Chapter 190

Author: Sienna Yates
It was that awful Matty again—him and his dad.

And… his mom.

Sharon was holding Matty's hand, leaning close, talking to him with a soft, warm smile on her face.

It was so different from the cold, distant look she always gave him.

Theo felt something stir, faint and blurry, like an old photograph half-lost in memory. She used to smile at him like that too, didn't she?

When had that stopped? When had her eyes turned so cold?

He followed the three of them from a distance, watching as they rode the Ferris wheel, the carousel, the pirate ship.

They even played the balloon shooting game.

Matty won a stuffed animal, then grinned like an idiot as he handed it to Sharon.

She took it with a laugh, gave him a thumbs up, clearly impressed.

Theo scoffed.

He was way better at shooting than Matty.

And yet, seeing that smile on his mother's face—it felt like something sharp lodged in his chest.

He muttered under his breath, "Grandma was right. Mom really hasn't seen much of the world. It'

Sharon looked at Thomas. He pulled out an invitation. "I have a banquet to attend this weekend. Would you do me the honor of being my companion?" Without hesitation, Sharon agreed. "Sure." Thomas smiled. "I'll have my assistant bring the contract over in a moment. If you have any requests, you can make them at the same time." Sharon had already skimmed through the Ferrero family contract. It was flawless, almost as if it had been custom-made for her. She suspected Thomas himself had drafted it. "I have no requests," she said. Thomas made a call, and soon Liam arrived with the contract in hand. Seeing Sharon, he greeted her with a bright, professional smile. "Miss McKinzie, good to see you again." Sharon smiled in return. "Liam, long time no see." No wonder Liam's courtesy had seemed a bit over the top—he wasn't Thomas's friend at all, but his assistant. Liam handed over the contract. Sharon read it carefully, then nodded lightly. "All good." Thomas said, "If t

"During that period, Sharon was working overtime every day, staying up late night after night… she even lost a lot of weight," Wendy continued. Securing a partnership wasn't just about agreeing on a price. Sharon had to draft a detailed plan according to the client's requirements. Only when they were satisfied would they sign the contract. Her proposals had been rejected twice already. Every time, Wendy watched Sharon stay up late revising the plan and felt a pang of guilt—she knew she couldn't help much with the work. Sharon had to shoulder it all herself. They chatted a little longer when a knock sounded at the office door. Loki entered, holding a stack of documents. The moment he appeared, every eye in the room instinctively turned to him. Loki froze, a faint chill running down his spine. His smile stiffened, and he gulped nervously. Why were Sharon, Wendy, and Thomas all looking at him so strangely? "Uh…" Loki hesitated at the doorway, unsure whether to step in. "I… I

Wendy let out a sly smile. "One of the bosses was from Yuicuador, and he absolutely despises people who are late. So, we came up with a plan to make Scott miss the meeting, lose the order, and let us snatch it right from under him." Sharon had been personally trained by Thomas. Though she didn't have much patience for Scott either, she wouldn't act just to vent frustration or punish him for her own satisfaction. As Sharon often said, "Venting for the sake of venting is something only children do. If you act, you might as well get something out of it. Otherwise, alerting the target too soon gives them a chance to prepare next time, and we end up losing. The goal is to both teach them a lesson and gain an advantage—then it's worth it." Sharon wasn't just patient—her emotions were remarkably steady. They waited. And waited. Until finally, the opportunity came. Hearing Wendy's words, Thomas raised an eyebrow. "You staged a car accident?" Wendy immediately bristled. "Scott mus

That wasn't something the shareholders concerned themselves with. In the business world, social leverage and good fortune were also part of one's strength. Back then, when everyone supported Victoria's entry into the Kalen Group, wasn't it precisely because the Walton Group and the Malcolm Group had handed out so many lucrative incentive deals, allowing everyone to make a profit? Now, Sharon's momentum within the Kalen Group was unstoppable. She had first defeated Silas, then taken over part of the Malcolm Group's resources. Her future was boundless. That was far more tempting than the handful of "benefit deals" the Malcolm Group had once offered. Quite a few shareholders aligned with Richard had already begun, in secret, to shift toward Sharon's side. But that was bound to draw the attention of both Richard and Rick. Richard might still tolerate it. After all, no matter how fiercely the younger generation fought, the one who rose in the end would still be a member of the

Hearing Thomas say that, Sharon paused for a moment. As for what Loki actually looked like, she truly hadn't paid much attention. The feeling was strange—like knowing someone, yet having no clear or concrete impression of their appearance. Only after Thomas pointed it out did Sharon begin to think about it. Loki did look… decent enough. Back when Wendy was looking for a bodyguard, she had casually mentioned wanting someone easy on the eyes. Because of her line of work, Wendy had always liked good-looking men and women. She wanted someone attractive, and Sharon hadn't given it much thought. Now that Thomas suddenly brought it up, Sharon took a few seconds to react before saying, "…He's alright, I guess." Thomas lifted his long lashes slightly, his gaze dark and unreadable as it settled on her. "You think… he's just alright?" Sharon didn't understand why Thomas kept circling back to Loki's looks. She asked, "Do you think he's not?" Thomas fell silent. After a few

As a professional bodyguard, Loki possessed exceptionally sharp instincts and was far more sensitive than the average person. Yet, despite encountering Jamie several times, Loki had never sensed any killing intent from that dangerous man. Now, upon seeing Thomas, what surprised Loki was that Sharon's attitude toward him seemed different from how she treated others. On the surface, there didn't appear to be much distinction. But in her words and actions, in her expressions and the look in her eyes, the difference was unmistakable. Seeing Loki, Thomas raised an eyebrow meaningfully. He turned to Sharon. His deep, ink-dark eyes settled on her, his lips still curved in a smile—yet somehow, it carried an unspoken sense of pressure. "Sharon, this is…?" Sharon explained instinctively, "His name is Loki. He's the bodyguard Wendy hired for me." For Loki to have been chosen as Sharon's bodyguard, he wasn't just skilled—he was also quick-witted and perceptive. He immediately smi
