her. But instead of the contract, two familiar faces appeared. "Oli… I could stay in your arms forever," Daphne cooed."Easy, Daphne. Someone might see us. I only let this happen because I'm grat

  • She Married Me to Hand Everything to Him   Chapter 5

Kendrick's POVI looked down, refusing to let anyone see the bitterness in my gaze. So, that was it. Instead of buying me new clothes, Daphne had been fooling around with Oliver. She'd claimed she'd only watch from the sidelines, but in the end, she couldn't stay away from him. Refusing to give Oliver the reaction he wanted, I wheeled toward the restroom. When I came back out, I froze. Oliver had my mother's urn in his hands. Worse still, he was casually tossing it from hand to hand. Rage burned through me as I charged at him in my wheelchair. "Are you out of your mind? Put my mother's urn down!" I barked. "I knew you were cruel, Oliver, but I'd never thought you'd stoop this low."I shoved Oliver aside. He lost his balance, and his drink splashed all over his pants. Then, he leaned in close, his voice barely above a whisper as he said, "Kendrick, your whore of a mother gave birth to a bastard like you. Dead or alive, she was nothing but something for people to use."Wha
