LOGINBONUS CHAPTER/EPILOGUE
ETHAN NINE YEARS LATER (AGE 18) “Mom, come get her away from my room. She won’t freaking leave!” I yell, lowering my headphones and shooting my five-year-old sister—Hannah—a glare. “E, come on, she just loves her brother,” Mom responds with a laugh. My door opens and she peeks inside. “Hi, baby!” Hannah ignores us completely, continuing to eat her Cheetos and smile at me. I shake my head. She smiles at literally any fucking thing. Such a little weirdo. “You know you love her,” Mom laughs. “By the way, Maliya is downstairs.” At the sound of her name, my entire body comes alive. Even though I try to hide it, a smile paints my lips. “Ahhh, there it is,” Mom teases. I get off the couch, not bothering to hide the smile anymore. I pick my phone off the cushions and check the screen. “Why didn’t she call or text?” I mutter to myself, dropping my headphones and turning off the PlayStation. “She looks so beautiful. Are you two heading somewhere?” Mom asks. I frown. “No?” I walk over to the bed and pick Hannah up. Her mouth and my duvet are stained orange from the Cheetos, and I make a mental note to change my sheets the second I get back. “Oh. Uh, okay. I’ll be going off to the company to check on a few things. I haven’t been there in a while. Dad took Jax out to get a haircut, so you’ll be home alone with Hannah. Is that okay by you? They’ll be back soon though, and the nanny should be here in an hour or two.” “No problem, mom. I’m good. Go run your company,” I tell her, just as Annie wraps her little arms around my neck. I reach the doorway where Mom is standing. She pulls me in, kissing my cheek. “Thank you, my love. I love you so much.” “Love you, too,” I respond, finally leaving the room and taking quick steps down the stairs to see Maliya. I stop at the foot of the stairs. Even though Mom warned me, my jaw still goes completely slack the moment I actually see her. Maliya has been my best friend for over seven years now, ever since she was seven. Her family moved to New York from Sunridge, and I practically begged Dad to get her into my school. She just turned fourteen, and she has never really dressed up before. Now, she has her back turned to me, wearing a shiny black dress and pumps. She even has a small bag slung over her shoulder, her dark hair cascading down her back in soft waves. “Maliya!” Hannah screams from my arms, making her turn around. A heavy frown settles on my face. Is that her cleavage showing? She counters my glare with a massive grin. “Annie!” She rushes over, taking my little sister off my hands. My teeth grind together as I watch them, completely unable to take my eyes off her. She even has makeup on. She’s fucking fourteen, and beautiful as hell. What the hell does she need makeup for? “Hey you!” She smacks my chest, a shy look crossing her face. “What’s up?” I ask flatly. She searches my eyes, immediately knowing something is wrong. Of course she notices. Suck it in, man, I tell myself. “I should be asking you… are you okay? What’s wrong?” She queries, her brows creased as she stares at me. “Nothing,” I say, forcing my voice to sound casual as I look her up and down. “Why are you dressed like that? Where are you going?” Maliya twists the strap of her bag, a small, excited smile playing on her lips. “I have a date, actually. With Tyler. You know him, right? He’s the new junior varsity winger on your hockey team.” My entire body goes rigid. Tyler? That sophomore benchwarmer? A hot rush of pure, unadulterated jealousy hits me so fast it makes my head spin. My hands fist at my sides. The thought of some guy from my team looking at her—looking at this dress—makes my blood boil. “A date?” I scoff, stepping off the last stair until I’m towering right over her. She nods impishly. “No. Absolutely not. You’re not going anywhere with him.” Maliya’s grin instantly fades, her eyes narrowing as she props Hannah on her hip. “Excuse me? Why not? He asked me out days ago, Ethan. He’s taking me to that new diner downtown.” “Because you’re fourteen, Maliya!” I snap, unable to help myself. “You’re way too young to be going out on dates. Especially with a high school guy who only has one thing on his mind.” “He’s fifteen! It’s literally a one year difference,” She argues, her cheeks flushing deeper, though this time it’s from anger. “And you don't get to tell me what to do. You’re my best friend, not my dad.” “I’m the captain of his team, which means I know exactly what kind of idiots I’m dealing with,” I growl, stepping even closer until she has to tilt her head up to look at me. “You’re staying right here.” She frowns. “No.” Fuck. I always forget how stubborn this girl can be. Hannah scrambles down from her arms and walks away, leaving us alone. I close the remaining space between us, trying to keep my temper in check. “Why do you even want to go on this date?” I ask her, trying to sound reasonable. She shrugs. “No reason. I just… I’ve never been on a date before.” “Can I take you?” I offer, my heart rate instantly speeding up. She shakes her head with a small laugh. “No. You’re like my brother, E. It doesn’t count.” I run a hand through my hair, exasperated. “I’m not your fucking brother.” She quickly places her palm over my mouth. “Oh my God, stop cussing.” She’s glaring at me, and I struggle to just stay still and not do something completely stupid. After a beat, she finally takes her hand off my lips. “Look, I’ll send you my location and text you every now and then,” She negotiates, looking at me pleadingly. “Also… can you cover for me? My brother doesn’t know exactly where I’m going. I lied to him, and he’s going to absolutely flip if he finds out.” I scoff, shooting her an incredulous look. “And I’m your safe space? You seriously thought I’d be cool with this?” She shrugs, smiling softly at me. “Well, you always let me do what I want…” “Not this. I’m sorry, Liya, but I’m not covering for you with your brother.” “E!” “Stay here with me, Liya. Come on,” I beg. And as the words leave my mouth, I know I'm not just begging her to stay for the afternoon. I’m begging her to hold on for a few more years, until she's old enough for