Aiden's POV

Daryl Watkins inserted the straw into his drink, took a couple of sips, and his eyes lit up at once.

"Oh my, you actually remembered! You remembered that I said I liked extra mocha sauce in my java chip frappe! You're the best, Bridget!"

Bridget Ellison casually replied, "When have I ever forgotten anything you said?"

The other people in the room also agreed loudly with her. "Alright, we all know that you remember every single thing about us!"

"Yeah, and since you're dating, I bet you never forget a single birthday or anniversary either!"

Bridget turned to me and grinned widely. I just continued sipping on my bottle of water, keeping my eyes down without responding to her.

"Why aren't you drinking the frappe?" she asked, inserting the straw into the peach frappe and taking a few sips before placing it into my hands.

"Here, I've already tried it. It's not too cold or too sweet. It won't give you a tummy ache."

The few guys sitting across from us began clicking their tongues, looking at us with faux disgusted looks on their faces like they couldn't bear to watch us being lovey-dovey with each other.

I just gripped the peach frappe tighter, staring at the ice floating in the plastic cup.

Daryl leaned over just then and said, "Bridget? I've never tried that drink before. Can I try it?"

"Go ahead."

After her reply, the drink in my hands was suddenly gone. She had taken it straight out of my hands and handed it over to Daryl.

However, he didn't take the drink from her. Instead, he just lowered his head and sipped straight from the straw, taking a few massive gulps until half the cup of contents was gone.

"Oh, damn. I didn't mean to finish everything. My bad, Aiden. I forgot to leave you more. Why don't you take my drink instead?"

He then slid his half-empty java chip frappe toward me. I just shook my head and said, "It's fine."

"Just take it and drink it," he said. "I promise I'm not contagious."

His voice was loud and clear, and he suddenly saluted at me for some reason.

Everyone else in the room exchanged glances and tried not to laugh out loud, but I didn't. A short while after that, everyone else burst out into loud, deafening laughter.

Bridget chuckled and shook her head in a helpless manner while Daryl was doubled over with laughter.

I couldn't remember how many times I'd attended gatherings with Bridget's friends like this. However, I still didn't know what they kept laughing about.

Eventually, the laughter died down. Some of them glanced at me before quickly looking away. Bridget's face turned dark.

"Daryl has already apologized to you. What else do you want from him?"

I stared at her frown, wanting to say that I just didn't get their inside joke. However, she grabbed the java chip frappe and handed it to Daryl, along with the peach frappe.

"He doesn't want them, so they're both yours, Daryl."

She then turned to me with an impatient frown and said, "It's just a damn coffee, Aiden Rosario. Quit making my friends uncomfortable just because of that. It's not like he did it on purpose anyway."

Daryl added quietly, "No, it's okay. It's all my fault anyway." He then took both drinks and slinked back to his seat with his head down.

The atmosphere was tense for a couple of seconds. Then, someone else spoke up and said, "Alright, let's play a game!"

However, Bridget didn't seem interested anymore and just sat to the side while scrolling mindlessly on her phone.

We'd been dating for four years.

Bridget remembered that Daryl liked extra mocha sauce in his java chip frappe. She remembered that her other friends had spent countless sleepless nights.

However, she couldn't remember that I was deathly allergic to peaches.

If I really took a sip of that peach frappe earlier, I would have already passed out from asphyxiation by now. But she would probably just think that it was a separate occasion, or maybe that I had bad luck, or that I was simply sick to begin with.

Aiden's POVKeith waved to me."You alright?""I'm fine," I replied.Mandy ran up to me, glancing tentatively at Bridget then back at me. She then lowered her head and asked, "Is that your girlfriend?""My ex-girlfriend.""Was she trying to get back together with you?""Yeah."Mandy swallowed the rest of her words and rubbed her hands together in a sheepish manner.I noticed and said, "If we really got back together, then I wouldn't have referred to her as my ex-girlfriend just now."Mandy cheered up almost instantly, her footsteps turning lighter as we went back to the table. "Well then, if you have any questions or anything you don't understand about work, feel free to ask me anytime. I promise that I will tell you everything that I know!"I nodded, spotting Bridget still standing in the same corner in my peripheral vision. Her shoulders sagged, and she looked like all of the energy had just been drained out of her.…A few days passed, and Bridget didn't come looking fo

