Chapter 257

Author: Sienna Yates
"No need," Carter replied.

"But…"

"There's no 'but.' Just do as I said." Carter's voice was firm and final. "Sharon still has Theo to care for. She doesn't have time for these meaningless invitationals."

Simon let out a breathless sigh. To be chosen by the legendary Warner was the lifelong dream of every musician, after all.

Then Carter added, "Recommend Kelly to Warner."

Simon's eyelid twitched. "I've heard Warner has quite the temper. He's looking for Sharon specifically. If we recommend Kelly instead, he might not even consider it…"

Carter was silent for a few seconds. Then he said, "Set up a meeting with him. I'll talk to him myself."

Simon sighed again, this time silently, from somewhere deeper. "Understood."

On the other end, Carter hung up.

Nate, who had been waiting, didn't press the matter any further.

At Sharon's apartment, Wendy was laughing so hard she could barely breathe.

"Pfft—seriously? Kelly and that idiot Nate actually ate the medicine we made from foot

Carol frowned. "No way. One of my closest friends is holding her concert around that time. I already promised to be her guest performer."Her brother, Jim Fraser, was known for his domineering nature."If it's Melanie, just cancel. But if it's Ginny…" He paused, as if realizing this might be trickier than he thought."Go with Ginny's schedule as your priority. But their concerts might not even fall on the same day. Just consider it a gesture. Make an appearance at Carter's girlfriend's concert, play one piece, and leave. That's enough."Carol let out a snort. "Pass this on to Carter for me: stealing his ex-wife's guest performer just to please his mistress—using threats, no less—doesn't he find that disgusting?"Jim froze. "Ex-wife? Mistress?"She sneered, "Carter's ex-wife is one of my best friends. She gave up her career to be a stay-at-home wife for him. Who knew that ungrateful bastard had the audacity to cheat with a mistress. They're divorced now. She's finally rebuilding h

After Sharon and Ginny left, Kelly said softly, "Carter, Sharon refused… What should we do now?"Carter remained silent for a few seconds before replying, "Invite someone else."Kelly instinctively bit her lip. She was reluctant. "But…"Carter turned to look at her. "Unless you can persuade Ginny, or convince Sharon to give up, you don't have other choices."Sharon's dislike for Kelly had never been a secret. And Ginny wasn't someone ordinary—getting her to compromise was nearly impossible. As for Sharon…A dull ache tugged at Carter's lower abdomen. Her tolerance for him had already reached its limit. If he pushed her again, she just might go scorched earth. She was Theo's mother. He didn't want them to become mortal enemies.Kelly lowered her head. "Since she's Sharon's friend… let's forget it."…After leaving the restaurant, Sharon took Ginny on a stroll around Amstern City.Ginny had grown up in Marcentine, and although she'd visited Zachemaine before, she'd never real

Under normal circumstances, Sharon wouldn't make decisions on Ginny's behalf. But they had known each other for years and understood one another deeply. The fact that Ginny hadn't spoken meant she was leaving the decision to Sharon.Back when their quartet was first formed, Ginny had always been the most composed and empathetic among them. If Sharon asked, Ginny would likely agree to help Kelly out of respect for her.Ginny didn't want Sharon to offend Carter or Kelly over this, risking retaliation. Still, if Sharon genuinely disliked Kelly and refused to speak on her behalf, Ginny would never offer her help either. The choice was Sharon's to make.Sharon frowned, and she didn't bother being polite."Do you two just enjoy stealing from me? First you stole my mother's belongings, then my opportunity to meet Maestro Warner, and then my studio. And now, you want to steal my guest performer, too?"What's next? Kelly, do you fancy everything I touch? Are you so spiritually in sync wi

Even if Sharon were to present official identification under the name Jenna, Carter and Kelly could still easily dismiss it as fake.As the eldest daughter of the Blakely family, Ginny had publicly acknowledged Sharon's identity. Yet these two refused to believe her. They clung to their skepticism, grasping for any excuse to discredit Sharon. No wonder Sharon couldn't be bothered to explain herself.Kelly met Ginny's gaze head-on. "You said it yourself, you're friends with Sharon. It's not unreasonable to assume you're just trying to boost your friend's reputation, right?"Ginny, however, turned her eyes to Carter. "And you, Mr. Biggs? You don't believe me either?"Carter remained silent. His expression showed he shared the same doubt.Ginny knew there was no point arguing further. "If you don't believe me, then so be it."The rest of the meal passed in silence. The four of them ate quietly, barely exchanging a word. When they'd nearly finished, Sharon started to rise to take he

Ginny replied, "Sharon and I attended the same university.""University?" Carter's brows rose in astonishment. "You two… attended the same university?"Ginny already knew from Wendy that Sharon's ex-husband and his circle had always looked down on Sharon. They constantly mocked her supposed poor education at every turn. She raised a brow. "What's wrong? Is that a problem?"For some reason, Kelly seemed unusually unable to hold her composure today. She blurted out, "I heard Sharon only has a junior high education. How could she possibly have attended the same university as you? Ms. Blakely, could you be mistaken?"Ginny gave Kelly a puzzled glance. "Wouldn't I know whether Sharon and I attended the same university? Ms. Walt, what exactly do you think I'm mistaken about?"Kelly's voice caught in her throat. She couldn't reply.Carter asked, "Ms. Blakely, which university did you both attend?"Ginny's voice was calm and clear. "Since you invited me as a guest performer, I assumed

The way Ginny saw it, Kelly had no sense of decorum.Yet Ginny's smile didn't waver. Her tone remained gentle and polite."I'm sorry, but that's a personal matter. I don't owe you an explanation."Kelly froze for a beat.Ginny's demeanor remained gracious, but her words carried a quiet edge."And besides, Ms. Walt, making malicious assumptions about others is quite rude."A flicker of embarrassment crossed Kelly's face. The moment she saw Sharon, she had more or less guessed that Ginny would turn her down.Just then, Carter's voice broke the silence."Ms. Blakely, Kelly has a terminal illness. This may be her last concert. I hope, for the sake of your shared history as alumni, you'd consider doing her this favor."He paused briefly. His voice carried a rare, genuine sincerity."If you're willing to help, I'll owe you a personal favor. Or, if you have any conditions, you may name them."Ginny offered a faint, flawless smile."I do sympathize with Ms. Walt's situation. But I
