The sounds of clicking plates and quiet conversation had faded. Only the soft sound of rain tapping on the windows could be heard. Ethan placed his napkin beside his empty plate and gave a polite smile.

"Thank you so much for the meal, Mr. And Mrs. Ray. I mean...Mom and Dad." Ethan said.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray smiled. "It's alright, dear. We're more pleased to have you over."

Ethan nodded. "I think I should get going now."

"Oh no, dear—it's far too late for that." Mrs. Carol said. "And I think it's about to rain. It wouldn't be safe for you to drive tonight."

Ethan opened his mouth to gently decline, but Lily spoke up quickly. "Mom's right. Just stay over. We've got more than enough room."

Her father nodded, folding his hands calmly. "You'd be doing us a favor, Ethan. No need to rush back. If you're worried about your parents, I'll give them a call."

Ethan hesitated, then shook his head lightly. "No need for that, Sir. I'll take care of it."