Aiden's POVI quickly stopped Keith."It's fine. That woman out there is looking for me," I said, leaving the table and walking out of the restaurant. While walking toward Bridget, she was still glaring daggers at Mandy through the window. I called out to her, and she finally walked over to me with a dark look on her face.I led her to a corner."You broke up with me because of her, didn't you?"I scratched my nails against my palm and sighed helplessly."Do you still not understand why I broke up with you in the first place, Bridget Ellison?"She looked like she hadn't dressed up in a long while. Her hair was disheveled, her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked like she hadn't slept well in ages. When she heard my question, she lowered her head and stared at her feet. Her voice was hoarse as she replied, "I remember now. You're really allergic to peaches. And I still gave you a peach frappe the other day. You would've had to be hospitalized if you actually drank it."Daryl th

Third-Person POVIt hadn't even crossed Bridget's mind that she could have just bought something else. She was just too lazy to think of it.Sarah had to go back to work, and Bridget was politely asked to leave. It was still pouring outside, even harder than before, and it blurred Bridget's vision. She recalled the photos that she and Aiden had taken together in their graduation gowns that Aiden still used as his phone screen wallpaper. She suddenly remembered about the graduation gowns. They hadn't been the rentals. She'd actually bought replicas of the exact graduation gowns because she promised Aiden that they would wear them again for their wedding photos one day.But the gowns… She'd already thrown away the box that had been holding the gowns she'd bought. There seemed to be something else in the box too, and she finally remembered what they were. The box contained photos of them in college, their graduation photos together, the graduation gown replica, anniversary gifts to

Third-Person POVDaryl was still apologizing hysterically on the phone while Bridget was frantically pressing on the elevator buttons."Did Aiden really leave? Was it all because of me? I'm sorry, it was my fault! I never should have bought the peach mille-feuille for him, or that peach frappe either! It's all my fault…"I don't have any reason to continue living anymore. I don't have the courage to live anymore. I should just go and kill myself now!"Daryl used to always be the sunshine of the group, and he would never say anything like this or even joke about it. So, the first thing on Bridget's mind when she finally got down to the ground floor wasn't to go after Aiden.Instead, she drove all the way to Daryl's place, worried sick that he would actually try and do something foolish. After settling his emotions, she stayed with him until dawn broke, just to make sure that he was really alright. When she finally left, Daryl held on to her hand and asked, "Bridget, is Aiden real

Aiden's POVThen, I got into the elevator and went down.It was a dark and still night as I walked out of the apartment complex. My Uber driver helped me put my suitcase in the trunk."Did you leave anything behind? This is a late-night flight you're catching, and it's going to be hard for you to come back for anything you might have left behind."I got into the back seat and said, "No. Whatever I left behind, I don't want it anymore. Let's go."The Uber then drove out of the neighborhood. Half an hour later, just as I was about to reach the airport, Bridget finally called."Are you throwing another one of your temper tantrums again? What did you mean by saying you weren't coming back?"And what did you mean by wanting to break up with me? You're just going back to your hometown for a few days, aren't you?"I looked at the quiet streets and trees whizzing past outside the window.I'd lived in this city for seven years ever since my freshman year, and every inch of this place w

Aiden's POVBridget, standing behind me, froze at once."Since when?""Since birth."She then raised her voice at me and spoke sharply. "Then why didn't you say so earlier? Don't you know that Daryl purposely bought this cake for you? And now you've gone and wasted his good intentions!"I turned around and saw her holding the cake and a fork in her hands. My face was dark, and she could immediately tell that I was annoyed, so she softened her tone with me. However, her words were still condescending toward me, and she sounded helpless as she said, "Fine, fine. We won't buy anything peach-related for you anymore next time. Are you happy now?"She then sighed long and hard afterward, as if she were the one being charitable to me and I should be thankful to her for her compromise and know when to stop. From the very start, she still thought that I was simply throwing a temper tantrum and that things would all blow over if she just played along with me this once.I simply hummed
