Chapter 287

Author: Luna Starling
The club’s staff usually weren’t this strict.

After all, most people didn’t come to play golf, they came to make deals. And many women with some money and ambition knew it. They’d grit their teeth, buy the cheapest membership card, and hang around hoping to meet someone wealthy.

Normally, it didn’t cause trouble. The rich men who came here rarely turned down a little attention.

But today, things had clearly gone too far.

The staff exchanged uneasy glances before stepping forward to check Melinda’s membership.

She hesitated, her smile stiff, and reluctantly pulled out a plain white entry-level card. In front of so many people, her face burned with humiliation.

One of the staff members looked at the card, then said politely but firmly, “Ma’am, your membership doesn’t allow you to be in this section. Please return to your designated area.”

The words might have been polite, but the action wasn’t.

Two men in tuxedos moved forward, clearly intending to escort her out—by force if nece

Nora froze for a moment, unsure what he meant. Then Eric’s low, amused voice brushed past her ear.“If you’re not satisfied, I can have her apologize again. And again… until you are.”Just the thought made her scalp prickle. She glanced around and saw the crowd that had gathered. With Eric surrounded by his entourage, their presence had already drawn plenty of attention. Nora hated being stared at like this. She just wanted to end the scene as quickly as possible.“That’s enough,” she said, waving her hand hastily. “It’s fine. Just let her go.”Eric knew her temperament and didn’t press the matter. He turned slightly, his tone even.“You all heard her.”The staff immediately stepped forward toward Melinda. This time, they were more polite, gesturing for her to leave rather than dragging her out.Melinda’s face was stiff with humiliation as she walked away under the curious eyes of everyone around. When she was finally gone, Eric pulled out a chair and sat beside Nora. Melinda’s money hadn’t exactly come from clean means, but that was hardly unusual these days. Plenty of young women made their living as a sugar baby anyways. Most people might whisper behind her back, yet they still treated her politely to her face, no one wanted to offend the woman who could whisper into her boss’s ear.She never expected Nora to call her out so bluntly.Melinda’s face twisted with rage. She jabbed a manicured finger toward Nora, her expression contorted with spite.“Nora, who do you think you are? You show up here in those cheap clothes and still dare to sit in a place like this?“I don’t know what tricks you pulled to get in, but this club isn’t for people like you. Everyone here is a VIP. If you bump into the wrong person, you’ll regret it.”Her voice rose, shrill and ugly, drawing glances from nearby tables. Nora wanted to respond but couldn’t even find a space to speak.Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed across the polished floor.A man in a tailore

“It’s none of your business where I’m going,” Nora said coldly. “You don’t get to control me.”Travis felt anger flare in his chest, rising like a storm he couldn’t contain. His tone turned sharp and cutting.“No wonder you can’t even take care of Quinton. You call yourself a mother, but instead of looking after your kid, you seem a lot better at running around with other men.”The accusation hit her like a slap. Nora’s face flushed red. “Travis, not everything has to be as dirty as you think,” she snapped. “Eric and I are meeting a client. It’s work, not whatever twisted thing you’re imagining.”She didn’t want to waste another breath on him. Staying near this man even one more minute felt suffocating. She turned and walked away without looking back.Eric followed close behind. From a short distance away, Travis’s jaw tightened as he watched them leave. A dark look crossed his face, and after a moment’s hesitation, he followed them out.At the golf club later that afternoon, th

Nora took a deep breath as soon as she stepped out of the hospital room.Without Travis around, all the tension and judgment seemed to finally lift off her shoulders. Her knees felt weak, and just as she started to lose her balance, a firm grip caught her wrist.Eric steadied her, his voice low and filled with quiet reproach. “You can’t even take care of yourself like this.”Nora gave a faint, broken laugh. “You’re right. I can’t even look after myself. Maybe I really don’t deserve to be called a good mother.”Her voice trembled. “Travis’s words were cruel, but… maybe he’s right.”She looked lost, standing there in the sterile corridor with the fluorescent lights flickering above her. The woman who once glowed with confidence now looked fragile, almost hollow.Eric frowned slightly as he watched her stare toward the hospital room, unwilling to leave. He knew she wanted to stay by Quinton’s side, but he also knew that in her current state, she would only drown deeper in guilt an

Eric frowned slightly. “Travis, I’m not trying to meddle in your family matters. But right now, Quinton is still lying in that bed. He needs peace and quiet to recover. Can’t you see that?”Travis let out a sharp laugh. “Of course I can. But all of this started because of Nora’s carelessness. She’s his mother. If she can’t even look after her own child, she deserves to be called out. And you… What right do you have to tell me what to do?”Nora’s heart sank at his words. She lifted her gaze, her eyes filled with disappointment and hurt. “Travis, is that really how you see me? After everything we’ve been through, do you think so little of me?”Eric took a deep breath, trying to keep his tone calm. “Travis, I understand you’re angry and worried, but blaming her won’t solve anything. What matters now is helping Quinton recover. Nora’s been through a lot lately. She didn’t want this to happen.”Travis refused to listen. “Through a lot? Who hasn’t? That’s no excuse for neglecting her chi
