Chapter 170

Author: Luna Starling
“Dad!”

Quinton’s small hands couldn’t get the puzzle pieces back into the box. His frustration boiled over, and he threw himself against Travis’s leg, sobbing.

Travis bent down, lifting his son into his arms to calm him.

Just then, a sharp cry rang out.

“Oh my God, her face is bleeding!”

“Get the staff! Bring disinfectant and some tissues!”

Quinton’s head whipped toward the sound. He saw Lily being helped to her feet by several guests, her hand covering her cheek. Blood seeped through her fingers.

“Dad! Aunt Lily’s hurt! Mom pushed her! I saw it with my own eyes!”

Travis’s gaze snapped to Nora. His voice was low, cold. “Didn’t I already warn you? Why can’t you leave your sister alone?”

The accusation pierced straight through her. For a second, her chest tightened until she could hardly breathe. Then she forced out a bitter laugh. “You really think I’m the one who won’t let go?”

Travis stared at her in silence, jaw hard, eyes icy.

Eric couldn’t stomach it anymore. “Mr. Luther

Cheers echoed up from the street below.Nora turned back to the screen, cold and steady. On the other end, Travis stood with his head tilted toward the sky, the shifting light of the fireworks softening the hard lines of his face, giving him an illusion of warmth.“Wow, that one’s huge! Must be imported from Japan!” someone shouted downstairs.“Do you think it’ll spell out words?”Gasps rose when the last firework shot upward and burst open, flooding the night sky with blazing light.“Oh my god! I thought it was a proposal but it says ‘Happy Birthday!’”“That’s so romantic, timed perfectly!”“Whoever planned this must be loaded. Definitely some rich guy showing off to his starlet girlfriend!”The crowd buzzed with excitement. Upstairs, silence pressed between Nora and Travis. He watched her through the screen. The colors flickered across her face, but they couldn’t thaw the chill in her eyes. When the final spark faded, he asked quietly, “You don’t like fireworks?”Her voice

Lily’s injury turned out to be minor. After the doctor bandaged her cheek, he told Travis to take her home.Outside the hospital, she looked up at him with watery eyes.“Travis… can I stay at your place for a couple of days?”She pressed a hand lightly to her face. Seeing the cold edge in his gaze, she quickly explained, “If I go home like this, my parents will question me nonstop. You know how strained things already are between them and Nora. If they blame her again because of me… I’ll never forgive myself.”In truth, she’d only asked because the news had been buzzing with how well she and Travis looked together. This was the perfect chance to push closer, to remind everyone she still belonged in his orbit.Travis’s eyes softened slightly. Nora rarely mentioned her family, but he knew their relationship wasn’t good. And since she was on her own now, maybe bridging that gap would be better for her.“Fine,” he said at last. “You can stay a couple of days.”Lily’s heart leapt. Tw

Nora had thought things with Quinton were finally softening between them. She hadn’t expected that the moment Lily showed up, her son would turn on her without hesitation, standing squarely at his aunt’s side. The whole atmosphere in the restaurant shifted.Eric didn’t know the full story, only that Nora had been unhappy for a long time. But now, watching Quinton lash out like a spoiled brat, Lily swooping in like a savior, and remembering what he’d heard about Travis never respecting Nora, he was starting to piece it together.“Kiddo,” Eric said evenly, eyes on Quinton who was still clinging to Lily’s side. “Your mom hasn’t done anything wrong. Neither you nor your dad has the right to judge her.”Quinton’s glare snapped toward him. “This is our family’s business. Stay out of it!”“Quinton!” Nora’s voice cut sharp as glass. “This isn’t your father’s house. Put away that spoiled-brat attitude.”It was the second time she had scolded him in minutes. His chest heaved, and then the

“Alright.”“Mom!”Quinton burst through the door, escorted by the bodyguard, and the first thing he saw was his mother smiling up at a stranger. It wasn’t just any smile. It was bright and unguarded, the kind of smile he and his father had never seen. For a moment, it was as if that man was the most important person in her world. At first, Nora didn’t even register that the sharp little voice was calling her. She was busy adjusting the strap of the new watch on her wrist.Eric, however, looked over at the boy. The resemblance was immediate, those sharp features carried a clear trace of Travis. Lowering his voice, he asked Nora, “Do you know this child?”Nora finally turned and saw him.Quinton’s cheeks were puffed up in outrage, his big eyes narrowed like an indignant little pufferfish.“What are you doing here?” Nora asked, her tone flat.He didn’t bother answering. With all the stubbornness of a charging bull, he barreled forward, wedging himself between her and Eric.“If I

Lily’s plan had worked, and she felt a swell of pride. She leaned closer, her voice soft, almost pitiful. “Quinton, don’t be upset. Maybe your mom just didn’t like this gift. If it had been meant for me, I’d have been so happy. I’ve never gotten a present from you before.”She was fishing for comfort, but Quinton was too heartbroken to notice. He clutched the battered gift box in his small hands. After a moment of quiet sobs, he bit down hard on his lip, his voice thick with hurt. “If Mom didn’t like it, she could’ve told me. Why smash it? I’m going to ask her myself!”Most days, Quinton seemed like the gentlest of children, but he was still the Luther family’s little precious. Once he set his mind on something, nothing could stop him.He slid into the backseat, his face still streaked with tears, and told the driver firmly, “No matter what it takes, I want to see my mom.”The driver, who doubled as his bodyguard, hesitated. He knew the boy couldn’t track her down alone. But the l
