Chapter 2

Author: Summer Sway
Sophia was briefly stunned before she fixed a nonchalant expression on her face and sneered.

"Against the law? But did anyone see what I did?"

She tightened her hold on Louis, saying, "I won't go back to you no matter what schemes you come up with, Xavier. After all, I've already met Louis' father. He said that he'll let us get engaged after I graduate university and join Grant Group.

"So please, don't go around telling people that I'm your ex-girlfriend. I won't be able to take the humiliation!"

I barked out an indignant laugh as I took in her utterly serious expression. "What makes you think that a useless piece of trash like you who isn't even in the top 50 students of the school will catch Grant Group's eye, Sophia? You'll only be employed there in your dreams!"

Silence suddenly fell over the room. Everyone turned to look at Sophia. After all, I had only spoken the truth.

Sophia's results were nothing to write home about, and she didn't have any special talents. Joining Grant Group was nothing more than a pipe dream.

I still remembered how Dad had firmly opposed my decision when he found out that we were together. He told me that as the sole successor of Grant Group, I had to prioritize my studies above all else.

I had worked myself to the bone to achieve first place in every exam, using my actions to prove that love wouldn't affect my academics. Only then did Dad relent.

To ensure that Sophia would be a good match for me in the future, I had even used my college entrance exam results to make a promise with Dad.

If I was named the top student in the province for the SAT, the company would sponsor Sophia for the next ten years under the guise that she was an outstanding student, giving her a million dollars every year.

On top of that, she would immediately be invited to join Grant Group after she graduated university. The company would nurture her and give her a solid foundation to support me in the future.

However, I never could have imagined that Sophia would dump me without hesitation just because she was under the impression that she was about to make it big. Furthermore, she had even burned my ID and admission ticket for Louis of all people.

I felt a little relieved that I had always kept a low profile. If I hadn't, I never would have found out that Sophia was such a sycophant.

Sophia swiftly snapped back to her senses. She grabbed her phone and brandished the message that one of the special assistants at Grant Group had sent to her.

She looked incredibly smug when she said, "A clueless person like you couldn't possibly fathom the thoughts of the wealthy. Stop being envious. You'll have plenty of time to regret your actions once the SAT are over."

She wrapped her arm around Louis' waist after she was done speaking. She then addressed Louis' lackeys behind them, saying, "Let's go. I've specially ordered a personal luxury car just for today. We'll be able to make it to the exam hall if we leave now."

Everyone looked at her in awe upon hearing her words.

"You're going to be a big shot in the future, Sophia! Of course, you need a personal car!"

"Amazing! Everyone's going to be green with envy when I tell them that I rode in the same car as an elite like Sophia."

"It's really expensive to order a seven-seater luxury car. Looks like she'll be getting Grant Group's funding soon. Louis must feel so honored to be by your side from now on."

"According to what I've heard, Grant Group will give her a million dollars every year. That's ten million dollars in ten years! The cost of ordering the car is just pocket change to her!"

Louis' lackeys continued to chatter among themselves as they led Sophia and Louis out of the building.

I couldn't help but feel how absurd the entire situation was. Did they forget that they were going to take their SAT? They were behaving as if they were going on a trip instead. Would they even be able to make it to the exam hall when they were only ordering the car now?

However, it was none of my concern. I turned around and made my way toward the side gate of the school, slipping into the car that Dad had sent to pick me up.

Dad had already filed a report that my ID and admission ticket had been destroyed beforehand. Due to the urgent circumstances, he had also sent a fleet of cars to clear a path for the car that I was in. As a result, I arrived at the exam hall in less than five minutes.

Dad, who was waiting outside the school, immediately spotted me. He hurriedly led me to the exam office.

After verifying my identity via facial recognition and other documentation, the staff member stamped my document. I was then directly led to the exam hall.

Hilariously, Sophia and Louis still hadn't arrived even by the time I finished writing my name. Their group only arrived one minute before the exam started, bursting into the hall while looking out of breath. They looked utterly flabbergasted when they looked up and saw me.

