"You should talk some sense to this old senile." He heard a woman shout from across the hallway while he was going down the stairs. "He must have gone insane for even considering this ridiculous idea."

"Perhaps... you should listen to your sister, James." He could hear voices arguing as he passed by the living room.

"I have never been more sane in my entire life, Alicia." Another slightly irritated voice joined in the altercation. "I know exactly what I'm doing."

He could already guess what they were squabbling about. But he was not about to join them, presuming the topic was about him.

No! Not a chance.

He tried to tiptoe his way out, hoping his father would not notice his presence. He knew he had to get out of there before he became the center of their attention.

But—

"Isaac!" His father's authoritative voice boomed across the hallway, forcing everyone in the room to shut their mouths. At the same time, it made him freeze in his spot.

"Good! You're here." His father greeted him with

  • She's Trouble: His Bride with a Dollar Sign   82 - More like a physical connection

Owen had just come from the store. Seeing her approach from the corner, he immediately invited her to his modest apartment. He opened the door, ushered her to the kitchen, and dropped the grocery bags on the counter.Owen was unaware that she would be visiting today. But that was Charlie, just like Mary Poppins, lurking in the shadows, making delightful wonders and popping in just when she was needed the most.“What are you doing here, Charlie?” Owen asked when she had suddenly appeared outside his apartment dressed in a crop top, denim pants, a leather jacket, and a pair of sneakers. From the day Charlie walked into the orphanage, carrying a worn-out teddy bear and a smile that was missing a couple of front teeth, Owen knew she would be different. Well, he was not wrong about that. Years later, they formed an unbreakable bond that was stronger than blood relations.Charlie had been a ray of sunshine in a world that had been cold and dark. She was not just beautiful, but she also brou

“Isaac, over here.” Somebody called to him as soon as he entered the spacious room. He quickly spotted his friend, who was also joining him at the meeting.“Hey, man.” He addressed his friend with their private handshake. His friend was representing him today as his lawyer. “Ivan, you look like you have been working on your tan.” He could not help but notice the bronze complexion in his friend’s skin.It had been a week since Isaac last saw him, as Ivan had been away, dealing with a lawsuit. But it seemed he was not only working on his case, but clearly had found himself busy with something else.Isaac felt a twinge of envy, suddenly longing for the carefree life that he once enjoyed in his youth. Remembering the adrenaline pumping through his veins as he dropped everything and just hopped in his car, driving to wherever fate would lead him. However, responsibilities forced him to grow up sooner than he should, altering his priorities and ultimately his future. Now, Isaac inherited a

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!Isaac clenched his fist, crumpling the piece of paper on his desk before turning it into a jagged ball. Then, with a surge of anger, he hurled the report across the room, his frustration boiling over into a violent explosion.“Damn it! How was he getting all this?” Isaac blurted, fuming in disbelief at the amount of data that had been leaked to their rival. How many secrets had their rival gotten their hands on? Luckily, they caught it before it was too late.A mole seemed like the obvious logical explanation. A traitor had burrowed deep within the company, probably hiding in plain sight. Still, the question lingered—who in his company would betray him? Why would anyone dare risk their career and reputation? What could drive someone to such treachery? Was it the allure of a larger paycheck from his competitor, or was someone seeking revenge for a past transgression committed under his father’s administration? Could it be a personal grudge against the company or even

Kring! Kring! Kring!“Ahhh!” She growled out of frustration. The jarring clang of the alarm pierced her ears, wrenching her from deep slumber. The sensation of cool sheets that clung to her skin. A stark contrast to the warm, bright light spilling into her room through the enormous windows. It must already be late morning. Still, she ignored it and wished to return to her enchanting dream. The relentless ringing hammered at her eardrums. Each shrill note threatened to split her head, to make her bleed. Defeated, she surrendered any hope of sleep. Peace would only return if she silenced that merciless clamor.Never bothering to open her eyes, her right hand crawled on top of the pillow. It reached the side table where she remembered leaving her phone. Once in her hand, she answered it without looking. She slumped her head back into the pillow, leaving the phone on speaker.“Charlie, are you there? I need to talk to you.” Her friend’s excited voice echoed in the room, but she could not

After bidding the final guest farewell, Isaac entrusted the ballroom’s aftermath to Tom’s capable hands. As he began to climb the grand staircase, each step echoed softly against the marble floors, mingling with the distant, fading chatters of the staff that was still buzzing downstairs. Likewise, the air held a faint scent of champagne, clinging to him as he ascended with heavy strides and slight hesitation. At the top of the landing, the hush of the empty hallway pressed heavily against his senses. He paused before his bedroom, but instead of entering, he turned and lingered outside the door across the hall. For a minute, he stood still, just staring at the heavy door.“Charlie…” Isaac finally called to his wife, but not a sound echoed behind those walls. But it was late, so she might already be resting.Yet the longing to see her tugged at him, leaving him restless and unsteady. As he reflected on the evening’s event, regret coiled in his chest. He realized belatedly he had made an

No matter how extravagant the party was, it always ended the same way as any other party. Guests left with their companions, with someone new, or alone, each carrying a different sense of satisfaction, disappointment, or indifference. Some confidently walked straight out the door, others barely kept their feet steady, stumbling here and there, their steps betraying their drunkenness. On the other hand, the host had to deal with the aftermath. It was as if a storm had just rampaged through what was once a perfectly decorated ballroom. Ultimately, the celebration had either achieved its purpose or failed miserably. But first, where was her husband?“Have you seen Isaac?” Charlie approached her husband’s best friend, who was still busily dealing with a few remaining guests. Her gaze scanned the room, searching through the thinning crowd, but it was to no avail. Instead, her sight landed on a pair of astute eyes that had seen their fair share of victories and disappointments.“Yeah, he wa