me to tell her exactly how I’ve always felt about her. ALAN “Can’t believe I’m finally your wife,” Reina gushes. She wraps her arms around my neck, and I can’t help but grin down at her as I shut the hotel door behind us. “It feels like I’ve been waiting for this day all my life, baby,” I tell her. I pull her to my chest and kiss her. She melts into my arms completely. I can feel how much she wants this, and hell, if my own body isn’t on fire too. It’s been two whole months since she gave birth, but I’ve been so careful with her. I refused to have sex with her this whole time because I’m afraid of hurting her or something going wrong. No matter how many times she told me she was ready, I held back. I just used my fingers or ate her out until I was sure she saw stars, never giving her the real thing. But tonight is different. It’s our wedding night. Reina pulls me tightly against her, groaning about how heavy her wedding dress is between us. I laugh against her lips, pulling away just a fraction. She immediately chases my
REINA The moment she says it, the pain returns with brutal force, spreading through my abdomen and lower back until I feel like my entire body is being split apart from the inside out. I scream and curl forward instinctively, one hand gripping Al while the other clutches at the bedsheets. “Push, Reina.” “I’m pushing.” I say, but I don’t know if I really am. I don’t know anything but this pain. “More. Please push harder, please.” The doctor pleads, and Al adds, “Push Reina. Please.” His voice is firm this time, and somehow I find the strength to obey, bearing down with everything I have while Al wraps an arm around my shoulders and supports my weight. The effort leaves me breathless and shaking, and the second it’s over I collapse back against the pillows, convinced I have nothing left to give. “You can do this. You’re doing amazing. Push.” The doctor tells me. I shake my head, sobbing, “I’m trying, I’m trying! It’s like such a hard poop.” The nurses laugh quietly, and
REINA“You’re okay. You’re going to be okay.” Gramma tells me, caressing my stomach. I’m lying on my back in a hospital gown, on the large hospital bed in a private ward which is situated in the most expensive hospital in New York.I told Al this place is a little too much, but he didn’t pay any attention to my whims. He booked the stay anyways, claiming I need to be as comfortable as humanly possible while giving birth.“I’m really scared, Gramma.” I confess, tears gathering in my eyes. The contractions are a getting a bit too much to handle, and I squeeze my fists, taking deep breaths with my eyes drawn closed. She takes my hand in hers and un-fists it, her other hand massaging my waist.“I know, baby. I know… I can tell. That’s why I’m telling you, you’re going to be fine. I promise.” She says.I nod once, then open my eyes slowly and ask with a strained voice, “When are Al and Ethan going to be here?”Gramma straightens and picks up her phone, but the door opens before she can do
REINA Al helps me fix the button of my blush pink Zara dress, then leans in and presses kisses all over my neck. I melt into him immediately, shutting my eyes. “You’re such a beautiful pregnant woman.” He says while rubbing my stomach and my lips spread into a smile. “Thank you. I think I’m getting a little too fat though.” “You’re adding a little healthy weight. It doesn’t make you fat.” Al corrects, and just to shit with him, my eyes snap open and I ask, “Healthy weight, equals such a fat babe. I get it.” I say. His brow draws together for two seconds, then he clocks the joke and steps away, shaking his head. I can’t help laughing at his expression. He pulls me to him and grabs my throat gently, capturing my mouth in a passionate kiss. His tongue slips into my mouth, and his hand grips an ass cheek. I clutch his shirt and kiss him back with equal hunger, my panties dampening with every stroke of his tongue. He groans into the kiss when my hand lowers and grips his hard
ALAN I can’t stop looking at my wife. To-be. The extra two words tick me off, because I want her to be my wife right away, but she wants to wait until she’s given birth. And of course, it’s whatever my Reina says around here. She’s glowing with her pregnant belly, her arms flailing about as she gives directives to the decorators. Every minute, her hands go on her hips and she wipes off a sheen of sweat. It’s been roughly seventeen weeks since she came back into my life. This means she’s five months gone already, which is why we decided that it’s time for a gender reveal party. Well, she decided. Left to me, just the slip from the doctor would work just fine. We could have opened it together in private and called it a day. But women have a remarkable talent for turning simple things into events, and somehow my wife manages to convince everyone that finding out our baby’s gender requires decorations, catering, games, and enough balloons to make a small carnival. My backyard
REINA“I’m sorry I didn’t wake you for the party. I didn’t want to disturb your sleep.” I apologize to Ethan for the third time today. He still has that pout on his face, the same one he always denies having. I smile, coming to sit beside him on his bed.“Can you forgive me? Please?”He grunts, “Fo
REINAI’m standing behind the outdoor bar when Sylvia appears beside me.“You haven’t eaten anything since morning. Why don’t you just take a snack first?”“I’m fine.”“Are you sure? You look pale, my dear.”I sigh, glancing up at her. She lifts her hand and sends some hair behind my ear. “Am I pes
REINA“I’ll have to go in now, Sylvia.” I say when I get back in the kitchen. She smiles kindly and my heart squeezes, imagining Thelma in her place, giving me a hundred and one reasons why I can’t leave her alone here.“No problem. You should rest. It’s going to be a big night, slash day.” “Yeah.
ALANI frown. “You don’t need my approval for anything. Buy whatever you want for the house, Reina.”She gets me to my feet and pulls my arm over her shoulders. I can walk perfectly fine. My hands are injured, not my legs. But I keep that information to myself. In fact, for effect, I lean a little
