6. Forget about it.

Jason's POV

I can't believe it. This bitch fooled me. Not just me, the whole team. This is such an embarrassment, what am I going to tell Scotty?

'Hey man, what's up? Yeah you know that girl who kidnapped Chad? Well she set us up and now Charles doesn't remember a thing and somehow I'm being blamed for her actions.'

Yeah, like he would believe that. This is so embarrassing. We got played by a girl. Who gets played by a girl? All I know is that Scotty will never believe me. Ry and Chris might convince him, but I doubt he will want to listen.

What a mess. My life is a complete mess. At least my mom is safe. I regret going to the park that one day... the day I got myself into this. The day I destroyed any possibility of success for me.

I know I've done bad things, it's hard to forget those faces. How they pleaded for mercy, how they cried and cried, how they would do anything to be free. Once they were dead, I always tried to imagine what they were like. Did they have kids? Were they married? Did they like spaghetti? All these questions just continued to pop up everytime, and I hated myself for it.

"Daisy?" Jenna asks from behind the counter.

What's the deal with this Mandy anyways? If the state is desperate enough to clean up my record, then this must be a big deal. Why else would anyone want a murderer loose in the streets?

"Daisy?" she calls again.

Now I'm too late, there is no way anyone will accept me. I will be thirty in five years, that is if I'm still here. What am I talking about? Of course I'll be here.

I'm disrupted from my thoughts when Jenna wacks my head with a plastic cup. "What the-" I stare at her in disbelief, while she places her finger on her lips, telling me to be quiet. She then nods and points behind me.

“What?” I turn around and see the back of a girl in her twenties, probably. Her curly hair is covering her face and she stares at her book. She doesn't seem to be reading or moving at all.

"Daisy?" Jenna says once again. I look back at Jenna who is pointing at the girl.

“Oh. You want me to go get her…”

“No shit,” She responds dramatically.

I get up from the stool and make my way toward her. Just as I'm about to reach her, she quickly turns around and crashes into me. I stand firm, but she loses her balance and begins to fall. I quickly grab her arm to try and stop her, but instead, I slip and fall too.

Thump. Clash. Bang.

That doesn't sound good.

I lay on the floor and groan in pain. The floor hurts, it's so boney and... Hard. They seriously need to change this floor into something softer. Maybe memory foam?

"Get off of me!" The girl practically yells. I quickly roll off of her. So that's what I felt... I slowly get up and start to rub my head.

"Sorry." is the first thing that comes out of my mouth. I give her a hand which she gladly takes.

"It's okay," she mumbles as she dusts herself off. She looks like a college student, maybe she lives around here. I try to catch a glimpse of her eyes, but fail. She's got a nice body, maybe I can get her in my bed by the end of the day. Yes, a college student! I need one on my list. Chad and Ry are gonna be pumped.

"I really am sorry." I then use my cute worried look, "Are you okay?" I pretend to look at the back of her arm but then stare at her ass.

She jerks her hand away and pushes me away, "I'm fine." she rolls her eyes.

"That you are," I whispered seductively in her ear. What she did next surprised me. Like I was not expecting it at all.

She laughs.

I immediately start to feel embarrassed and insecure as she laughs. I don't know why, I just am. She shakes her head at me and walks past me to get her coffee. I quickly smell my breath, fix my hair and then walk after her.

"So when will I see you again?"

"Get out of my face."

"Woah, feisty," I lick my lips, "I like it."

"Shut up and go away," She rolls her eyes at me and walks back to her seat.

Ring. Ring.

"Hello?" I answer the phone call without taking my eyes off of her.

"Jason, you'll never guess what happened!" Ryland practically yells.

"What?"

"It's Chad. He's back."

Hearing those words brings me back to reality. This can't be real. "Really!? When? Where?"

"We got an anonymous letter, it told us where to go. I went with Chris and we found him."

"How is he?"

"He was knocked out. When we found him he was beaten up pretty bad."

"Is he up?"

"Not yet, but we think he will have some information for us."

"Alright, I'll be there in a bit."

"Jason?"

"What?"

"We also know where Charles is."

"Do you have him? If not I'll go get him."

"He's in the hospital."

I blink a few times before finally being able to open my mouth. "What!?"

"Some people heard gunshots and called the police. When Scott got there, Charles was shot in the legs and he was unconscious."

"Do we know who did it?"

"They don't know, but we think it's the same person who had Chad."

"Why do you think that?"

"Well, you know that mysterious girl was with both of them? No one has found her or they don't know she exists. She's still out there."

"Damn this girl is good."

"She left a note too."

"What does it say?"

"It just says, 'Forget about it'"

"Forget about it?"

"Yup."

"What does it mean?"

"We don't know man. But I'll send you a pic." He informs me, fears clear in his voice. Not fear of this person but of what might happen to our friend.

"Alright. See ya later." I hang up and put my phone in my pocket. I look over at Jenna and see that she has cleaned up the mess we made and is back behind the counter.

I look over where the college girl is sitting with her coffee, and reading her book. She must be a bookworm to have her nose that close to the book. But as I said, she looks mighty fine.

"So," I slide into the booth across from her, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

She stops reading and sighs. "Nope."

"Really?" I ask, shocked, "A pretty little bookworm like you must have plenty of guys lining up to see you."

She laughs and shakes her head.

That laugh. It’s so warming and secure, and weirdly familiar.

"You have a cute laugh." I blurt out. I feel my cheeks turn warm as she finally looks at me. Her chocolate brown eyes meet mine.

She smiles, but doesn't reply to my comment. Instead, she asks, "So why is a bad boy like yourself interested in a ‘bookworm’ like myself?"

I smirk and lean forward, "A 'Bad boy' like me?" I question.

"Yeah. I mean, it's pretty obvious. With the black jeans and black leather jacket and everything." she nods and takes a sip of her drink.

"Well, I don't consider myself a Bad boy...." I defend.

"Yeah?" she grins, "Then what do you consider yourself?"

"Well, I'm many things." I begin with a dramatic voice.

She giggles at my performance. Her smile is so beautiful. I'm suddenly mesmerized by her smile. Those perfectly shaped lips... Her dimples make her even prettier. Whoever this chick is, she's definitely special.

There is no way I'm letting her walk away tonight.