"Carrie Tillman? That's impossible. How could she be the top student in the province?" Sophia exclaimed. "Something's wrong, Xavier. Why are you only in second place? There's only a one-point difference between your scores. This can't be happening!"Carrie is always in second place. Her scores are much worse than yours. This is impossible! There must be something wrong with the scores!"I looked down and adjusted my sleeves before saying calmly, "There's no mistake. I intentionally left the last question in the last exam blank."Sophia stared at me with wide eyes. "You… You did that on purpose?""That's right," I said as I rose to my feet and grabbed my bag. "Getting first place doesn't matter to me anymore. I already received an acceptance letter from an overseas university a few days ago. I didn't answer the question because I wanted to put an end to your delusion that you still have a chance with me."I lifted my head and looked at her one last time. "You can rot here for t

I thought that Sophia was behaving strangely. I couldn't believe that she still had the nerve to seek me out. Hadn't she learned her lesson after being detained for a week?I still hadn't snapped back to my senses when she clutched my hand tightly and said, "You were able to complete your SAT without a hitch. Based on your capabilities, you'll definitely get first place, right? "As long as you get first place, the promise that Mr. Grant made to you will still count! That's why you showed up today, right? It's because you can't bear to let go of me too."Sophia paused for a moment. She sounded even more anxious when she continued, "I've thought things through. I can report for work at Grant Group as long as you get first place! I don't need to attend university. "It's fine. I can start from the lowest position in the company. I can wait for you! We can make Grant Group even better once you've graduated from university!"Sophia looked utterly serious as she rambled away. She also

I stopped looking at Sophia and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I then approached the police officers, saying, "I thought that Sophia asked me to meet her at the classroom because she wanted to give me a surprise. So I was recording on my phone when I entered the classroom."I offered my phone to them after I was done speaking. The color drained from Sophia's face when she heard me. She immediately leaped into action, reaching her hand out to snatch my phone out of my hand. However, she was too late. The police officer had already taken my phone from me and pressed the play button. The video wasn't long, but the quality was good, making everything crystal clear.Sophia stood next to the brazier, waving the documents she was holding with an unconcerned expression. She then slowly tossed them into the fire."You actually believed me when I told you to hand over your ID and admission ticket for safekeeping," she sneered. "Be good and don't show up for the exam, Xavier. Don't make

The crowd fell silent for two seconds before someone let out a loud gasp."The CEO of Grant Group, Mr. Grant, is Xavier's father?""Both of them have the last name, 'Grant'.""So, Mr. Grant actually came to pick up his son! It has nothing to do with Sophia at all!""On top of that, Xavier was escorted into the exam hall after the exam office verified his identity. Why did Sophia accuse him of illegally sneaking into the hall? She also accused him of cheating.""I'm going to laugh myself to death. Sophia even told Mr. Grant to release an official announcement regarding Xavier cheating."Sophia stood rooted to the spot. As she slowly let go of my wrist, she mumbled, "What…"She whipped her head toward me. Her lips were trembling when she stammered, "Xavier… You… How could you be Mr. Grant's son?"I shot a look of contempt at her before walking over to Dad's side. "Why not? Did you really believe that Grant Group would choose to train you if it weren't for me, Sophia?"Everyone t

Sophia was visibly stunned when she noticed Dad. She swiftly shoved me aside and rushed toward him, exclaiming, "Mr. Grant! What are you doing here?"When Louis realized that the CEO of Grant Group, Jeremiah Grant, had arrived, he hastily clapped the dust from his hands and hurried over to them. He had only taken two steps when he seemed to recall something and grabbed Sophia's arm.Lowering his voice, he whispered, "Grant Group probably knows that today is the last day of the SAT, Sophia! That's why they purposefully sent someone to pick you up to familiarize you with the inner workings of the company!"Unfortunately, they arrived just in time to see that cheater, Xavier. Mr. Grant is probably misunderstanding your relationship with him!"Sophia whipped her head up to look at Dad. Her voice was dripping with sincerity when she said, "There's been a misunderstanding, Mr. Grant! We don't have anything to do with each other! I noticed his misconduct before the exam and already took

"Why are you still standing around in a daze?" the examiner snapped, shooting an irritated look at Sophia and the others. "The exam has started! Take your seats!"Only then did Sophia and the others snap back to their senses and stumble to their seats.Sophia's face was still full of disbelief when she walked past me. "You… Why are you…"I ignored her, kept my head down, and answered the questions. I had an easy time since they weren't too hard.Meanwhile, Louis kept glancing at me from the corner of his eye. His pen even slipped from his fingers several times. It didn't take long before the exam was over.A powerful force collided against me seconds after I left the exam hall. Sophia roughly grabbed my arm and roared, "How did you get into the exam hall? There's no way that you got a replacement for your ID and admission ticket so soon. How the hell did you sneak into the hall?""Let go, Sophia," I said, looking down at her hand that was wrapped around my arm.Not only did she
